Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the sixth title in the Super Smash Bros. series, developed by Nintendo, Sora, Ltd. and Namco Bandai and published by Nintendo. The game is set to be released worldwide on December 7th, 2018. The game is described as the biggest Smash game yet, featuring every character who has been a part of the series as well with several newcomers.

Like its previous installments, Ultimate is an unique brand of fighting game, known as "platform fighter", containing characters from many different series, primarily Nintendo series. As of this installment, 29 different series are represented in the game with a playable character, including third-parties series such as Sega's Sonic the Hedgehog, Konami's Metal Gear and Castlevania, Capcom's Mega Man and Street Fighter and Platinum's Bayonetta.

Ultimate boasts the largest roster in the series yet, with 74 playable characters included. At the start however, players are limited to playing as the original 8 characters from the first installment, unlocking the rest of the roster through methods such as the game's Adventure Mode known as World of Light or through playing other game modes. A plentitude of modes awaits the players, with new and old game modes available for the player to experiment. Of note, the new Adventure Mode: World of Light is a sprawling single-player adventure of which the players must free the spirits of the fighters attacked by a mysterious being known as Galeem.
