Super Smash Bros. Ultimate x Puyo Puyo is a collab with Nintendo's crossover game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and the Sega's puzzle game Puyo Puyo. Other than Dr.Mario, puzzle games could you some justice to join the battle and Puyo fits the bill very well. This includes a playable character, additonal spirits, new music, and a new stage.
It would be revealed during a Mr. Sakurai Presents ??? much like how Byleth was announced.
Reveal Trailer[]
As typical for a Smash Bros. trailer, it stars off with the usual slash logo. This is a GCI trailer. Dr. Mario is seen going to his office and starts to defeat viruses just as usual as you would expect with Dr. Mario. After Dr. Mario starts to clear out the viruses, he goes on to the next set of viruses only to realize that the viruses are not the viruses that he saw eariler and instead are slimy little creatures. Dr. Mario tried to defeat the little Puyos, but they never work as they are not viruses but rather just simple slimy creatures. Dr. Mario felt really mad frustrated because he thinks he can't defeat these guys. However, a hand is seen being placed on Dr. Mario's shoulders, the Doctor looks back and sees an adorable looking girl with a yellow creature who is actually Arle Nadja and Carbuncle trying to comfort the Doctor. Dr. Mario feels better and let's Arle clear out the Puyos that went into the Doctor's game. So then, Arle get's excided and says "It's not over yet!" only for the splash screen to show up and says "Arle Pops In". We also get to see gameplay footage of her including her moves and and animations. At the end of that gameplay segment, the logo appears and says Super Smash Bros. Ultimate x Puyo Puyo (the sound effect that accompanies the Puyo Puyo logo appearing will be an puyo pop wreck sound effect). After that, we get to see a CGI segment of Dr. Mario learning how to use Puyo and Arle learning how to use Dr. Mario's pills which is ment to be a comical scene. It's gets even sillier when Kirby shows up and meets Carbuncle as it is a refrence to Kirby's Avalanche. The music that will play in the trailer will be It's Been a Long Time Since We Passed Through Space Time.
Franchise Overview: What is ?[]
Puyo Puyo is a series of puzzle games tat are created by Compile. Sega currently owns the rights to Puyo Puyo since 1998 and the franchise is a spin-off of the Madō Monogatari series. The Madō Monogatari are a dungeon crawler RPG game series which certain Puyo Puyo characters had originated with including Arle Nadja herself, but would that be considered another story since we are mailny discussing Puyo Puyo? Anyways, the gameplay of Puyo Puyo is being able to control little slime-like creatures called Puyo. You have to match the Puyos by moving, dropping, and roating them to an area you want the Puyos to fall. When four or more of the slimes are matched to each other, they will pop albiet they must be connected horizontally or vertically. You can make a chain reaction of Puyos in order for Nuisance Puyo to appear as they can clog up your screen but will disappear when Puyo are popped next to them. In other words, it's a race of survival. Well, not really.
Believe it or not, there were two Western versions of Puyo Puyo that were released exclusively for Western audiences. They are Kirby's Avalanche and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine. These two games replaced Puyo Puyo characters with the characters from Kirby and Sonic in their respective games. The puyos are also referred differently (well more specifically in Mean Bean Machine).
As Part of Challenger Pack ???, Arle Joins the Battle![]
Arle in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate | |
Universe | Puyo Puyo |

Boxing Ring Title | Apprentice Mage |
Final Smash | Bayoen |
The Young Magical Girl, Arle Nadja joins the battle. Of course her appearance will be based on her appearance from her more modern-looking style as seen in more recent Puyo Puyo games such as Puyo Puyo Tetris, Puyo Puyo Champions, Puyo Puyo Quest, and Puyo Puyo 20th Anniversary only with a GCI HD look that will stay true to what she really pretty much like what she looks like in Puyo Puyo Chronicle only this is Smash.
To get this out of the way, Arle is the main protagonist of the Madou Monogatari series and the earlier Puyo Puyo games. Despite this, she still a prominent character who can be seen as the main protagonist of Puyo Puyo in general. She is a spellcasting little girl who roams the world to search adventure with her creature friend Carbuncle. However, she is often desired by the Dark Prince who is an antagonist of the series.
Arle is a fairly lightweight (well not too lightweight) character who have average normal speed. She also has plenty of magic up her sleaves. She can't wall jump either just to clarify something. On the English version, she is voiced by Erica Mendez (who some of you recongnize her as the voice of Ryuko Matoi from Kill la Kill, Maki Harukawa from Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony, Gon Freecss from Hunter x Hunter, Retsuko from Aggretsuko, Bernadetta von Varley from Fire Emblem: Three Houses, Akko from Little Witch Academia, and Sailor Uranus from Sailor Moon. She also voiced one of the Smashers before which was Pac-Man but that in the video game tie in of Ghostly Adventures) while her Japanese voice actress will be Mie Sonozaki.
