Tropius, known in Japan as トロピウス (Tropius), is a Grass/Flying-type Pokémon. It's not known to evolve from or to any other Pokémon.

Biology[]

Tropius is a large, brown Sauropod with green leaves wrapped around its chest. It also has four large, broad leaves on its back, which it uses as a pair of wings, as well as for photosynthesis to produce sugar. It also has leaf-like appendages and colors on its head, resembling some sort of helmet. It also has yellow toenails. Notably, the feet on his hind legs have two nails, while the feet on its front legs only have one.

As it is a sauropod, Tropius possesses a large neck, which it uses to reach treetops so it is able to feed itself on its favorite food, presumably bananas. Because it eats these fruits all the time, a bunch of banana-like fruits began to grow under its chin as if it were a beard. These fruits are very delicious and produce twice a year due to Tropius's sugar production. As such, these fruits can be eaten by humans and Pokémon alike, and are very popular amongst children. In the spring, Tropius releases pollen of this frut from its neck.

Trivia[]

  • Tropius shares its height and weight with another Grass-type Pokémon, Venusaur.

Origin[]

Tropius resembles a generic sauropod, mixed with a banana plant.

Name Origin[]

Tropius is a mix of tropical and Saurus (Greek for lizard). It may also be a pun on tropism.
