Fantendo - Game Ideas & More

Hey, our Wikia CSS skin is good but it's also sorta bad in places! Things can be difficult to read due to a general lack of whitespace, and aspects like the rail section backgrounds are not easily recolorable. Plus, in my opinion, the skin is really starting to show its age.

With the Nintendo Switch around the corner, I figure it's time for Fantendo to go modern as well, with bolder and more vibrant design. In the process of revamping the CSS, I have three goals in mind:

  • Make Fantendo look cleaner. Our current CSS is built update-upon-update for years, making the customizations to our skin look very old and confusing, both when reading the stylesheet and when looking at a page. Working on a whole skin across a shorter timespan should correct these issues. I also want to achieve greater brand identity through the consistent use of accent colors.
  • Keep the core meaning of Fantendo intact. And by "the core meaning of Fantendo", I don't mean something stupidly philosophical. We make fangames, don't we? That's what I'm talking about. Following this redesign, your content should look about the same. The main updates will be to stylism and to the bells and whistles surrounding articles. Plus, most of our extraneous sitewide customizations will remain intact.
  • Make customization easy. It's so hard to make custom skins due to all of the things that have to be changed, even just to change the main color. With the advent of CSS variables, I hope to bring customization down to a rudimentary level. For instance, want to make Fantendo yellow? Set a variable and clear your cache!

Overall, this will be a difficult, daunting task, but I'm willing to take it on. You can see my progress on the skin at w:c:fantendoneue.
