Super Smash Bros X The Neverhood

Overview[]

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate X The Neverhood is an upcoming collaboration between Nintendo and Neverhood. Inc as a downloadable DLC pack for the latest Super Smash Bros. game, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. This DLC pack contains 2 characters, a handful of music tracks, 1 stage, a spirit board, a brand new boss, and a handful of Mii costumes being released alongside the pack. The DLC pack will cost 8.99$ USD and the Mii costumes will cost 0.75$ apiece.

What is The Neverhood

220px-The Neverhood - box art

The Neverhood is a point and click adventure game that was released on October 31st, 1996 for the PC and later for the Playstation 1. The game was made and developed by the Neverhood Inc founded by the creator of Earthworm Jim, Doug TenApel. The idea of the Neverhood spawned from a little comic the team drew up called “A wonderful day in the Neverhood” Doug took this idea and expanded it into his biggest passion project, molding and sculpting the weird and fantastical world out of clay and plaster.

The Neverhood follows the chronicles of Klaymen as he wonders throughout the barren and almost eerie landscape as low droning noises envelop the atmosphere of this once beautiful land as he encounters strange beasts, a mysterious evil laugh, and cryptic alien-like runes scattered all across the walls of the Neverhood.

Skullmonkeys

When it hit store shelves in 1996 it didn’t sell well at all only managing to sell around 42,000 copies and ultimately sealed the Neverhood's fate to fade into obscurity, but the series wasn’t over yet because 2 years later in 1998 a 2d platformer sequel was released titled Skullmonkeys overhear in the west and The Neverhood 2: Skullmonkeys over in japan.

Klaymen is back again to help save the day this time he's on a new planet filled with creepy critters, strange contraptions, and weird items and things, it's up to Klaymen to find out what in the name of Arven is happening to planet Idznak and its residents.

Skullmonkeys was released for the Playstation 1 but again like the Neverhood it didn’t sell too well and faded into obscurity like its predecessor sealing the franchises fate as a forgotten cult classic, being mostly remembered by its very catchy and wacky music tracks composed by Terry Scott Taylor and later made into an album containing the soundtracks for both the Neverhood and Skullmonkeys, but there is still a small community of people who absolutely love the Neverhood (myself included).

Armikrogboxart

There was also a 2015 spiritual successor to the Neverhood called Armikrog which was created by a lot of the same people who worked on The Neverhood and Skullmonkeys. Armikrog follows the chronicles of Tommynaut: an astronaut from the dying planet of Ixen and his trusty wise-cracking, dog-like side-kick: Beak-Beak. Their mission is to fly to the planet of Spiro5 to retrieve the last of the P-Tonium crystals to save their dying planet of Ixen however they crashed into a meteor and they where sent tumbling into the surface of Spiro5 with a damaged pod and no way of getting home, the duo eventually stumbles upon a fortress which is named The Armikrog as they soon find out...Tommynauts older brother Vaugnaut had already arrived on the planet and took it over for himself, killing the 2 creators of it Mother and Father and almost killed the newly born baby P however the spirit of mother was transferred into the walls of Armikrog so she could be one with the fortress and protect it along with P and the P-Tonium crystals found inside the fortress eventually thee duo encounter the terrible Vaugnaut, manage to throw him out of the fortress, get the crystals and find a ship to return home to planet Ixen as Tommynaut and Beak-Beak are about to become the saviors of their dying planet.

Armikrog sold worse than The Neverhood and yet again...doomed the future of the franchise and its creators.

So I hope you all liked the little history lesson I gave you all, this way I can spread knowledge about these wonderful pieces of media so that they won't be forgotten by the sands of time and trust me there have been a lot of games that have been lost and never found again but I hope that me making this page will make people way more aware about these wonderful games, worlds, characters, and lore because I sure do love them to death but if you don't that fine this is just my silly personal opinion any way lets get onto the main course of this DLC pass the main fighters.

Lets-a-go!

#XX Klaymen[]

Origins[]

Klaymen is the main protagonist of both The Neverhood and Skullmonkeys, first awaking in a strange red building called the nursery and when leaving the strange building he stumbles into the main courtyard of the Neverhood itself; lifeless, dull, dreary, all complete with a pitch-black sky and droning noises to set the tone for his adventure across this barren land.

