CrossClash (クロスオーバークラッシュ, Crossover Crash) is a crossover fighting game released for the Nintendo Switch on September 29th, 2022. Developed by Faz Studios, the game focuses on bringing together media franchises which appeal to the game's director, TheFazDude, in a vein similar to the Marvel vs. Capcom franchise.

Akin to many traditional fighting games, CrossClash features one-on-one battles pitting characters against each other, with each fighter having unique special moves and attributes to gain the edge in combat. This style of fighting is also combined with a variety of gameplay modes, which are available both online and online via Nintendo Switch Online.

Gameplay[]

CrossClash is a traditional fighting game akin to Marvel vs. Capcom and Mortal Kombat, featuring one-on-one battles. Each fighter has a health meter located at the top of the screen (left for player one, right for player two), with the objective of each match is too deplete the opposing player's health. A variety of game modes are available which alter this formula, offering new gameplay experiences.

However, an effort was made to simply the game's controls so that players inexperienced with traditional fighting games could enjoy the gameplay experience. The basis for the control scheme was inspired by the fighters from the Super Smash Bros. series, specifically the Fatal Fury franchise's Terry Bogard in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

This results in each figure having a selection of grounded and aerial attacks, alongside five special moves. In addition, each fighter has a Clash Charge meter located beneath their health meter, which fills up as they rack up combos and take damage. This meter has three sections, and filling up each one allows the player to use the corresponding Clash Attack for their character (a level 1 Clash Attack for the first bar, Level 2 for the second, etc.).

Aside from attacking, each fighter can make use of a guard. Using a guard will put the fighter in a defensive state, allowing them to nullify most damage and knockback from the opponent's attacks. Tilting the control stick while guarding can also cause the fighter to sidestep, allowing them to dodge attacks out of the guarding state. However, being hit too much while guarding will cause the fighter to be stunned for a short time, leaving them open for attacks.

Versus A simple one-on-one match between two fighters.
Tag Team Both players select three fighters (with each member of a Duo Fighter team being available individually), being able to swap out between them in battle. The objective is to KO all the other player's fighters.
Tournament Up to 32 players can be entered into a tournament bracket for either Versus of Tag Team gameplay. Online tournaments in particular have two variations: Standard Tournaments which follow consistent rules and are available for play at any time, and Event Tournaments which may limit play to certain characters, items, or stages, and are available for a limited time.
Battle Royale Up to 50 players can compete in a Battle Royale, which plays very similarly to the single-player Survival Mode. The player which outlives all the others wins.
CrossClash TV Players can view ongoing online matches, being able to place bets on them. If the player wins a bet, they will recieve Betting Chips which they can use to unlock characters, alternate costumes, stages, or music tracks early. Players can also publish saved battles online for the world to see.

Extras[]

Characters Here, the player can view all their unlocked characters, their biographies, and a brief description of their moveset.
Music Player Here, the player can listen to any music they've unlocked. The Music Player allows the player to listen to music even while the Switch is in sleep mode.
Statistics Here, the player can view their game statistics, such as their longest combo, most played character, and others.

Characters[]

CrossClash contains 50 characters in its base roster, with 20 being available upon starting the game and the remaining 30 being unlocked through gameplay. Unlocking fighters can be done through a variety of methods; they can be either unlocked through random fights against them after normal matches or a unique prerequisite for each character. In addition to the base roster, ten downloadable characters were released, bringing the roster size to 60 fighters.

Each fighter has their own unique moveset and attributes, giving them both strengths and weaknesses against other fighters. In addition, upon completing their Arcade Mode route, each fighter can unlock an alternate costume, changing their appearance, taunt, and/or victory animations/themes. Both costumes have six alternate color schemes, leading to a total of twelve alternate appearances for each fighter.

A handful of fighters are known as Duo Fighters. These fighters are actually teams comprised of two characters, with them being able to be swapped out through use of their Back Special. However, both fighters share the same health and Clash Charge meters. During Tag Team matches, Duo fighters are seperated, with their Back Special being replaced with a dodging move.

Each stage has eight music tracks which can play on them, with four more being unlockable (with the exception of DLC stages, which come with all twelve of their tracks available by default). Up to eight music tracks can be saved in a "Favorites" playlist, allowing them to be played on any stage.

Some stages also have stage hazards which can interfere with battle, although these can be toggled off if desired.

