Wario is a playable character on Super Smash Stadium. He debuted in Season 21, alongside Mario Circuit 1.
Much like in the canon Smash Bros. games, his series is almost completely represented by the WarioWare games, with very few references to Wario Land.
In his own universe[]
He debuted in Super Mario Land 2 as the main villain, having taken over Mario's castle. All that is known about his motives for doing so was that Super Mario Land 1 was apparently a distraction for Mario, and that the two had a rivalry going back to childhood. Wario likely turned to evil because he was jealous of Mario.
After Mario kicked him out, Wario began to strike out on his own. Super Mario Land 3 was given the subtitle of "Wario Land", which eventually became its own series. In the Wario Land games, Wario is given his current portrayal as someone who isn't really "evil", but is incredibly greedy.
Eventually, Wario began to shift away from crime and towards legitimate business, founding WarioWare Inc. in Diamond City.
Mario and Wario have not generally seen each other since outside of sports titles. A notable exception was Super Mario 64 DS, where the two worked together alongside Yoshi and Luigi to save Peach, instead of Mario doing it by himself like in the original game.
Attributes[]
Despite being classed as a heavyweight, he's actually somewhat fast and has good air mobility. This is partially due to the "choppy" animation he has for running. His air moves come out fast and can rack up the damage, and he can live to some high percentages thanks to a combination of this good air mobility and his bike.
His finishers are powerful: many of his Smashes kill at 70%, and his Wario Waft can kill even lower. However, Wario's killing options are very limited, and since he is limited to having just one Wario Bike on-stage, should the bike be broken or in a bad spot where he can't get to it, he's at a huge disadvantage. Wario Waft's mechanics can sometimes bite him as well.
Changes[]
- Season 36: Got a power boost, most notable in his Smashes, but they now come out slower. Was now able to actually grab onto ledges with Corkscrew. Air speed was reduced. He can now immediately get back on the bike should he jump off of it.
- Season 39: Running and air speeds were boosted. Bike went back to having a 5-second wait before he could get on it again. Forward throw was nerfed.
Moveset[]
Entrance: If Biker Wario, he crashes in on his bike, which explodes shortly after he gets off of it. As Classic Wario, he enters from a pipe like all other Mario characters.
Move Name | Description |
---|---|
Neutral Special:
Chomp |
Wario bites his opponent. Functions as an alternate grab and throw, and can hit through shields as a result. Since Season 47, each bite heals him slightly. He can also use this move to eat items and projectiles, healing him by 2% a pop (unless it's a healing item, which heals him by the usual percentage). Eating a status item, such as a Mushroom, in this way causes Wario to gain the effect it would have had on him had he picked it up, but eating a bomb causes him to explode, doing 10%.
Kills at 250%. |
Side Special:
Wario Bike |
Wario hops on his bike and can ride all over the stage, running over anyone in his path. Jump to get off of it. After five seconds, you can get back on it again if you do a side special near the bike. However, while it's on the ground, others can destroy it; if it takes enough damage, it will explode, leaving behind just the wheels, which can further be picked up and thrown for damage. Only one bike can be on the stage at a time; an existing bike must be completely destroyed before Wario can ride a new one.
Kills at 200%. |
Up Special:
Corkscrew |
Wario jumps into the air with a corkscrewing motion, hitting anyone who gets in his way. Can be steered left or right.
Kills at 150%. |
Down Special:
Wario Waft |
Fart on opponents. The longer this move goes without being used, the more powerful it gets. Wario flashes when he is at full charge. The charge persists through kills.
Kills at 50% when fully charged. |
Final Smash:
Wario Man |
Wario transforms into a "superhero" for 15 seconds, buffing his moves significantly but rendering his bike a liability as it can go out of control. (He can outrun the cars on Big Blue!)
Ashley Variant: As with most transformation Final Smashes, she shouts "MOON...PRISM...POWER!!!" while transforming. |
Taunts[]
- Up Taunt: Laughs, unhinges his jaw, and forces his mouth shut with his hands.
- Side Taunt: Shakes his ass.
- Down Taunt: Goes "Wah, wah, WAH!" while flashing W-signs.
Victory[]
- Pose: Does a donut on his bike, then says "Yes!" while flashing a W-sign.
- Theme: A remix of Stonecarving City's theme.
- Before Season 31: Team Mario's victory theme.
- "No Contest"/Loss Theme: The death theme from Super Mario Land 3.
- Before Season 31: Team Mario's loss theme.