Klaymen eventually starts picking up tapes that gradually piece together the traumatic events that eventually lead the world to become empty and lifeless not only that but Klaymen notices an elevated castle of some sort sitting on top of a cliff with a strange figure looking out the window down at our main character here. After many trials and tribulations, our hero makes his way up to the now named Klogg’s Castle and proceeds to head inside only to encounter a disfigured character named Klogg who he claims to be the quote on quote ruler of the Neverhood and suggests that Klayman puts on the crown Klogg is currently holding in his hands but...he refuses and looks up at the throne which appears to have a strange figure sitting in it but he looks lifeless, Klogg, of course, snatches the crown away and tells Klayman to forget about it...until Klayman steals the crown back and makes his way up to the throne to place the crown on top of the silent figures head to awaken him.

The strange king-like figure reveals himself to be the true creator of the Neverhood: Hoborg. Klogg has had enough and attempts to stab the quote on quote old fool...then gets blasted out of the fortress by a canon thus sending Klogg to the endless abyss below. Hoborg then takes Klaymen back down to the central part of the Neverhood and they both help restore it and its people back to their former glory and thus ending the Neverhood story, but that's not all for Klaymen because 2 years later Klogg lands on a planet called Idznak home of the Skullmonkeys, he crashes down on one of the local Skullmonkeys...and skins it alive and rips its head off and wears them as a sort tribal robe and helmet and uses that to trick the Skullmonkeys into building a device called evil engine #9 to destroy the Neverhood but...not all hope is lost because a lone Skullmonkey by the name of Jerry-O has a strange flying pack he sends out to go and retrieve Klayman to finally stop Klogg and his evil plots once and for all.

Klayman runs through the 16 continents of Idznak and arrives at the evil engine which Klayman stops up the exhaust pipe with a potato given to him by Jerry-o after Klayman does this the giant ship blows up and crashes down into the endless void while also killing Klogg in the process and ultimately bringing forever peace to the Neverhood and beyond.

Play Style[]

Now with that long history lesson out of the way let's go over how Klayman will control and act in Super Smash Bros. In his home series, Klaymen is a very goofy and zany character, getting himself in all sorts of wacky and funny situations but he is also very alert always looking around for any immediate danger naturally meaning that he has sharp reflexes and fast movement to avoid getting into too much trouble so as such Klayman will be a fast but light character focused on quick hits with a lot of combo potential but not have too many attacks that will kill at lower percentages and will mostly have attacks with quick frame data and little end lag.

Klaymen’s run speed will be on par with fox’s running speed while also having some pretty high jumps similar to the likes of Mewtwo and inklings, his overall power tends to vary putting him in his own league without any real comparisons aside from maybe fox and Falco but that's all up for debate.

Klaymen will also have a theme around him and that's him morphing his limbs into tools and other stuff to help fill out his moveset after all he is made of clay and as we all know claymation tends to get pretty wild with its animations and sight gags well...most claymation based things anyway.