Defense Orb Slightly increases the player's resistance to attacks for a short time.
Clash Orb Raises the player's Clash Charge meter by one bar.

Bosses[]

CrossClash has a variety of bosses which can be fought in Arcade Mode and Boss Battles.

Metal Mario

Metal Mario

Metal Mario is a form Mario can take on by donning the Metal Cap. However, a Metal Mario has been spotted acting independently for the heroic plumber, although his intentions remain a mystery...

Metal Mario is one of the simplest bosses design-wise, being nearly identical to Mario aside from increased weight and HP, the former of which leads to less mobility. However, Metal Mario's weight is so high, most attacks in the game can barely send him anywhere. As such, Metal Mario is easy combo food, but his attack power should be taken into consideration should the player mess up an input.

Metal Mario's battle theme is his theme from Super Smash Bros. Melee, and he is fought on Final Destination.

Punch Metal Mario throws a heavy punch.
Fireball Metal Mario tosses a blue fireball forwards, which bounces along the ground for a short time before dissipating.
Super Jump Punch Metal Mario leaps into the air with an uppercut, dealing multiple hits of damage before coming back down.
Star Spin Metal Mario does a quick spin with his arms outstretched. While the move deals decent damage and launches the opponent, its main function is to reflect any projectiles which hit Metal Mario's arms during the spin.
Clash Attack: Metal Mario Finale Metal Mario fires two large spiraling blasts of fire which push the player away while doing multiple hits of damage.
Giga Bowser

Giga Bowser SSBU

Nobody is sure how Bowser harnesses the power to access his Giga form; Not even the Koopa King himself. However, while in this feral state, he becomes stronger than ever, being able to tear through even the fiercest of warriors.

Giga Bowser is a towering foe, being one of the largest bosses in the game. Fittingly, his attacks are also very powerful, although they lack range. This, combined with his high HP makes him a formidable boss, although one that can be mastered with enough practice.

Giga Bowser's battle theme is his theme from Super Smash Bros. Melee, and he is fought on Bowser's Castle.

Swipe Giga Bowser swipes with his claws.
Fire Breath Giga Bowser spews flames from his mouth, being able to rack up multiple hits on the player.
Flying Slam Giga Bowser reaches out to grab the opponent, bodyslamming them if he succeeds. Despite its poor range, the Flying Slam is Giga Bowser's strongest move.
Whirling Fortress Giga Bowser tucks into his shell and spins around, creating a whirlwind around himself which can freeze the player.
Giga Bowser Bomb Giga Bowser leaps into the air and comes crashing down, causing a shockwave once he lands.
Clash Attack: Giga Bowser Punch Giga Bowser disappears into the background of the stage to deliver a devastating punch. Unlike Bowser's version of the move, however, Giga Bowser's is easily telegraphed, but is an automatic KO should it land.
Tiki Tong

Tiki Tong

Tiki Tong is the ancient leader of the Tiki Tak Tribe, a group of malicious tiki heads with hypnotic powers. Fueled by the juice of bananas, Tiki Tong is a formidable opponent who can deal some serious damage.

Tiki Tong's battle is unique in the regard that the player cannot attack Tiki Tong directly, as his body looms in the background of the stage. Rather, the player must attack his hands to damage him. Tiki Tong himself doesn't have the best HP, but his attacks have great power.

Tiki Tong's battle theme is Tiki Tong Song from Donkey Kong Country Returns, and he has a unique battlefield similar to that of the final boss fight in Donkey Kong Country Returns.

Sweep Tiki Tong sweeps one of his hands across the stage.
Hand Slam Tiki Tong slaps a palm against the stage, launching the player should they be impacted. On rare occasions, Tiki Tong will do a fakeout before attacking.
Fist Slam Tiki Tong slams a fist against the ground, similarly to Hand Slam. However, while the move is easier to see coming, its power is much greater. The fist also creates a shockwave which the player must jump over to avoid damage.
Headbutt Tiki Tong headbutts forwards. This reveals the button on the top of his head, which the player can attack to deal additional damage.
Clash Attack: Clap Tiki Tong claps his hands together, which meet at the middle of the stage. If the player cannot dodge or leap over the hands, they will take immense damage.
Metal Sonic

Metal Sonic Forces

One of Dr. Eggman's greatest creations, Metal Sonic was designed to not only mimic Sonic's high speeds, but to surpass the Blue Blur in every way. Due to this, Metal Sonic will do anything to triumph over his organic namesake, even if that means betraying his own creator.

