The Legendary Roz Raven/Volume 1

The Legendary Roz Raven - Volume 1 is the first volume of the Fantendo - Drive series, "The Legendary Roz Raven", released in late 2017. The series and the main character, Reese III/Roz Raven, are a homage to tokusatsu shows such as Kamen Rider and Super Sentai, though definitely taking more inspiration from the former. The Legendary Roz Raven was originally meant as an anniversary series for Fantendo, and while its delays prevented it from being so, it still features an incredible amount of references to the Fantendoverse and its many species.

Characters

Main Characters

• Reese III - A clone of Supreme Overlord Reese who defected and became the masked hero known as Roz Raven, RIII loves helping people in need and is a very kindhearted person, bonding with people in very short time, however, this also has lead him to get into trouble, and the terrible actions he's done under Supreme Overlord Reese's bidding lay in the back of his head. RIII is on a quest to collect all of the Memory Gears before Supreme Overlord Reese does. (Memory Gear Count: 2 - Catalyst Auto, Beorn Manual).
• Khaleya - A Dylin (a crocodile alien species from the New Fantendoverse) who quickly forced herself as RIII's sidekick. Khaleya is sassy, brash and a bit aggressive, she's also not very trusting of people which is a stark contrast to RIII, only joining him at first to be able to gain some of his glory and fame, however she soon learns that trusting nobody but yourself doesn't lead to anything good. (Memory Gear Count: 0)
• Supreme Overlord Reese - A Reese from another universe who's a dark conqueror, conquering many planets and galaxies until the destruction of his home universe, now he currently resides in a base floating through many universes along with a sizeable, yet very small in comparison to his previous army size, army, hoping to get all of the Memory Gears in order to regain his power. (Memory Gear Count: 2 - Diabolus Manual, Human Auto).
• Reese 22 - The second clone of Supreme Overlord Reese, originally known as Reese II until he was killed by Reese III, now he lives, but lacks a soul and is 85% mechanized. Reese 22 now lacks any emotion except intense loyalty towards Supreme Overlord Reese and determination to stomp over anyone who gets in his way. (Memory Gear Count: 3 - Dylin Manual, Narobii Manual, Catalyst Manual).
• Leah II - A clone of Neotendo's Leah Needlenam, Leah II is devoted to Supreme Overlord Reese and obssesed with murdering RIII, to the point where she will actually refuse to work on plans if it means she'll miss the chance of potentially killing RIII. Despite her insanity, she's very skilled at mechanics and has a decent knowledge of medicine. Leah II is insanely obssesed with RIII's friend Khaleya, her hate for him stems from seeing him as "competition", no matter how many times RIII states that he's not interested in Khaleya. (Memory Gear Count: 0).

Minor Characters

• Neotendoverse Leah Needlenam - A now deceased friend of RIII who worked under Supreme Overlord Reese along with him, but when RIII started having thoughts about defecting, she did too and helped RIII escape the Neotendoverse at the cost of being caught and murdered by Supreme Overlord Reese, something that still haunts RIII to this day. Leah Needlenam was really passionate about mechanics and was known to be determined and hotheaded, though still a kind person at heart.
• Monkey • Trip Katzenjammer - A member of the intergalactic warrior Sudanima's Zodiac Killers, Trip is a jack of all trades with a variety of abilities thanks to his Memory Gears. (Memory Gear Count: 12 - Monkey Automatic, Dragon Manual, Snake Manual, Ox Manual, Goat Automatic, Dog Manual, Tiger Manual, Rat Manual, Pig Manual, Chicken Manual.)

Summary

The story revolves around Reese III/Roz Raven and Khaleya's quest to obtain all of the Memory Gears, in the process travelling to every corner of the New Fantendoverse and having to fight the "Death Generals" sent by Supreme Overlord Reese along the way. Each Issue is divided into Episodes which each have their own self-contained narrative, usually revolving around Roz Raven having to fight a Death General in a monster-of-the-week format, however, each one also moves forward an overarching story.

Issue #1 - The Start of a Hero's Legacy!! Go, Roz Raven!

