Vermin (originally known as The Exterminator in North America) is a Game and Watch game in the Silver series released on July 10, 1980. This game is about killing moles with hammers.

Gameplay[]

In Vermin, your goal is to get rid of moles by whacking them with a set of two hammers. There are two buttons that move the character left to right- to get rid of a mole, your hammers must reach them, not the character. You score one point for each mole you hit, with the maximum score being 999 points. If a mole stays on the surface for too long you miss and lose a life- if you get three misses, the game ends. Game A features four different positions the moles come from, while Game B features five different positions.

Legacy[]

Vermin is referenced in Mr. Game & Watch's moveset in the Super Smash Bros. series as both his down smash and floor attack. Mr. Game and Watch swings two hammer downwards on both sides and has a fast start-up with lightning quick interruptibility with low cooldown. It's disjointed but can bury opponents can combo into another smash attack. The sourspot on the move can send opponents down at a semi-spike angle and kills at 120%. It's one of the strongest down smashes in the game and is one of Mr. Game & Watch's more reliable moves for KOing opponents.

Remakes and Rereleases[]

Vermin has been remade for the Game Boy Gallery and Game & Watch Gallery for Game Boy. It was also remade for the Game & Watch Gallery 2 on Game Boy Color. It also appears as a microgame in WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$ where Wario has to wack a mole with a hammer. It was later recreated for DSiWare, releasing on July 15th, 2009 in Japan, April 5th, 2010 in the United States, and April 9th, 2010 in Europe. It would later be ported to the Nintendo 3DS on July 7th, 2011 for Europe.

Fanon Appearances[]

Nintendo & Fantendo Play: Dodgeball![]

Vermin appears in Nintendo & Fantendo Play: Dodgeball! as a collectible that can be obtained randomly from the Gachaball machine or in Dodgeball Dungeons. It's gameplay is identical to the original game.

Super Smash Bros. Charged[]

Vermin is once again represented in Mr. Game & Watch's moveset in Super Smash Bros. Charged, being his down smash.

Vermin is also represented as a Trophy and Spirit in the game. It is an Advanced-type Spirit that boosts the damage and knockback of attacks using weapons by 20% when equipped. The Spirit battle is Mr. Game & Watch who starts with a Hammer, with other Hammers continually spawning on the stage.

Vermin
No music, one screen, only a handful of sprites, and the age of 3D gaming was nothing more than a twinkle in someone's eye. Nonetheless, Vermin was a pretty fun game for it's time! There's two buttons that move you left and right, and two other buttons that slam either of your hammers downward. The goal was to whack moles on the head and send them back down into their holes. Mr. Game & Watch uses these hammers for his down smash. The move has a hitbox that can bury opponents as well!
