Five Nights at Freddy's: Always Open is the fourth Five Nights at Freddy's game (both chronologically and actually) in the series. It takes place 10 years after Five Nights at Freddy's 3.

History

XX-XX-20XX: A picture was released on Scott Cawthon's main website. It shows a Freddy with pink cheeks and a nice smile staring at the camera. Beside him is a pile of toys next to Toy Freddy, who is partially broken, having his microphone sticking out of his ear, black eyes, and what appears to be yellow paint covering part of his face. Barely able to be seen, in the far back, is another Freddy in a display case. This one is far more broken down than the others, but the only broken part seen is a missing ear and burnt face. Above the picture is the words "3 times the Freddy, are you ready?" The picture, when brightened up, shows the words "Always Open" beside the display case. The website's code was changed to say "10 years later...."

XX-XX-20XX: Another picture was released on Scott's website. This one showed Pirate Cove from the first game. The curtains are parted, showing complete darkness. The sign now says "He's back!" Brightening the image showed a faint pirate ship in the far back. The website's code now says "22 of us...."

XX-XX-20XX: A trailer was released. The trailer had a new hallway with pictures of happy animatronics (drawn by kids). Text says "He thought he could destroy us." It shows gameplay, showing 14 cameras. The scene shows happier versions of the 3 main animatronics on the show stage. Text then says "He thought we were gone." It shows the player glancing through multiple rooms, including a parking lot, a dark hallway, a ship area (Foxy is seen), and a dining room. Text finally says "We will always be in the hearts of children." Multiple gameplay footage is shown. Player is revealed to be able to hide under his/her desk, and send an unknown person to patrol the rooms. 14 animatronics are seen, including the 4 regulars (brighter and fixed up, dubbed "new" by fans), the toys (besides BB and The Puppet. All toys are broken, beides Mangle), and damaged animatronics. (Noted to look similar to the ones of the first game) 2 New animatronics are shown for one scene each, a smiling yellow animatronic (seen in a big hallway, staring at camera) and an endoskeleton (shown in a smaller hallway). Trailer ends with a wrecked up Toy Bonnie appearing in the players' office and whacking him/her with his guitar.

XX-XX-20XX: The game releases. A final pic appears on Scott's website showing a teenage girl. Text next to her says "Ever wonder why they don't like teens?" Brightening the image shows that she appears to be mechanical, with pieces of her suit missing.

Gameplay

The gameplay is a lot more reminiscent of Five Nights at Freddy's 1 than 3, featuring an office with 2 doorways on either side and a vent in front. In order to survive, you have a flashlight, a radio, and a desk. Flashlight: Allows you to brighten up the vent and the doorways to see if an animatronic is inside. It can be upgraded through the use of Smiley, a friendly animatronic who upgrades your flashlight. This upgraded version allows you to see into the hallways and the vent cameras, making it more useful. The upgraded flashlight is the only thing that can keep Katie out. Radio: This allows you to direct the Security Guard to go to a room. The Security Guard spawns in your office, and can move to most rooms. (He cannot go into the Kitchen or the Vent.) He can be used to lead some animatronics away from you and into another room. If he's in the office, he also functions as an extra life, guiding an animatronic that's in a doorway away from you. Desk: Certain animatronics can be fooled by hiding under your desk if it's about to enter the Office. They will leave if they can't see you. However, know that this doesn't work for every animatronic. You also have cameras that you can use to see if an animatronic is coming towards you. If an animatronic reaches you, it's game over.

Rooms

There are 14 cameras in the game. (Office not listed.)

Night 3 and beyond: Inactive unless the player watches him too much/too little or a few animatronics pass him. Looks at the camera, then starts getting to his feet, then dashes to the office from the west. If flashlight is used on him, bangs on the wall, disabling the flashlight for 20 seconds, then leaves.