Episode 1 - Broken Past

The issue starts with a pattern of alternating panels, first a black panel, then a panel showing a blurry and very distorted version of an upcoming event, then another black panel, however, after this repeats for a couple of panels, it suddenly shows a very clear image of somebody's eyes, glaring with a deadpan look. Afterwards, we get a panel of a muscular red humanoid creature with rugged skin and horns, wearing black armour, standing in front of a pale man with blonde hair and a royal-looking coatjacket sitting slumped over to the side on a throne.

Red Humanoid: "...And that's exactly why it'd be most benefitial for your army and my army to ally up! We already have a number of galaxies with unique resources under our belt, and sharing our conquered planets will only bring benefits to both of us!"

BEELZEBUB

FATHER OF ALL DEMONS

(NOT TO BE CONFUSED WITH SATAN)

Beelzebub: "So what do you say, Reese!?"

Reese keeps staring at Beelzebub completely deadpan and silent, not making any movement until after a couple of panels of awkward silence, he sits upright in his throne and takes a deep breath.

Reese: "Okay, so I thought about it and I think my decision will benefit us both greatly..."

Beelzebub: "...Really!?"

Reese, whilst still mantaining his deadpan stare snaps his finger, causing the wall behind him to turn around revealing millions of laser guns that instantly fire at Beelzebub and his army, desintegrating them instantly. Suddenly, Reese breaks his deadpan look to laugh maniacally...a'nd instantly afterwards he goes back to his deadpan look and slumps over his throne.

SUPREME OVERLORD REESE

GALACTIC CONQUEROR

(ALSO POSSIBLY INSANE)

Reese gets up from his throne and snaps his fingers again as a computer screen appears before him.

Reese: "Set ship coordinates to that Artizz planet that used to be under Beelzebub's possesion."

Reese suits up in armour and leaves the room, heading towards a big ship with around a hundred monsters inside, he sits in the driver's seat and pushes a button as the ship heads to the coordinates inputted by the computer, in other words, Artizz. The ship flies over the planet dropping the monsters in escape pod-like capsules before landing in front of a huge fortress.

:Reese: "Okay, so apparently this is where most of the army is concentrated...I'm ready."

Reese calls forth a sword from inside the ship and it is shot out from a cannon at him at a high speed, however, he catches it and doesn't even flinch as he moves forwards towards the fortress, with the Demons inside noticing him and becoming confused and worried. Reese grins inside of his armour before his emotion suddenly shifts into intense anger as he holds his sword up in the air.

~Taro Kobayashi - Armour Zone~

Reese slashes the air in front of him, causing the castle in front of him to be sliced in half.

Who are you, the me inside of me?

Show me the figure hidden in the shadows!

Oh...the depths of derivation!

A flying demon is taken aback by the sudden attack but quickly recomposes himself when he sees Reese approaching and gets out a walkie talkie-looking device to communicate with the rest of the troops.

Flying Demon: "This is an invasion from Galactic Conqueror Reese, I repeat! This is a--"

Suddenly, Reese's sword flies through the sky and slices the demon in half before falling back down as Reese catches it. It then cuts to the demons that received the warning, who suddenly suit up to deal with the threat.

Trembling bodies are red and minged!

Where is my heart? Also looking for the pain!

Reese is met by a group of big armoured demons wielding maces and cannons, but he doesn't seem phazed and just keeps calmly walking forwards.

The heart is overflowing only!

Hey! We live in Armour Zone!

One of the Demons opens fire, but Reese deflects it with his sword and the cannonball blasts the Demon's head off, the other Demons look nervous but dash forwards as Reese smiles.

The wind cuts with a hoarse voice

In this city where beasts are laughing!

To eat or to be eaten, is your fate?

Oh yeah!

One of the Demons attempts hitting Reese with a mace but he gets out a shield at the last moment and blocks it, leaving the Demon vulnerable as Reese stabs his head through his helmet and lets go of the hilt, leaving it stuck to the Demon's head. Reese suddenly crouches and sweep kicks the other Demon off of his feet, knocking him to the floor before hitting him with an axe kick as his armour electrifies his boots.

Look, the taste of sorrow is in my throat!

My claws held up, I disappear nastily!

A cloaked figure with his face covered in shadows, way smaller and thinner compared to the previous Demon stands menacingly in front of Reese, his eyes glowing yellow as he wields a silver katana.

???: "Pathetic...Those fools may have been weak, but I shall not be that easy of a challenge..."

