Reveal Trailer
The trailer starts in Delfino Plaza at night with the Princess Peach being thrown at the ground as a gritty hand picks her up by the blouse holding her, revealing Dark Samus, and as Peach attempts to let her grip go while Dark Samus is about to smash her against a wall, however, a mysterious object of light intercepts through the grab scraping Dark Samus barely missing her but returning in a curved boomerang arc clashing against her hand and forcing her to release the grip, dropping Peach on the ground as they look at the source of the attacker, a voice is then heard and the camera pans to a shadowed figure with two golden pigtails dangling around as she speaks "Hold it right there! Will you attack a beautiful and defenseless princess? Unforgivable! I am the Pretty Guardian who fights for love and for justice!
I am Sailor Moon! And now in the name of Moon I'll punish you!"
As Sailor Moon does her iconic punishing pose, the splash tagline reads as "Sailor Moon Will punish you!", finishing her catchphrase as Sailor Moon dropkicks right on Dark Samus' head, knocking her out and the guardian landing on the ground and the scene is cut with an in-game montage showcasing her moveset and abilities before focuses back on Dark Samus who was defeated by Sailor Moon as she screams "Moon Healing Escalation!", releasing a beam of light sending Dark Samus away to the sky and Peach gets up looking grateful while Sailor Moon looks back at her, winks and jumps on the sky, juxtaposing between the moon covering her silhouette.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate x Sailor Moon
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate x Sailor Moon is the name of the collaboration between Nintendo and Naoko Takeuchi's Sailor Moon franchise along with content from Toei Animation's anime series, both from the original series and it's reboot, Sailor Moon Crystal. This collaboration, in the form of paid downloadable content, casts Sailor Moon as a playable character for the first time as part of the Fourth Party Fighter Pass Vol. 3, along with a stage originating from the series, music, cameos, spirits and many more. While the character herself and the spirit artworks retain the original anime style, the stages, some of Sailor Moon's attacks and part of the music's design are kept both from the manga and Sailor Moon Crystal.
Sailor Moon is the second character of the Fourth Party Fighter Pass, following after the first one being Blue, from Nick Jr.'s Blue's Clues.
Franchise Overview
Sailor Moon (美少女戦士セーラームーン, Bishōjo Senshi Sērā Mūn, originally translated as Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon and later as Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon) is the japanese shōjo manga written, illustrated and published by Naoko Takeuchi, run throughout the Nakayoshi magazine from 1991 to 1997, gaining so much traction it has earned an anime adaptation produced by Toei Animation and broadcasted in Japan from 1992 to 1997 in the form of 5 seasons which is the more common and known version of the series. After that the series skyrocketed into popularity making it one of Toei's best selling franchises through earning a myriad of merchandise, live action spin offs, musicals, a reboot under the name of Sailor Moon Crystal, also published by Toei Animation, making the titular character one of the most prominent and iconic superheroes and anime characters due to her recognizable design. The franchise also revolutionized the magical girl genre and as of today the series are still highly growing up and will always be remembered as a classic.
Sailor Moon revolves around the adventures of a junior high school student named Usagi Tsukino living a double life as she transforms into the legendary Sailor Moon, who leads over a group of guardians named Sailor Senshi, each representing a planet of the Solar System, searching for the magical artifact, the Legendary Silver Crystal and fight against villains to prevent them from thwarting the crystal and dooming over the Planet Earth as each season she follows through a new adventure.

Usagi Tsukino would be your normal, common and average cheerful, ditzy, happy-go-lucky and clumsy crybaby junior high school girl studying in Azabu Juuban who is in reality living a double life as a superheroine being the eponymous Sailor Moon. One day, Usagi is approached by a magical speaking black cat named Luna as she reveals that she is the incarnation of the legendary Sailor Moon and by granting her a magical brooch, awakening Usagi as with it she can transform into her alter-ego Sailor Moon, destined to save the Planet Earth from the evil forces of the Queen Beryl, finding the Princess Serenity and leading a group of other Sailor Senshi representing their respective planet who, much like Moon, each one of them were reincarnated into a dormant civilian living in Tokyo who would be later awakened as their true form.
Gameplay
Sailor Moon is a playable character added into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, taking her appearance and design from the original anime series as she is labelled as Fighter XX of the Fourth Party DLC pass. For the sake of simplicity, Sailor Moon will be referred as Usagi Tsukino throughout her appearance in Smash. Usagi brings most, if not all of her power-ups, artifacts and attacks attained throughout the series into Smash.
Sailor Moon fits the archetype of average projectile zoner character as she doesn't particularly excel in any stat but she isn't hindered by terrible stats either. Usagi functions as a long-range zoner in the form of two solid projectiles, giving her opponents a tough time to approach her and she doesn't fall short in attack power as all of her Smash Attacks are highly capable of KOing opponents at early high damage and most of her tilts and weak attacks strategically place her opponents into spots that allow Usagi to land combos, coupled with her slightly above average speed, making her threatening to deal with in the right hands.
Despite that, Usagi does lack on the defensive side as after you get past her long range and projectiles she can be quite defenseless and her low weight does not help her from preventing being knocked away and juggled around. Most of her attacks also, while quick startup, suffer from notable endlag which punishes her if she fails to land a move correctly.