Metal Sonic is a very fast boss, his speed equaling that of Sonic's. As such, it can be tricky to land hits on him. However, he doesn't have very high HP to compensate for his superb evasion game.

Metal Sonic's battle theme is his theme from Sonic Mania, which in turn is a remix of Stardust Speedway's Bad Future music from the Japanese release of Sonic CD. He is fought on an unique battlefield which resembles Stardust Speedway itself.

Swipe Metal Sonic swipes with his claws.
Metal Laser Metal Sonic fires a blue laser from his chest.
Maximum Overdrive Metal Sonic immerses himself in electricity before charging forwards at high speed.
Missile Metal Sonic fires a homing missile at the player.
Black Shield Metal Sonic immerses himself in a shield which nullifies any damage he may take during its short duration.
Clash Attack: Metal Madness Metal Sonic becomes a larger, more beast-like version of himself as he fires a large laser from his mouth.
Heavy Gunner

HeavyGunnerSpeedstar

One of the five Hard Boiled Heavies, Heavy Gunner is reckless and VERY eager to take down his targets. Keep an eye out for his dangerous missiles and assistant Eggrobos!

Heavy Gunner is a fairly standard boss, not being superb in any specific category. However, all of his attacks are ranged attacks, so the player must be prepared to dodge Heavy Gunner's onslaught.

Heavy Gunner's battle theme is High-Spec Robo Go!, the Hard Boiled Heavies' battle theme from Sonic Mania. He is fought on an unique battlefield resembling Studiopolis Zone from Sonic Mania.

Missile Heavy Gunner fires a missile straight forwards.
Homing Missile Heavy Gunner fires a missile which homes in on the player.
Missile Rain Heavy Gunner flies to the top of the stage, firing missiles from above.
Charge Heavy Gunner speeds forwards, attempting to damage the player by ramming into them.
Clash Attack: Eggrobo Fleet The siren on Heavy Gunner's head sounds as a fleet of Eggrobos fly past the state, firing laser shots into the foreground.
Herbert

HerbertClubPenguin

Herbert is a polar bear who, quite ironically, hates the cold. Together with his partner Klutzy, he's staged numerous attempts to turn Club penguin Island into his ideal tropical paradise, only to be thwarted by the EPF.

Herbert is a simple boss, being able to take and receive lots of damage. However, his mobility is lacking. This makes him a relatively easy boss for newcomers to face.

Herbert's battle theme is Battle of Doom from Club Penguin, and he is fought on an unique battlefield which resembles the Iceberg of Club Penguin.

Punch Herbert throws a punch.
Earthquake Driller Herbert hops into the Earthquake Driller and drives forwards, requiring the player to jump over the drill in order to avoid damage.
Bot Attack Herbert places down one of three robots from the System Defender minigame:
  • Red: Drives straight forwards.
  • Orange: Jumps forwards, but deals the least damage.
  • Purple: Slowly drives straight forwards, but deals the most damage.
Hot Sauce Herbert uses a bottle of hot sauce as a makeshift flamethrower, rapidly damaging the player.
Brain Box Herbert attempts to put a Brain Box on the player. If he succeeds, the player's controls are temporarily reversed.
Klutzy Klutzy the crab walks across the screen. While he doesn't directly attack the player, he will deal damage upon contact. Klutzy takes one hit to KO.
Clash Attack: Popcorn Bomb Herbert pulls out a popcorn bomb which soon detonates, dealing massive damage to the player.
Arch-Illager

Arch-Illager

Banished from his home, the Arch-Illager roamed the land for many years before discovering an artifact of great power; the Orb of Dominance. Now corrupted by the Orb's power, he yearns for vengeance against those who wronged him.

The Arch-Illager is a lightweight boss who hovers in the air during his battle. His attacks are generally very quick, but those which aren't are usually very strong. Evasion is key to taking down the Arch-Illager.

The Arch-Illager's battle theme is his theme from Minecraft Dungeons, remixed for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. He is fought in Redstone Mines.