Starts in Animatronic Storage. Can attack from anywhere but the vent. Wanders. If an animatronic reaches him, follows said animatronic. Same for Security. If an animatronic he's following attempts to attack, he finds another entrance to corner the player. These fakes have a slight white hue. Aggressive. Cameras do not show it moving, but don't deactivate. Teleports in, then fires his laser gun at the player. Desk. Night 5
Tazz A tasmanian devil animatronic from "Kangaroo Joe's Australian Diner". He has black fur, sharp teeth and claws, as well as red eyes. Starts in the Basement. Attacks from the vent. Fast, so he's hard to see on camera. Aggressive. Cameras show him moving. Runs around the room, looks at the player, then charges forward. Security. Night 5
The Puppet The most broken animatronic in the game. A very broken version of The Puppet. A lot of his suit is teared, revealing endoskeleton, he has only one string attached to his back, leaving him slouched, one of his hands are missing, and his mask is cracked in a way to form a frown. He also holds a broken music box when he moves. Starts in the Animatronic Storage. Attacks from anywhere. Wanders. Least aggressive animatronic at first. Will attack security, causing them to flee. If he is close to the Office, hide so he doesn't notice you. Doesn't appear in blindspots. If he sees security 3 times, he will know where you are, and becomes unstoppable. Music box plays as he moves. Cameras flicker when he moves. Falls from the ceiling in front of the player. Lays there for a few seconds, then suddenly jumps at the player. Desk, none if he notices you. Do not let him see security. Night 5
Golden Freddy Brand new-looking. A golden version of Freddy, without any eyes. Bulky in appearance, slightly fat, and tall. Notably, there appears to be no endoskeleton in it.

Randomly appears in the Office. It can appear in 2 different positions: 1. It's face can appear if you light up a doorway. If it does, he will jumpscare you soon after unless you hide. 2. It pulls down the camera and stands in front of you. Hide the moment you see him, or he jumpscares you.

Suddenly, the screen goes black, then it appears, screaming. Desk. Night 6
Springtrap More broken then in the third game. One ear is missing, along with a few teeth. A lot of suit is missing, revealing more of the Purple Man. Springtrap completely charred black. Starts in the Parking Lot, behind the fence. Can attack from anywhere, but prefers the vent.. Extremely aggressive. Will attack security, causing them to flee. Doesn't appear in blindspots. Tends to hide in hard-to-see positions on cameras. Cameras flicker when he moves. Stands up, screaming. Security, needs to make noise in another room. Night 6

Nights

Unlike the other games, Nights have scripted sequences as well as random ones, to keep you on your toes.

Night 1:

Phone Call: Hello? Hey, uhh... welcome to your new job. So, before I say what I want to say, I have to say some little things... company policy, you know.... Uhh... "welcome to Freddy Fazbear's Pizza, a magical place for kids and parents a like. After many years of being out of business, we have finally opened up again, safer than ever. With 3 brand new attractions, we hope it was worth the wait. Fazbear Entertainment is not responsible for death and/or dismemberment caused by faulty wiring and/or animatronics." Blah blah blah. Yeah, cheesy if you ask me. I've actually been a fan of Freddy Fazbear's Pizza since I was a kid. *sigh* Memories.... Oh yeah! Umm... the last Night Guard complained of the animatronics moving. Now, this is a feature that is supposed to happen, just not at night. Now, due to being a big fan, I searched up a bit of history about this place. The truth will shock you. The animatronics have been known to kill people at night by stuffing them into one of their suits. Now, the pizzaria keeps saying it's a miss understanding, that they think you're an endoskeleton. But I think there is some foul play. So I'm doing a scan of the animatronics, to see if there's something wrong with them. I'll be done tomorrow, but for now, you have Eddie, a security guard. You can radio him to a room in order to distract an animatronic. I taught him how to lure animals away, so I hope this works with them. Or, if an animatronic gets to close, hide under your desk. They might not notice you. Alright good night and good luck.

Scripted Sequence: Bonnie and Chica activate just before the phone call is done. The Animatronic Storage has a broken box with springs, strings hanging from the roof, a hand, and a shattered mask.

Strategy: This night is extremely easy, made to get you used to the controls. Just send security to the Animatronic Storage to prevent Toy Bonnie from attacking, then hide under the desk. This will gurantee success.

Night 2:

Phone Call: Hello? See? Told ya you'd make it! So... I've tested the animatronics, and they seem to have a virus of some sort. I don't know how they got it, but they did, so... be careful. I've been testing a spare endoskeleton that was infected, see if I can help in anyway. I called the problem a virus since I scanned some other animatronics, and... they got it as well. Now, I reviewed the video footage, and they didn't move, so... be careful. You got more to deal with. Now, just to let you know, the Toy animatronics, they're the ones in Kid's Centre, are... immune to hiding. I think it's because, during the place they were in, to stop them from attacking, the night guard used a... Freddy Mask. So, they seem to have put that into their memory, probably said to themselves, NO! Heh. Also, in the storage, we have 2 scrapped animatronics, Smiley, the yellow one, can help you if he gets in your office, upgrading your light. I don't know how he does it, but that causes him to make a lot of noise, so he might attract... unwanted attention. We wanted to make him a new addition, but he was... a bit too friendly. 6417, that endoskeleton we never found a suit for, is neutral. When someone does something he finds interesting, he will try to defend that person/animatronic. Try to get him to you before... I'll just let you continue the night without me. Good night.