Moveset

Jab Klaymen will throw out 2 punches then a kick then for the rapid jab Klayman will morph his hand into a mallet and starts swinging it rapidly then finish off with a stronger swing of the mallet
Dash Attack Klaymen will morph his hand into a frying pan and swing it forwards
Side Tilt Klaymen will morph his hand into a fly-swatter and swing it forwards causing the opponent to flinch a bit, similar to the fan item from past smash bros games
Down Tilt Klaymen will morph his hand into a shovel and dig up some dirt, the downwards hit of the shovel will damage opponents but if an opponent is standing behind Klaymen they will be hit by a small clod of dirt causing some small flinching damage
Up Tilt Klaymen will turn his brown antenna into a flytrap and snap upwards with it
Side Smash Klaymen will take off his head and smash it on the ground while his brown antenna morphs into a mallet as it swings in front of himself dealing big damage and knockback
Down Smash Klaymen will perform a sweep kick while also turning his legs into fan-blades dealing multiple hits of flinching damage and causing some decent knockback
Up Smash Klaymen will clap his hands together as they stretch upwards to create a ladder dealing some decent damage and knockback while also being a great get off me tool as it can hit opponents from the sides they just have to be right next to Klaymen when he performs his up smash
Neutral Air Klaymen will perform a spinning lariat while his hands morph into boxing gloves
Forward Air Klaymen will perform a forwards punch similar to Mario's forward air while Klaymens hand morphs into a spiked boxing glove
Back Air Klaymen will merge his 2 legs together as they morph to form a cannon that shoots a small white projectile backwards similar to Mr. Game & Watch's forward air but done backwards this time.
Up Air Klaymen will morph his brown antenna into a hose spraying a short burst of water that pushes opponents upwards while also damaging them, just like Mega Man or Mr. Game & Watch's up airs
Down Air Klaymen will perform a belly flop downwards while also morphing his entire body to look blocky and stiff.
Grab Klaymen will grab with both hands
Pummel Klaymen's chest compartment opens up as a spring-loaded boxing glove pops out to hit the opponent
Forward Throw Klaymen will clap his hands together morphing them into a megaphone and then he will shout into it sending the opponent flying forwards
Back Throw Klaymen morphs his arm into a frisbee and throws it backwards with the opponent on it
Down Throw Klaymen will cup his hands together morphing them into a bucket then he slams the bucket down on the ground causing the opponent to pop them off the ground
Up Throw Klaymen will turn his brown antenna into a cannon, place the opponent inside of the cannon and then Klayman will fire it upwards
Neutral Special

Projectile Item: Klaymen's neutral special he will utilize one of 3 different projectile items found in Skullmonkeys. Depending on how long you charge the button the projectile will change, just tapping the special button will have Klaymen fire off a small shot of green energy literally just called Energy Shot, it is spam able and causes no knockback only damage around 1% per shot.

If Klaymen holds down the special button for 3 seconds it will turn into his Phoenix Hand ability, this attack will fire off heat-seeking clay birds to fly into an opponent and then explode, if the birds can't find a target in time they will just explode

Finally, if Klaymen holds down the special button for 5 seconds his projectile will turn into a giant clay ball. When this attack is used Klayman will chuck a massive clay ball forwards at an arc hitting any opponent in its way dealing good damage and knockback but if the clay ball hits the ground it makes a large sticky puddle of clay which other opponents can get stuck in, this puddle lasts for 10 seconds and can't be escaped from until the puddle fades away after the 10 seconds are up.

Side Special Guarding Halo: Klaymen will start glowing a pale yellow color while a little halo looking icon floats above Klaymen's head, he will start dashing forward at a very fast pace. This attack helps with avoiding damage and being grabbed however this attack deals no damage or knockback and simply just goes through opponents without phasing them, this is like a more nerfed version of Banjo & Kazooie's wonder-wing but also, unlike their attack Klayman gets 8 halos instead of 5 making this more useful for just trying to stay alive and or our run opponents to get away safely. Klaymen will get 8 halos per stock and can't get them back unless he is KO'ed.
Down Special

Ma Bird: Klaymen will take out a pot with a funny looking creature planted inside of the pot, Klaymen will then toss it forwards as a project tile. If this hits an opponent the ma bird will wake up and start screeching and making a lot of noise, this will stun opponents but not deal any damage to them, this is a great tool to help disrupt opponents when they are trying to gang up on you with 10,000 attacks. The spread of the screeching is around a little more than half the size of final destination making which still is pretty big but you have to plan where your opponent will land in order for you to make the right move and toss the pot out at the right moment.

However, this move has one more thing to it, if the user of this move jumps on the ma bird they will get bounced up a fair distance, they can bounce off the ma bird about 5 times with each bounce sending them higher and higher but after the 5th bounce the ma bird will let out a gigantic almost screen nuke level screech then explode into fire and confetti dealing massive damage to anyone within the radius including Klayman himself

Up Special Hi-Ho Jerry-O: Klaymen equips Jerry-O's flight pack and blasts off with it, this move will act as a damaging version of pit's old up special from Super Smash Bros. Brawl the wings of the pack will damage opponent a little bit, however, this attack will leave Klayman quite open for punishment if you're not careful, otherwise this recover is a pretty far-reaching one and doesn't put Klaymen into free-fall after it's done and the flying pack getting released will deal some damage and can even be pocketed and reflected because it counts as a projectile.
Final Smash

The Neverhood Shuffle: Klaymen will accidentally drop a green music box as it plays a tune that sounds like a garbled version of pop goes the weasel then a green creature called a weasel will come from behind Klayman and then scare him into running at the speed of light forwards. If an opponent is hit by Klayman or the weasel they will be sent to a cinematic final smash were the caught foes are teleported to Hoborg's castle as Klayman plops down into the seat of the Neverhood cannon as it rises up and takes aim at the castle, Klaymen pulls the trigger of the cannon as a white, metal cylinder is fired of at the castle hitting it and causing a massive explosion of rubble ending the attack.