The figure lunges at Reese as his cloak comes off, revealing him as a Demon wearing traditional japanese attire with white hair and glowing reptile-like eyes.

???: "Remember my name, because I, Acala, will be the one who'll send you to hell!"

What do you eat in order to live?

Betraying...all races!

Acala tries to hit Reese with his blade, but Reese blocks with his shield, however, Acala's katana suddenly lights on fire and manages to break through Reese's shield, leaving him shocked and stunned.

HOW DO WE SURVIVE!?

Acala slashes at Reese with all of his might and sends him flying backwards and in pain as he lands on the ground.

~End song~

Reese looks at his torso and finds his armour burnt and sliced diagonally down the center, with blood pouring out, he touches some of it, staining his hand, and holds it up to his face.

Reese: "...B...B-Blood? I'm...bleeding? When was the last time I-"

While Reese is distracted, a group of flying Demons fire flaming arrows at Reese from crossbows, almost all of them hit, causing Reese to recoil in pain as Acala closes in.

Acala: "Where did that incredible strength from before go? After that initial display of power, I expected a much better fight from you."

Acala dashes at Reese, who's still in the ground in pain until, at the last moment, he grabs one of the arrows that hit him and throws it at Acala. The arrow doesn't hit him directly, as Acala dodges at the last second, but it still grazes the side of his face, leaving a big scar. The flying demons are shocked as well and are about to shoot again until Reese stands up and rips out more flaming arrows and throws them at the flying Demons, shooting them out of the sky and leaving Acala stunned.

Reese: "...I'm...not done yet..."

Reese takes the opportunity to jump up and push Acala onto the ground, allowing him to run up to his sword, once stabbed into a demon, now laying on the ground after the Demon melted into red smoke. Reese grabs his sword and holds it high in the air, making it start glowing, as Acala stands up again and tries to lunge at Reese, however, Reese retaliates by stabbing the air in front of him with his charged sword, releasing a bolt of lightning that paralyzes Acala and leaves him vulnerable to a slash by Reese that cuts him in half.

Reese: "...*sigh*...Finally..."

Reese turns around and stares at the remnants of the fortress before cracking his knuckles and heading in, the comic doesn't show what happens inside, instead showing it from the outside, at first looking perfectly normal...before the next panel shows it exploding from the inside, afterwards what's left of the fortress crumbles to the ground as Reese comes out with a damaged armour and dirty face, he walks into the ship and sits on the driver's seat, noticing that his army of monsters has already returned from their own battle.

Monster: "...Whoa, master, are you okay?"

Reese: "Of course I am, why wouldn't I be?"

Immediately after saying that Reese's expression shifts into intense anger as he throws the sword against the wall with such force that it's left stabbed in the titanium inner walls of the ship.

Monster: "It's just...I don't think I've ever seen you be this injured after an invasion."

Reese: "Yeah...I guess I used up all of my energy with that initial blow...That's weird though, I could swear that I used to be able to do that like 15 times in a row and still have tons of energy left in me..."

Monster: "Well, sir, you have to remember that while you may LOOK 20 years old...You're over a hundred years old...You're growing old."

Reese looks at himself in the mirror frustrated before suddenly bursting into tears.

Reese: "You're right! My time in this world is getting shorter by the second! Oh goodness, all those planets that I still haven't conquered...my Memory Gears project...I still haven't even achieved heaven! This is terrible! Absolutely terrible!"

Reese's expresion instantly shifts back into his usual deadpan look as he stares at himself in the mirror for a while longer in silence.

Reese: "...I need to figure a way to build a legacy..."

Monster: "Uh...Haven't you thought of simply having a child?"

Reese: "Urgh...Those disgusting non-Catalyst genes would overpower my own...What would even be the point then?"

Monster: "Have you considered...cloning?"

Reese ponders for a moment.

Reese: "...I do remember we had some sort of cloning project back in the day...I remember I ended up rejecting it though...I honestly can't remember why, but I think it might be time we brought it back..."

Reese pushes some buttons on the control panel as the ship heads back to their base.

• The episodic format is a clear reference to Kamen Rider and Super Sentai's episodic story format.
• The Memory Gears are also a pretty big reference to Kamen Rider, specifically Kamen Rider W's Gaia Memories.
• Khaleya is the same species Ronnie Pepper is and Doomulus Grime was before being turned into a Doomuli.
