Conquest is a (completely fictional) first person shooter game that began as an amateur, one-map DOOM 2 PWAD and eventually became an unfathomably large metaverse - a metaverse with countless decillions of players online at any given time.

Version 0.0.1[]

Arguably the very first version of the game, Conquest version 0.0.1 (sometimes referred to as "ver/vee oh oh one" or "the primordial version") was posted on the DOOMWORLD forums by an unknown individual going under the username "Addemup".

Conquest version 0.0.1 was an extremely simple DOOM 2 PWAD. All it did was replace the first map of DOOM 2 with a different one, presumably both designed and built by the mysterious "Addemup". Simply referred to as "MAP01" over the first several years of the game's history, this singleplayer map took merely thirty seconds to complete on average. It also took up an extremely small amount of storage on one's computer - 12.4 kilobytes, to be exact - and it did not add any new textures, monsters, or decorations to the base game that it was modifying.

As it wasn't really that notable at the time, Conquest version 0.0.1 and its subsequent minor released (with a file name of "conquest.wad") only achieved 4 unique downloads over the course of the next ten days, with the very first review of the WAS saying it was simply "okay" and "nothing new". Little did anyone know, however, that this "okay" PWAD was to eventually evolve into the most popular game of all time.

Version 0.0.2[]

Conquest version 0.0.2 (sometimes pronounced "ver/vee oh oh two") wasn't that different from Conquest version 0.0.1. All it did was tweak MAP01 (evidently based on suggestions by its first players) and added a second map, given the label MAP02. MAP01 was also given a formal name: "Labyrinth".

As with Conquest version 0.0.1, Conquest version 0.0.2 didn't receive that much popularity - recent discoveries suggest both interest in the WAD actually declined following the release of version 0.0.2!

Version 0.0.3[]

Conquest version 0.0.3 (sometimes known as "ver/vee oh oh three") wasn't very different from the earlier two versions of Conquest. A Changelog file was introduced in the download, which (in version 0.0.3) read as follows:

v0.0.3:
  • Made some minor additions/improvments to MAP01, including a new secret
  • Improved MAP02 per suggestions
  • Named MAP02 "Lordship"
  • Added a third map ("Barony") to the WAD

v0.0.2:

  • Improved MAP01 per suggestions
  • Named MAP01 "Labyrinth"
  • Added a second map (MAP02) to the WAD

v0.0.1:

  • Initial release
— Conquest changelog, version 0.0.3

After the release of Conquest version 0.0.3, the WAD's popularity began to slowly pick up speed - there had been about 11 unique downloaders merely five days after the latest version was released.

Version 0.0.4[]

As with all versions that came before it, Conquest version 0.0.4 (or "ver/vee oh oh four") didn't add that much to the existing PWAD.

The changelog for this release read as follows:

v0.0.4:
  • Tweaked and improved all three existing maps based on user suggestions
  • Added MAP04, "County"
— Conquest changelog, version 0.0.4