Scripted Sequences: Old Foxy activates by breaking his case at 2:30, along with a hallucination. At 4:30, Toy Chica attacks, then Toy Freddy. The box in the Animatronic Storage disappears.

Strategy: This night starts testing you. Please note that this night is a lot harder than the other games' Night 2. Get 6417 to your office ASAP. Then have one of them stay in the Animatronic Storage and one of them in the Main Hall. Then hide until 4:00. Then, make sure no one's at the doors. If so hide. If not, send one guard to deal with Toy Chica, and one to deal with Toy Freddy. Make sure the one guarding the Animatronic Storage gets back in time to stop Toy Bonnie if he tries to get in.

Night 3:

Phone Call: Hello? Uh... sorry for not warning you about Old Foxy. I... actually didn't know he had the virus. They told me those old ones were deactivated.... Now, quickly before I tell you about the new animatronics, you've seen the Toy animatronics, right? Well, a couple nights before you applied, some teenagers came and vandalized them! Some people! We caught them, but they said there were 3 of them, but we only... caught 2. They kept saying... "they took her".... Strange how they didn't vandalize Mangle- Toy Foxy, sorry. That was their old name for him. The kids used to break him apart, causing him to become... well... mangled. Now, kids stay away from him.... I scanned him, he has the virus. Be careful, he used to have a history of, and I quote, "climbing on the walls." *Pause* ... Those Old animatronics were from an old site. We kept them for sentimental reasons. Poor things, they went through a fire 10 years ago. Apparently, they were the most aggresive ones.... They're old, so they might make a lot of noise, so that'll help. Old Foxy seems to keep to his old path, but, due to a... incident involving 6417, he's afraid of lights. If he runs, shine a light at him. Last up, BB. He's the one at the shop. The programmers added a hidden function to the animatronics, BB will upgrade them if they walk to him. ... Hopefully you'll survive. Good luck.

Scripted Sequences: Katie starts stirring. BB activates at 1:00. The strings in the Animatronic Storage disappear.

Strategy: This night is challenging for beginners. Use the Night 2 strategy, but modify it. Make sure Smiley doesn't get in. If an animatronic looks like he/she is about to enter the Gift Shop, send security to stop him/her. Get 6417 to the office as quickly as possible. Check Old Foxy semi-regularly (about twice an hour). Try to get security to stay away from Old animatronics.

Night 4:

Phone Call: Hello? Hey, fourth night, congrats. I... actually thought you wouldn't survive this long. You're amazing at this! Now, Old Freddy has the virus. He was always... unpredictable. He likes hiding in the dark, so I upgraded your cameras! There is now a button you can use to light up the room you're looking at. I even wired it to resemble your flashlight, so Smiley can upgrade it as well! Now, I've been hearing rumors of... other animatronics around the restaurant here... twitching and glitching.... I believe the virus is somehow spreading to them as well! So, I'm trying to find the person who started the virus by tracing it. Simple stuff, so I'll be done tomorrow. Hey, uh, you didn't happen to see an animatronic that looks like a girl in the Animatronic Storage? Yeah, here's the thing... the company... didn't build her! I have no idea where she came from, but she's got the virus. Listen, she seems to be poorly built, so her eyes can't take strong light. If she moves... quickly get Smiley to upgrade your light. Good luck... you'll need it.

Scripted Sequences: Smiley moves at 12:30, Katie moves at 1:00. Old Freddy, Toy Freddy, and Freddy attack at 5:00. The hand in the Animatronic Storage disappears.

Strategy: This night is where the game starts pulling out all the stops. Use a modified Night 3 strategy. Get 6417 to the office as soon as they activate. Don't let Smiley in unless Katie comes, but keep him around the office. Check Old Foxy three times an hour. At 4:30, get security to go to the West Hall. Then hide under your desk at 5:00.