This final smash is also dangerous to Klaymen as he will run off a cliff if he doesn't his an opponent when activating this final smash, the only way you can stop this from happening is to either run into an opponent or to hit a wall, canceling the attack.

Other Stuff[]

Number of Jumps Klaymen will have 2 jumps but both will have some good vertical distance
Additional Movement Options Klaymen will be able to wall jump, wall cling and crawl granting him the full spectrum of movement

#XX Hoborg[]

Origins[]

Hoborg in the Neverhood is one of seven sons created by the deity Quater. Quater assigned Hoborg to go to the Clay Mountains to find some of the highest quality clay to build his kingdom called the Overhood. So he started his voyage through the million mile desert to the mountains to only stop halfway because Hoborg was about to die of dehydration and exhaustion so he crawled under a plant to shade himself from the sun and started lumping clods of dirt together and...after making a large enough clod of dirt Hoborg managed to make his very first being, a simple little pile of mud that could move around and talk surprisingly enough.

After getting his vitality back up he started walking more, a few hours later he came across a giant robot named bil and a yellow fellow named willie. Hoborg was having some trouble getting the robot to see him so...he brutally gouged a hole out of his chest and used the stuff he gouged out like a rope, he got the attention of the robot and then he also got the attention of a fellow named willie trombone to only find Hoborg collapsed on the ground on his death bed due to his organs spilling out, things were looking quite grim until willie trombone gave Hoborg a belt to wrap around his chest hole, saving his life.

Hoborg got to the mountains and harvested a ton of clay for his kingdom but on the way back he lost a lot of it to a monster called a Tickburger (yeah nice name right) so he only had enough to make a small neighborhood filled with dozens of clay people which he then named the Neverhood and the rest is history, quite literally.

Play Style[]

Hoborg in his home series is a very laid back and very chill kind of dude with a big heart heck his name means big heart in whatever messed up and weird language the Neverhood universe has, anyway unlike Klaymen, Hoborg will have slower and harder-hitting attacks that will kill at lower percents but will have poor frame data and end lag.

Hoborg's movement speed will be a middle ground between King K. Rool and Simon Belmont's movement and attacking speed while his attacking reach will be on par with most ranged fighters like Simon and Richter.

Hoborg will also share Klaymen's gimmick of morphing his limbs to dish out attacks but now will be even more powerful and wackier than Klaymen.

Moveset[]

Jab Hoborg will throw out a single punch forwards while morphing his hand into a beehive and then for the rapid jab a swarm of bees will fly out of the beehive and strike the opponent rapidly before sending them away with a powerful strike of the swarm.
Dash Attack Hoborg will dash forwards while his crown morphs into a fire hydrant and shoots a powerful burst of water forwards at an arc that also causes some splash damage in the process.
Side Tilt Hoborg will turn his hand into a party popper and make it pop really loudly
Down Tilt Hoborg will burry his hand underground and morph his hand into a little sapling causing it to grow out of the ground
Up Tilt Hoborg's crown will extend upwards while it morphs into a stop sign
Side Smash Hoborg will turn his arm into a whip similar to Simon Belmont's whip but the ball at the end will be replaced by a flytrap that snaps forwards as a second hit along with the whip strike which the strike itself can also stun opponents so the flytrap can snap its maw shut for the second attack
Down Smash Hoborg will throw 2 seeds on the ground next to each other as 2 clay people sprout upwards to preform rising punches upwards, these clay people also act as projectiles so they can be pocketed, reflected and even go off the stage but the clay people falling on opponents will do pitiful damage so it really isn't that helpful in the long run
Up Smash Hoborg will have his crown diverge into 2 spires as they rise up and both morph into castle towers with roofs on them, this up smash has a crap ton of reach but has pretty bad end lag so be careful when using this attack.
Neutral Air Hoborg will perform a spinning lariat as both of his hands morph into beehives as 2 swarms of them engulf Hoborg in a vortex of bees
Forward Air Hoborg's crown will morph into a giant hammer as he swings his head forwards
Back Air Hoborg will perform a dropkick while his legs both merge together and morph into a T-Rex leg
Up Air Hoborg's Crown will extend upwards as it morphs into a mushroom tree as it shakes around causing fruit to fall from it, the fruit falling will deal damage but will also act as healing items healing 1-7% of damage when the fruit is consumed
Down  Air Hoborg's entire body will morph into a giant red cube and fall straight downwards, this can spike and bury opponents hit by this attack
Grab Hoborg's crown will grow a second spire out of his crown as it wraps around the opponent
Pummel The crown spire will breathe fire on the caught foe
Forward Throw Hoborg's crown will spin the opponent  around in a vortex of fire sending them away
Back Throw Hoborg's crown will turn into a tornado as it spins the opponent away backwards
Down Throw Hoborg's crown will turn into a shotgun as it shoots the opponent downwards into the ground burying them
Up Throw Hoborg's crown will turn into a thwomp as it headbutts the opponent upwards
Neutral Special