Staff Swing The Arch-Illager swings his staff forwards.
Energy Blasts The Arch-Illager uses his staff to conjure three energy blasts which are fired towards the player.
Vindicator The Arch-Illager summons a Vindicator which runs forwards to chop at the player.
Redstone Golem The Arch-Illager summons a Redstone Golem which slams the ground, creating a shockwave which the player must jump over.
Clash Attack: Self-Enchant The Arch-Illager enchants himself, temporarily increasing his speed and attack power.
Nightmarionne

NightmarionneCC

Nightmarionne is a being which eits only in your mind. He could be hiding anywhere and at any time. Don't get too comfortable at night, or he might just take the opportunity to strike...

Nightmarionne is an endurance boss; The player cannot defeat him via normal means, and instead must run out a 180 second (three minute) clock in order to beat him. This doesn't stop Nightmarionne from attacking the player, however, and his attacks can be quite deadly.

Nightmarionne's battle "theme" is the ambiance from Five Nights at Freddy's 4, and he is fought on an unique battlefield based off the bedroom from the same game.

Swipe Nightmarionne swipes with his talons.
Lunging Swipe Nightmarionne lunges forwards while swinging his talons.
Teleport Nightmarionne teleports to another area of the arena.
Tentacles Nightmarionne vanishes from the background as tentacles emerge from the left, right, or top of the arena, damaging the player upon contact.
Grounded Tentacles Tentacles temporarily cover about half of the standing ground, damaging the player as they stand in them.
Clash Attack: String Stab Nightmarionne appears in the arena's background at a large size before stabbing into the foreground with his talons to deal major damage to the player.
L.O.L.Z.H.A.X

LOLZHAX

The L.ogarithmic O.nline LAN-compatible Z.ero-error H.ydraulic A.uxiliary X.ylophone was built to take care of Freddy Fazbear's son while he went on dangerous space missions (err, don't ask). However, the robot went rogue and abducted Freddy's son, leaving his father to travel across the galaxy to save him.

L.O.L.Z.H.A.X. is a speedy boss with great mobility, but lacks in attack power. However, the speed of these attacks makes him just as dangerous as the other bosses.

L.O.L.Z.H.A.X.'s battle theme is Fine Dierum, the boss theme from Freddy in Space 2, and he is fought on an unique battlefield resembling the final boss room of the same game.

Clash Attack: FiNaL fORmZ!!!!!!1! L.O.L.Z.H.A.X. becomes a gigantic animal-like mech as he moves to the background of the stage, firing a bullet hell of projectiles before returning to the stage in his normal form.
The King

TheKingCC

The hateful ruler of the Darkners, the King will stop at nothing to destroy the Lightners which set foot in his domain. Not even his own son, Lancer, will be spared from his wrath.

The King is a heavyweight boss with slow, yet powerful attacks. While he has a variety of projectiles with which he can attack with, his few melee attacks are among his strongest.

The King's battle theme is Chaos King, his battle theme from Deltarune: Chapter One, and he is fought on Card Castle.

Punch The King throws a punch.
Spades With a wave of his hand, the King conjures a series of spades which fly towards the player.
Tail Spear The King stabs his tail forwards, dragging the player to him should it connect to them.
Spiked Cage The King throws a cage which can trap the player inside, leaving them open for more of the King's attacks.
Spade Chain The King throws a chain of spades forwards, flailing it wildly.
Clash Attack: Darkness Falls The stage becomes much darker, leaving the player barely able to see themselves or the King for a short time.
King Dice

King Dice

King Dice is the Devil's right-hand man, and his wit and cunning make him deserving of that status. While usually an affably friendly fellow, you'd be wise to adopt one piece of advice... Don't mess with King Dice!

Much like his battle in Cuphead, King Dice's battle is preceded by battles against four randomly chosen mini-bosses. Each of these bosses have the same HP and don't suffer any knockback. King Dice himself looms in the background of the stage, with his weakpoints being is head and hands.

King Dice's battle theme is The King's Court, his theme from Cuphead, and he is fought on an unique battlefield resembling the All Bets Are Off level.

