it's june, and you know what that means! last year we had a blog to celebrate this but it kinda went downhill which is pretty telling about general perception of the lgbt community. there's a high amount of lgbt users on this site, myself included, and i hope this month can be a time we can feel welcome and accepted!

we've come a long ways just in my lifetime in regards to lgbt rights. until 2003 it was illegal for two people of the same sex to have sexual relations in many states of the U.S., including where i live. it's 2018 now and it's legal for same sex couples to get married nationwide in the U.S. while more and more nations across the world are advancing in lgbt rights-- albeit slowly for some.

that said, we still have a long way to go. our society still isn't legitimately receptive to the idea of lgbt people in general, and for many people they fear telling their parents or friends that they're lgbt in case they might react negatively, or even violently. i truly hope that we're in the early stages of making a society that can see past the nonsense that is sexual orientation.

to all lgbt people, i hope you feel welcome here at fantendo and i especially hope you can feel comfortable with yourself out in the real world!