Gun Hockey: Hoborg will take out a gun hockey pistol and a puck and shoot the puck with the pistol sending it flying in any 8 directions that you choose.

If it hits an opponent it will ricochet off of them and fly even faster and hit even harder, you can also use the pistol to achieve the same effect but its a lot harder to do.

You can keep ricocheting the puck until it flies off the stage into oblivion or Hoborg is KO'ed

Side Special

Drivy Mode: Hoborg will whistle as a red ball with 4 legs appears behind him, this creature's name is Drivy and he is a rideable mount found on Planet Idznak.

This attack will have 3 parts to it. The first part will have Hoborg hop onto Drivy and dash forwards. If this attack hits an opponent Drivy will do insane knockback but will stager for 3 seconds until dashing again, you can also change direction while Drivy is staggering for a bit so you can charge in the opposite direction for move movement options

The second mode will activate if you use side special again, this will have Drivy retract his legs and turn into a red ball to run over opponents with burying them in the process however when Drivy isn't in this mode he can't stagger he can only go forwards which prevents him from turning around to continue the attack so be careful when using this mode because if you roll off a cliff you will be doomed.

Then finally the third mode will turn Drivy into a dolphin-like form named Divy as Hoborg hops into the cockpit on the creatures back as he starts piloting Divy, Divy will then dive into the ground like its water and start moving back and forth, pressing the B button will have Divy shoot yellow-colored energy pellets at the opponents and you can even jump in this mode but it can be a bit wonky because the jump travels at a very high arc so more often than not it has a bad time getting hits to connect on opponents but the jump itself can push opponents away making it dangerous to recover when the Divy mode is active.

Pressing side special again will make Divy disappear until you call on Drivy again to start the whole cycle over again.

Down Special

Life Seed: Hoborg will pull out a single life seed as it phases into the ground and pops out a Clay-Person to act as a CPU assistant to Hoborg, this CPU's intelligence will adjust to what levels the computer players are in the match and for a normal match with no computer players it will just default to being level 6.

This Clay-Person will also have Hoborg's entire moveset and all of the moves will come out faster and have a higher level of aggression compared to Hoborg's regular moveset but every attack will be a lot less powerful and won't KO at lower percentages.

You can have two Clay-People out at once but if you try to spawn a 3rd one Hoborg will try to take out another seed but instead pull out a little pebble that deals pitiful damage but at very high percentages can KO an opponent which will be hilarious and rage-inducing to the player at the receiving end.

Up Special

Throne Pillar: Hoborg will summon his very own trusty throne pillar that will catch him and let him recover his jumps.

This pillar will rise to where ever Hoborg is currently to safely catch him if he's about to suffer a KO at the bottom blast zone and Hoborg can also use this up special as many times as he wants but the downside is Hoborg will be suspended in the air for a few seconds leading to him being defenseless until he stands up on his thrown pillar so be extra careful where you use this move or else you will get spiked and thus suffering from a KO that will most likely cost you the game and that's no good.