Mini-Bosses
Chips Bettigan Chips appears on the left side ofthe screen and attacks by sliding across the screen in two parts.
Mr. Wheezy Mr. Wheezy appears on the right side of the screen and attacks by blowing smoke puffs at the player. He can also teleport to the other side of the stage.
Pip & Dot Pip & Dot appear in the top center of the screen and attack by sending spikes across the floor and diring dominos at the player.
Phear Lap Phear Lap appears in the background and attacks by throwing horseshoes at the player. Presents also appear which explode into more horseshoes if not destroyed.
Mangosteen Mangosteen appears in the top center of the screen and attacks by spitting plasma balls at the player.
Mr. Chimes Mr. Chimes flies around the stage, smacking his cymbals to create damaging music notes.
King Dice
Card Parade King Dice casts a parade of walking red and black playing cards. Pink cards are safe to land on and propel the player into the air.
Clap King Dice claps his hands in the center of the stage, damaging the opponent should they be hit.
Gruntilda

Gruntilda Spirit

Who is Gruntilda? Haven't you heard? She's always scheming against that bear and bird! With her spells and magical broom, her great power will lead to your doom! You'd better bring all of your might in order to survive in her boss fight!

Gruntilda rides on her broomstick during battle and is immune to knockback. To compensate for this, her attacks are easily telegraphed and don't deal too much damage.

Gruntilda's battle theme is the final boss theme from Banjo-Kazooie, and she is fought on an unique battlefield which resembles the top of her tower from the same game.

Broom Bash Gruntilda swoops across the screen, dealing damage with her broom.
Fireball Gruntilda hurls a fireball at the player, exploding once it hits the ground.
Homing Spell Gruntilda fires a spell which homes in on the player.
Lightning Ball Gruntilda tosses a sphere of electricity at the ground, with the ball expanding upon contact.
Clash Attack: Shield Gruntilda temporarily gains a shield which protects her from projectiles.

Super Boss[]

CrossClash boasts one super boss which can only be fought after certain perquisites are met:

  • All characters, stages, and music tracks (aside from those added as DLC) have been unlocked.
  • All Arcade Mode routes have been completed on Nightmare difficulty.
  • Rundown Rumble has been completed in one life.
  • Every boss has been defeated at least once.

After these conditions have been met, the super boss becomes available through the Boss Battles menu. Upon iniatiing the boss fight, the player can select three characters to take into a Tag Team battle against the boss. Uniquely, the battle begins with a standard fight against Sans, who transforms into the super boss upon defeat.

Sansiroth

Sansiroth

With his origins shrouded in mystery, only two things are known for sure about Sansiroth; He exists, and he is VERY dangerous. With a variety of devastating attacks at his disposal, he will give all who incur his wrath a despairful time.

Sansiroth is the strongest boss in the game bar none, and while his HP is the same as Sans', his attack resistance renders him capable of tanking many strong blows. In addition to this, he has a variety of powerful attacks, one of which being an insta-KO move.

Sansiroth's battle theme is an almalgamation of MEGALOVANIA and One Winged Angel, dubbed in-game as One Winged Judge. He is fought on a decrepit version of the Last Corridor from UNDERTALE.

Swipe Sansiroth swipes his bone sword.
Blue Bone Sansiroth fires a blue bone forwards. Despite its great power, it only hits the player if they are moving.
Gaster Blaster Sansiroth fires a Gaster Blaster straight forward. It has great power, but length startlag.
Shortcut Sansiroth disappears before reappearing somewhere in the arena.
Blue Flare Sansiroth snaps his fingers. If the player is in range, their mobility is temporarily nerfed.
Bone Dash Sansiroth rushes forwards while swinging his bone sword.
Skulltilla Sansiroth casts a honeycomb-like barrier in front of himself, blocking attacks. The barrier explodes a second after deployment.
Mercy Kill Sansiroth rears his bone sword back before stabbing it forwards. While the start lag of the move is immense, the attack instantly kills the player if it connects.
Clash Attack: Superdunking A massive Gaster Blaster appears above the opponent, aiming towards them before firing an equally massive laser.

Upon defeating Sansiroth, the credits of the game roll and a star is added to the title screen, signifying that the player has 100% completed CrossClash.

Trivia[]

General[]

  • The Redstone Mines stage was primarily added to add more Minecraft music to the game, including fan-made parodies. This decision was brought about by the multiple remixes of Minecraft music featured in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, with three of those tracks being brought over to CrossClash.
  • The sixth DLC fighter, Gustice, as well as her accompanying stage, Power Plant, were added as the result of a poll done in late November 2020. A similar process was used for the tenth DLC fighter, Creeper, in January 2021.
