Yoshi's Island 2 is an active stage on Super Smash Stadium. It debuted slightly after the beginning of Season 10, and is the 50th stage to debut overall.
This is one of a handful of stages to spend an extended time on hiatus. It disappeared on May 14, 2009 and came back four years later, on June 20, 2013.
Stage overview[]
Whereas Yoshi's Island 1 was based on the Yoshi series, this stage is based on Super Mario World 1 (despite this, it's Baby Mario's home stage somehow...). Unlike the canon Smash Bros. games, this stage is properly indicated as a Mario universe stage instead of a Yoshi universe one.
It's a somewhat cramped stage with a hole in the middle blocked by Rotating Blocks. Two extra platforms also made of Rotating Blocks also sit above the main one. On the left side of the stage is a diagonally-pointing pipe, while a hill sits on the right side. The hill creates a walk-off right kill zone. Hit the Rotating Blocks to make them...well, ROTATE...for 10 seconds. While rotating, they are completely pass-through. When not rotating, they're solid from all sides.
A Fishing Lakitu and a Banzai Bill can be seen in the background.
Changes[]
The last major change to this stage happened when it returned from hiatus. Then, it was given a graphical facelift that made it look like a level from Super Mario 3D World. The background Lakitu and Bullet Bill were similarly changed.
- Until November 26, 1986, the stage's layout was slightly different: the hole was larger and covered by Note Blocks, there were three Rotating Block platforms (with two on the left, stacked on top of each other, and the right one being five blocks wide), and an extra, vertical set of Rotating Blocks next to the Note Blocks. There was also a Wiggler in the bushes. This all changed on January 7, 1987.
- The stage was originally much smaller. It's been widened three times over its lifetime: February 3, 1989, September 23, 2008, and October 22, 2019.
In its own universe[]
This stage is based off of the level Yoshi's Island 1, from Super Mario World 1.
Occasionally, the forest background from the actual Yoshi's Island 2 level in the same game will appear as an alternate skin.