Crystal Palace is one of the most important settings in Sailor Moon. Built after the former Tokyo city, right in the Juuban District, home of Usagi Tsukino, the Crystal Palace was ruled under the Neo Queen Serenity and the King Endymion during the 30th Century, also housing the rest of the Inner Senshi and Outer Senshi, such as Sailor Pluto guarding behind the Space-Time Door in the deepest parts of the palace, which are the only people allowed to enter in. As the name indicates, the Crystal Palace is mainly built of an indestructible and impenetrable material.
In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the Crystal Palace serves as Sailor Moon's home stage, composed of a flat walk-off layout with the exception being the Roof, the size between Boxing Ring and Coliseum with two invisible barriers covering both blast zones, each area sharing the same trait similar to the King of Fighters stage, usually coming with floating platforms and stage hazards, matching those of Battlefield coming in around. The Crystal Palace serves as a travelling stage that cycles through 4 areas: the Entrance, the Ballroom, the Roof and finally the Space-Time Door, cycling back to the Entrance.
The Entrance is, as the name implies, the path leading to the door of the palace and is a plain flat stage with two columns erected at the sides of the door with two small platforms at the top near the upper blast zone that only specific fighters can land on them and other two at the middle that allows anyone to land on. Through devastating attacks or if they have taken enough damage the columns will collapse into a bunch of debris that make up for an arched platform. Fighters that were under the column when it collapsed will take moderately huge damage and be launched away. Once the stage cycles back to the Entrance, the columns will reemerge. As character cameos, Sailor Mercury, Mars, Jupiter and Venus will show up spectating and cheering on the battle. The Entrance then moves onto the Ballroom. The Ballroom consists on a large room with a few platforms scattered around it and a massive chandelier with two stories is placed in the middle of the stage where fighters can stand on them, similarly to the light fixture in the Boxing Ring stage where it's considerably high to be unreachable with some characters but not high up the blast room. Opponents knocked out that respawn will always be atop the chandelier. Likewise, the chandelier can take damage which will cause it to swing both sides violently knocking opponents around and with a strong impact it'll fall to the ground and collapse, crushing fighters underneath it, and once the stage cycles back to the ballroom, the chandelier will be repaired and hanged again. The stage then cycles onto the Roof. As character cameos, Tuxedo Mask/King Endymion, Neo Queen Serenity (if Sailor Moon is not fighting in the stage), Chibiusa and the cats Luna, Artemis and Diana spectate and cheer up on the fighters.
The Roof is the most hazardous part of the stage as unlike the other stages its a jagged platform built of pointed crystals emerging from every direction randomly much like the platforms angling the battle at different scopes, even leaving gaps between them where fighters can fall through their demise. A few cluttered platforms in random order also spawn, allowing fighters to stand on them. This is also the only area where the platforms slide back and forth, up and down. The stage then follows onto the final area, the Space-Time Door. As cameos, Sailor Uranus and Neptune can be seen contemplating the battle and embracing each other but due to the nature of the area they stand atop a floating platform in the background. The final area, the Space-Time Door is arguably the blandest one compared to the rest of the stage as platforms don't spawn up and it's a pretty much flat stage but the thing that makes it stand out is the imposing door of the Space-Time, guarded by Sailor Pluto. During the course of the battle the door will open for 3 seconds, sucking people in before closing out. Anyone who is caught by the vacuum is dragged out of the door and loses a stock. This only happens once until the next cycle kicks in. After that, the cycle restarts back into the Entrance. Sailor Pluto, as aforementioned, is seen guarding the door and contemplating the fight, accompanied next to Sailor Saturn. The hazardless version of the stage only consists on the Entrance, with the columns and their platforms standing still erect but cannot be destroyed. The blast zone walls are removed. The Omega version of the stage consists on a platform made of colorful crystals with the palace shown in the background.

Since Joker is holding a Lip's Stick to refer the roses he often throws to interrupt the battle whenever Sailor Moon is on perils, he literally throws the Lip’s Sticks instead of using them. After 30 seconds of battling Sailor Moon, Joker will show up to parody how Tuxedo Mask seemingly always arrives late to a battle. The stage, Fourside resembles the Osa-P's Jewelry Store where he first appears and Sailor Moon is first awakened and fought against a Youma to save Naru and her mother. | ||

A lot of Sega related costumes have also been brought as well. The Hats also come in as a free addition alongside the DLC.
Note: Both Cooking Mama and Hat Kid receive a Mii Costume Deluxe in a similar way as Sans and Cuphead, each coming with their own tracks, Let's Cook in Cooking Mama's case and Your Contract has Expired in Hat Kid's case. Several spirit events were eventually also hosted representing the Cardcaptor Sakura, Vocaloid, Persona 3, Tomb Raider, Little Witch Academia, Cooking with Mama and A Hat in Time series.
Trivia
- Credit to IncarnateParanoia (t∣b∣c) for letting me use one of his templates as an inspiration, as well as laying out the base template of the Spirit Tables before altering it myself.
- Naru Osaka is the only civilian character who is completely unrelated to the rest of the cast that appears as a spirit. The reason of this is that the author has taken a liking to her and felt she was quite iconic to the series and on her own.
- The reason as to why the Crystal Palace was served as the series' stage instead of other more iconic ones is that the author has considered others such as the Hikawa Shrine, the Game Center Crown or even the Juuban Public Middle School is because the author felt there were many city-based stages and had the need to divert into something more unique.
