Franchise overview[]
The Sims is a life simulation series developed by Maxis and published by Electronic Arts. The franchise has sold nearly 200 million copies worldwide, and it is one of the best-selling video game series of all time. The series is technically a spin-off of the SimCity series, although as opposed to the city building simulator that it's parent series is based off, The Sims is more about the titular Sims that live their lives with input from the player. The games lack traditional goals, being more akin to a sandbox where the player defines their own goals to complete, although some elements of the game have check-list progression that rewards the player with special traits for the Sims that complete them or special furniture or other benefits. The Sims has four main installments, which all feature expansion packs that expand the scope of the game, which often includes elements like adding supernatural creatures and features to the game or adding themed content that may focus around celebrity life styles or island living or even going to university. The Sims has continued to strongly expand around letting players live out any life they please, with new installments even allowing for the creation of transgender Sims and further fleshing out LGBT+ content.
The Sims also features a multitude of spin-offs, many of which are locked off to Nintendo's handheld systems or in the case of the MySims series, are exclusively locked off to the Wii console. As such, the series actually has quite a lot of history with Nintendo as a whole- Dr. Wright himself from SimCity has appeared in every Smash game since Super Smash Bros. Brawl and his likeness has appeared in the Zelda series.
Challenger Pack[]
As part of the Challenger Pack, the following content is added to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
#79: Bella Goth[]

Bella Goth is added as a playable character along with a wealth of brand new content for the game. She is labelled fighter #79 and is based off her appearance in Sims 4. At the moment, her alternate costumes have not been confirmed so far.
Bella Goth is a Sim that appears in every single mainline installment of the Sims franchise in the base game, with her and her husband Mortimer Goth often considered one of the more prominent Sim families in the series. She also has the most in-depth lore of any of the pre-existing Sims in the series, with the series following her as a adult, child, abducted and missing, and even elderly. Bella Goth is a hidden Sim in Sims 2, as she was abducted by aliens in the storyline of that game and has been missing for a bit.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, Bella Goth pulls from an array of actions that Sims can perform across the series, which are impacted by her mood that changes under certain conditions. She has a total of three states she can be in, which are visually shown through her Plumbob that floats over her head:
- Green: Bella's Plumbob is in a default Happy state. This is what she will normally be in and considered a baseline.
- Yellow: Bella's Plumbob is in a Troubled state. This occurs when Bella hasn't performed one of her special moves in a while and will add additional power to it when it is used, resetting it back to Green.
- Red: Bella's Plumbob is in a Miserable state. This occurs when Bella's needs have not been met for a long time, usually because one of her special moves has not been used for a long time. This adds a lot of additional power to the moves that fill her needs but makes most of her moves much more aggressive as a result. She also can't take that much knockback in this state.
The Plumbob changes based off four different needs. Each of her special moves, if used, will fulfill one of these needs, either by a little bit or a lot. These bars are shown above Bella's icon and are effected by different factors and can be solved by a special move she has or through other factors from her opponent.
- Hunger - This need is filled by the Grilled Cheese special attack. If Bella throws the Grilled Cheese instead of eating it, it will not fill her need. Hunger needs drops over time and based off how much Bella moves. Food items and healing items can also fill this need.
- Energy - This need is filled by the Murphy Bed special attack. If Bella rests for a total of 4 seconds, the maximum, it will completely fill the bar but otherwise it will filled out only a little bit. Energy need drops as both time progresses and as Bella moves around.
- Social - This need is filled out by the Abduction special attack. It will fill her social need most of the time unless it's in the red. She can also taunt to fill her social need. Social need drops as time progresses.
- Hygiene - This need is filled out by the Tardisian All-in-One Bathroom special attack, which will complete the need all the time unless the bathroom is launched. She has less lag with this move if it's filled up completely, so optimal play is not letting hygiene dip too low. Hygiene is effected by movement and and drops when hit by Inkling's paint, although is also lowered if attacked with water attacks.
Moveset[]
This is rather fitting for Kirby as he only really seems to care for his hunger, which is infinite. He also sucks up his Grilled Cheese sandwich whole as opposed to chewing it. When throwing it, he shouts "Gwilled Chweese!", recorded by his voice actor Makiko Ohmoto.
Stage: Strangetown[]

Strangetown is a stage that comes bundled with the Fighter Pack. In the context of The Sims series, it is where Bella Goth was left by aliens in The Sims 2 with her memory erased. Bella Goth appears as a townie here with no memory of her family. It is a desert town that the player can live in, featuring multiple instances of past alien interaction and government presence. It also appears to be the loose inspiration for Strangerville, a game pack for the Sims 4 that deals with an alien presence infecting a town through spores. Strangetown is full of odd, strange things and tons of mystery, leaving it as a rather fascinating location in the minds of many Sims players. it's ties to Bella Goth also make it a fairly obvious stage to include with her.
Strangertown in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is re-imagined as being a travel stage similar to Island Delfino with invisible walls are on both sides of the stage that are similar to the King of Fighters Stadium stage. These invisible walls block the respective blast lines on the left and right; these walls can be broken by dealing enough knockback to a fighter. The stage goes through three main locations and features numerous cameos from Sims across the entire Sims franchise which are detailed at the end of this description.
The stage begins in 73 Road to Nowhere, a small unoccupied house that is in the dead center of the stage. Fighters can fight on the flat desert ground near the house or take the action to the roof of the house, which has a fairly flat middle but it's roofs allow for angled fights at a slope. This area is considered especially dangerous because it's close to the upper blast line, although at lower percents this is considered less of a concern. Fighting near the edges of the left and right of the screen can also be dangerous at high percents because of the wall gimmick with knockback.
Background Characters[]
The following characters cameo in the background of the stage.
*Death only appears during Stamina matches on this stage and appears when a fighter loses all their health, with a new special animation of him reaping the fighter and leaving behind an toss-able urn item that can break to reveal a small item if items are on. Death lingers for the rest of the match and will reap any opponent that loses all their health.