Night 5:

(Please note that during this Night's phone call, no animatronics move. The time doesn't tick down either) Phone Call: Hello? Congrats, you made it to the end of the week! So... thing is, if you've seen the news, you'll know that all over the district... animatronics have contracted the virus. Now... they're coming for you. I saw one when I was leaving work. It broke out of a restaurant and stumbled over to Freddy's. As you know, there's no way for them to get in conventionally, but.... I've added a hidden feature to your camera to stop them. You know that camera location you could never access? I activated it. See, it's a basement that employees can use as a... "safe house" if anything goes wrong. Now, the other restaurants are connected to it as well, just in case. These smart animatronics are using the basement to get to you! Use that camera to check for them. Also, I've finally found the computer the virus was used on! I'm monitoring it right now. It's currently... a- WAIT! Fre-? *Starts sounding scared* Uh... could you... check th-th-the Animatttttronicc Storage f-for... me. Please?

(f you check it, all is quiet. Then the Puppet falls from the ceiling, grabs the mask, puts it on, and jumps at the camera. The power goes out for 10 seconds)

Part 2 of Phone Call: You there? Thank god! Listen, th-that thing was from an old Freddy Pizzaria. It was scrapped after all the animatronics acted odd... except HIM. Hide when you notice it coming close. DO NOT LET IT NOTICE YOU!!!

Scripted Sequences: All Non-Basement animatronics activate just before the phone call ends. Max moves at 1:00, Zangoni at 1:30, and Tazz at 2:00.

Strategy: This night is known for being unforgiving. Use the Night 4 strategy, but don't send security to the Animatronic Storage if The Puppet is anywhere near the path. If Max appears in a hallway, send security to stop him. Move security away from a room The Puppet is in. Completion: You get a check for $300. The check reveals the player's name: Connor Bolts. The player also recieves a star on the title screen.

Night 6:

Phone Call: Hello? Listen, *starts sounding rushed* you got a phone call this morning, right? Listen, WE'RE CLOSED! I convinced the owner to close this place for the day, so I can try to fix- * banging on a door* A phone call was sent to most employees, about coming here tonight. IN MY VOICE! I never sent any message! I got everyone to not go in to Freddy's, but... well... you're here. I-I found the true source of-f the virus. I-t-it was the endos-s-keleton I was testing on. We found it's suit, and- *sounds of glass breaking* N-no! The suit! It's-it's-it's *from now on, the voice changes to a demonic voice* ME! IT'S ME! IT WAS ALWAYS ME! DID YOU FORGET ME?! *static*

Scripted Sequences: As soon as the phone call ends, all animatronics activate and the power goes out. When the power's out, the rooms are a lot darker, so you must shine the camera's flashlight to see anything.

Strategy: This is the second hardest night in the game. Follow the same strategy from Night 5, but check Old Foxy while switching between cameras, keep Smiley in the doorway, hide whenever you put down the camera, do not let an animatronic into the Gift Shop, and keep Springtrap as far away from the Office as possible.

Completion: It shows a newspaper article, titled: FAZBEAR BREAK IN! The article reads: "Police responded to screams in the recently opened Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. Not much details have been revealed, but the place is said to be shutting down. Kids all over the neighborhood are upset at this new developement. More info expected soon."

Night 7:

Just like the first 2 Five Nights at Freddy's games, Night 7 is a Custom Night, where you control the AI Difficulty (0 meaning inactive, and 20 meaning super aggressive) for all of the Animatronics. (Note that Smiley is always active, since if he wasn't, Katie would be impossible to deal with) However, unlike the other games, you're given more control over the difficulty. You can now also change:

  • How often animatronics go to BB for upgrades
  • If the Old Animatronics and Springtrap scare Security
  • Whether or not Foxy acts like he did in Night 2 or Night 3
  • How much Smiley increases the aggressiveness of the Animatronics
  • Whether or not 6417 starts off aggressive
  • How often Katie attacks cameras
  • How much The Puppet needs to see Security to become aggressive
  • If there's a blackout, like in Night 6

There are also presets, which give you prizes if you complete them.

Deaths

If an animatronic reaches you, they jumpscare you. There are many different sounds the animtronics can make.

Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy, 6417: A high-pitched sound that resembles a distant scream.

Toy animatronics: A sound resembling a higher pitched Golden Freddy scream from the first game.

Old animatronics: A distorted version of the regular (non-Toy) scream, but lower.

Katie: A cry/scream that sounds like a teenage girl.

Max: A deep maniacal laugh.

Zangoni: Alien growling/talking.

Tazz: A deep growl, then a loud roar.

The Puppet: Distorted "Pop goes the Weasel", then a distorted Toy animatronic scream with faint buzzing in the background.

Golden Freddy: A deep roar. Resembles its scream from the first game.

Springtrap: A distorted version of the scream from the third game.