Final Smash

Quater's Wrath: Hoborg will let out a powerful burst of light that envelops the entire stage catching any and all opponents, then they will all be teleported to a cinematic were the 7 creators of the Universe Hoborg, Arven, Numeron, Ogdilla, Ottoborg, BertBert, and Homen are all standing on their respective pillars.

Then in the center of the 7 pillars, an 8th pillar rises up that reveals Quater the creator of the 7 sons of the Universe, his crown spire starts to glow as he lets out a massive beam of multi-colored energy that eviscerates the opponents dealing massive damage and then launching them away ending this final smash.

If opponents are above 50% damage and are caught in this final smash they will be instantly KO'ed with no escape.

Other Stuff[]

Number of Jumps Hoborg will have 2 jumps and will both have average vertical and horizontal height
Additional Movement Options Hoborg will have no other options for movement.

Stage[]

The Neverhood[]

The stage included in this pack is dubbed the Neverhood, its a stage akin to that of the Ancestral Steps, the arena you

fight Rathalos in.

The Neverhood is a stage that consists of a semi-large platform with 3 smaller ones floating about it like Final Destination however unlike Final Destination the center platform is actually a semi-solid meaning that you can pass right through the bottom or top of it, the clay morphs around you as you either jump down below or rise up through the platform however this stage has one defining gimmick, there is a small chance that when passing through the platform, either way, you might become buried in the platform itself for about 10 seconds, this most commonly occurs when you constantly keep going up and down through the platform consecutively (around 5 times in a row) this is to prevent players from escaping and running away so easily so this I believe is a good way to remedy that.

The Neverhood stage itself will also be filled with a couple of background characters from The Neverhood and a few of them have special functions

Both the Weasel and The Clockwork Beast will occasionally show up as stage bosses biting at players, charging at them, attacking with their claws and stomping around to cause mini earthquakes. KOing these bosses will grant the player an extra point that counts towards a timed matches point total and when you're in a stock match with the final smash meter turned on it will be filled halfway.

Jerry-O will throw out a potato that acts as a healing item that restores 25% of damage but when you're at 0% you can pick up the potato and use it as a pretty strong throwing item that deals 15% of damage when thrown.

Drivy will occasionally start running through and jump around the stage for a little bit, disrupting the match and catching the players off guard, drivy is around sonic's speed and has an impact run effect on at all times so there is no way to KO drivy unless you hit him with a final smash, cinematic final smashes will even work on him sending him into the cutscene and all so at least you got that.

8.0.0 Update[]

Mii Costumes[]

This section of the DLC Pack will detail a bunch of Mii costumes being released alongside the fighters pack and update 8.0.0.

There will be Mii costumes related to the pack itself and there will also be some guest Mii costumes in a similar vein to Sans or Cuphead, what will these costumes be? well, you just got to wait and find out in a little bit.

Also if any guest Mii costume is announced they will come with a music track to accompany said costume so look forward to what I have in store for you lovely people and I hope you will like my selections.

8.0.0 Update[]

The 8.0.0 update will be releasing alongside this DLC pass, there will be character balances included in this update along with other modes and features that smash fans have sorely missed for a long time, these modes are;

  • Break the Targets - After many years of this mode being absent from the Super Smash Bros Series it finally returns with a vengeance, now every character has their own unique stages to test out their various abilities and skills, and as a bonus feature you can set the target test music to whatever track you so wish, so you can even play songs like Megalovania or Floral Fury on those stages so have fun with that.
  • Custom Target Courses - This next mode will surely make people happy, Custom break the target stages, just like stage builder you can create and build your own custom break the target stages with many premade assets, backgrounds, textures, and tools; you can also add as many targets as you so desire.
  • as a smaller yet funnier update assist trophies can now be caught in cinematic final smashes as we have now created unique animations for when this happens
  • we have also added a boss rush mode that contains all boss fights from super smash brothers ultimate along with many returning and new ones including; Rayquaza, Porky Minch, Duon, Classic Ridley, Mother Brain, Sigma, Tabuu, Primid Hord, Sans, The Weasel, and Giygas just to name a few, we hope you will like this mode as much as we did making it
  • Alongside the Kris Mii costume 3 new tracks from Deltarune will be added to the game, these tracks are Rude Buster, World Revolving and Field of Hopes and Dreams
