"We exist to prevent the Circle of Shadows from achieving their prophetic "Hour of Reckoning" that they prophecize about."
—Xanvor, Zalvar Online
Xanvor, better known as Grand Exarch Xanvor, is the leader of the Vanguard of Spirits and one of the last surviving zalvosh in the galaxy.
Appearance[]
Xanvor is a zalvosh: a species that resembles a penguin. He had blue feathers in his youth, but they are now a mix of gold and grey, an aftereffect of his magically-granted immortality. His beak is relatively long, and a scar exists across it, likely from a major battle.
Xanvor usually wears a suit of gold and blue armor, with ornate patterns on it. He also wields a sword of sorts that helps him channel magical energies.
Personality[]
Xanvor is a man tormented by regret and pain. He had to leave his people behind as the krexxon conquered their empire, and has fought in countless battles throughout the galaxy. He's seen lots of bloodshed and just wishes to bring it to an end. Yet, he occasionally finds times of peace and hope for himself, where he can relax and hope for the best.
Xanvor treats his troops with respect, believing that they will all play a role in the impending battles the Vanguard of Spirits will face. He also possesses an immense hatred for shadow magic, and seeks to destroy it at all costs.
In battle, Xanvor utilizes powerful magical abilities to annihilate his foes, along with his sword when necessary.
History[]
Before the Vanguard[]
From a young age, Xanvor took an interest in science and research, eventually becoming one of the zalvosh empire's top scientists. He would conduct tests on the planet Keranor to see if life energy could be used to power machinery. One test in particular managed to wipe out almost all life on Keranor, rendering it a desert wasteland devoid of almost all life. He'd later shift his focus to studying a strange force of energy present on multiple planets.
Said force was actually magic, and Xanvor was intrigued. He'd never seen anything like it before, and would try to collect samples of spell energy. It was incredibly volatile in his lab however, and was difficult to study. Yet, when the krexxon began their invasion of zalvosh territory, Xanvor and his allies went on the run. They weren't fighters and didn't want to show the krexxon their findings.
Founding the Vanguard of Spirits[]
Eventually, Xanvor and his allies discovered the planet Kalnar, home of the first magical spirits. They were blessed with immortality, and informed of the Nullifier and the Circle of Shadows. Seeing them as greater threats than the krexxon, Xanvor and his allies joined the magical spirits, and began to set the framework for what would later become the Vanguard of Spirits.
Over the years, many individuals joined the Vanguard, and many battles were won and lost. It was a tenuous struggle against a powerful foe, but the Vanguard survived. Xanvor himself led many of these battles, but would eventually take more of a commanding role after sustaining serious injuries. During this time, he'd begin to study magic and learn how to commune with Kalnar's magical spirits.
Taikari[]
When Taikari and her allies managed to find the Vanguard of Spirits, Xanvor was intrigued. He saw potential in them, and made them generals within the Vanguard. Yet, he saw something in Taikari. She fit the bill perfectly for an ancient prophecy spoken of on Kalnar, and he believed that she would go on to do great things. From this point, Xanvor would push for his new generals to try and form an alliance with the krexxon while he worked to continue the war against the Circle of Shadows.
Trivia[]
- Xanvor, despite being a grizzled war veteran, is known for his sense of humor.