The Game Over screen is also different depending on which animatronic killed you.

Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, Foxy: A picture of the Parking Lot camera, with a bloody Freddy suit laying in a corner.

Toy animatronics: A picture of what appears to be the Prize Corner. Bloody legs are hanging from off-screen, with a note saying "666 tickets" next to it.

Old Animatronics: It shows Old Freddy with his mouth open, and a bloody human hand sticking out of the mouth.

6417: Shows its right arm, dripping blood.

Katie: It shows the Animatronic Storage door, with blood coming through the crack below it.

Max: Shows blood on a wall, with it spelling "DID YOU FORGET ME???"

Zangoni: It shows Zangoni from the back, holding a bag that's dripping blood.

Tazz: Shows what appears to be Tazz's open mouth, with blood covering his teeth.

The Puppet: Shows a corpse hanging from stings. The Puppets mask is placed on the corpse's face.

Night 6

Minigames

Minigames return for this game. In order to play them, you have to beat the Night before. All minigames are 8-Bit.

Name Description Night
THE BITE You play as Toy Freddy in the second game. You start on the Show Stage. You can walk around the entire pizzeria. Kids are playing with the animatronics in most rooms. A security guard makes his way to Kid's Cove shortly after you start. If you enter the Office, he ushers you back to the Game Area. Entering Kid's Cove causes Mangle to charge at the Security Guard. The game ends in a loud noise. Night 1
REACTIVATION You play as the Purple Man in the first game. You have to walk around the pizzeria, avoiding the animatronics. You start in the Restrooms. Once you reach the Office, Golden Freddy appears and flies towards you. The game ends in a loud noise. Night 2
BURNED You play as Freddy in the third game. You start in Cam 02. A fire begins behind you and spreads. The fire ends the game if touched. As you walk through the cameras, you can see Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy succumb to the fire. If you reach Cam 10, the door is open. Walking out the door leads to the game ending in a loud sound. Night 3
PAYBACK You play as a girl in Kid's Centre. There are 2 boys with you. Walking to a fixed Toy animatronic destroys them, turning them into their iteration in this game. Walking to Mangle (which doesn't appear until the rest of the Toys are destroyed) causes Old Chica to charge from off screen. Touching her makes the game end in a loud noise. Night 4
REBIRTH You play as the Puppet in the Animatronic Storage. Just after the game starts, Golden Freddy disappears. Walking to the areas Animatronics start causes them to follow you. After reaching the Office, the Security Guard starts running off screen, and the game ends in a loud noise. Night 5
BREAK IN You play as a police officer. You are in the Parking Lot. You follow 3 other police officers into Freddy's. As soon as you enter, the animatronics (sans Golden Freddy and Springtrap) appear and attack the other police officers, killing them. You then taser all of them, deactivating them. The game ends in a loud sound. Night 6
Night 7

Night 7's minigame is unlocked after completing the Nightmare preset. It is unnamed. It begins by showing a cutscene of sorts. It shows multiple black and white scenes, showing: the Purple Guy killing a child, the soul posessing the Puppet, the Purple Guy killing 5 children, the Puppet putting them in suits, the Purple Guy killing 5 more children, the animatronics putting those children into suits, the Purple Guy's death, Springtrap killing 4 more children and putting them in suits, and the animatronics killing the girl who would eventually become Katie. The minigame then turns to color. You play as Golden Freddy. You walk in a strange alley. Upon reaching the end of the alley, you meet Springtrap. Touching Springtrap starts another cutscene. This one actually has text displayed over the animatronics, in their respective colors. The transcript is as follows:

Golden Freddy: Bonnie?

Springtrap: Freddy? What are you doing here?!

G: I came to talk to you-know-who.

Purple Guy: You've already turned me to this, goldie! What do you want!

G: Why did you do this to us?

P: I'm a MURDERER! What do you expect?

G: Then why did you talk to your buddy, many years ago.

P: ... I wanted him... to not know what I did. I lied to him. Said it was a bug. Wanted you to kill him. So no one would know about me.

G: And the other 4?

P: HE was the one who knew about me. From that horror attraction. I made more, to help you kill him. Then I would be thought dead. I would be free to kill!

G: ...

P: Why did you suddenly want to know all this?

G: Because I wanted answers. I wanted to know everything you did, before I do this.

P: What do you-

Golden Freddy then charges at Springtrap, and the screen goes to static.

The game ends with a pic of all animatronics (besides Smiley and 6417) on the floor, their ghosts surrounding the Purple Guy's.