Alternate costumes[]
- Default
- A black color that is based on Dark Arle, the main antagonist of Puyo Puyo 7
- A red color based on Doppelganger Arle, a villainous sorceress based on Arle
- A pink color based on Amitie, the main character of the Puyo Puyo Fever series.
- A yellow color based on Ringo Ando, the main character of Puyo Puyo 7
- A green color based on Ally, a self-proclaimed adventurer from a world that was not of other Puyo Puyo locations
- A cyan color based on Rulue, a powerful martial artist who is Arle's rival.
- A orange color based on Draco Centauros, a human dragon hybrid
Gimmick[]
Magic Points: In Madou Monogatari III, she still has a limit on how often she can use her spells. In Smash, there will be a meter that will accompany Arle. Everytime she abusively spams her magic spells, the meter will go down and once it's completely empty, Arle won't have to use her magic. If you want the meter to be filled up, Arle would need to wait for the meter to fill up. Think of the Hero's gimmick, but unlike Hero Arle can't fill up her meter just by attacking so she has to wait kinda like how Robin would need to wait for their tomes and Levin Sword to be restored. Even if the meter is not empty yet, Arle can still restore her meter just by waiting. This makes Arle a stragetic character as it prevents spammers from abusing her albiet her ways of filling up the meter are ment to be fair. The meter will fill up fast in a balanced way so no worries.
Also, just because her magic meter is empty does not mean that she will be useless as she can still be in good hands as she can still help herself. To be fair however, she can't use her Smash attacks and Specials if it's empty so watch out.
Moveset[]
basic attacks[]
- Jab Combo: Arle does a kick, second jab is another kick only with her left foot. She has two jabs.
- Side Tilt: She does a single punch with her right arm. Just look at this.
- Up Tilt: With a bit of magic in her finger, she points up to the sky. It looks silly, but it works. If the meter is empty, it would be a simple point to the air.
- Down Tilt: She does a sweeping kick much like Ness' down tilt.
- Dash Attack: Arle does a dashing slap in the face. It may be a slap but boy it does hurt so smack them away.
- Smash Attack Forward: Judgement: This is one of Arle's magical abilities. She will charge up a magical sphere that can be used as a projectile. It will explode on impact and it's a multi-hit move. It can be deadly if you are foolish enough. It's taken from Madou Monogatari saturn.
- Smash Attack Upwards: Heaven's Ray: Summons a ray of light with the palm of her hands. It her version of Palutena's up smash.
- Down Smash: Mind Blast: Faces the screen and creates an orange ring of waves that will stun opponents and then launch them.
- Neutral Aerial: Spins while her arms are out streched. She is pointing in this attack with a magical effect. If the meter is empty, she will still do this move only without magic.
- F-Air: Points forward while making a magical burst from her pointer finger. It's a multi-hit move. If the meter is empty, it's a simple point.
- B-Air: Swpies upwards to anyone behind her. Of course she uses her finger to make magic. If the meter is empty, it's a simple swipe.
- Up-Air: A burst of wind magic is created above her finger much like Zelda's up air. However, this does not involve fire as it's just magic. It's also a multi hit attack and it's one of those magic spells that is able to be used in Puyo Puyo SUN Novelisation. If the meter is empty, it's a simple point to the air.
- Down-Air: Sonic Ball: Shoots a light pink orb downwards. It's a down air attack that uses a projectile much like Mega Man's. If the meter is empty, it's a simple palm strike downwards.
- Floor attack: Basically kicks on both sides. What else?
Throws[]
- Grab: Grabs with her right arm
- Pummel: This one is a silly but cool one. Every time she pummels, she will actually use colored Puyo to magically appear and bonk on top of the opponent.
- F-Throw: Punts the opponent. She's basically kicking her grabbed foe.
- B-Throw: Before throwing backwards. She points her foe with the basic magic that she has.
- Up-Throw: Fire Storm: Makes a whirlpool of flame at the opponent to launch her foe upwards. This is from the Waku Puyo Series. If her meter is empty, just a simple upwards throw.
- Down-Throw: Stone: Causes a big stone to bury foes. This is a magic attack seen in i-mode Madou Monogatari. If the meter is empty, just a downwards simple throw.
Specials[]
- Neutral Special: Thunder: Arle floats briefly and a small spark travels in a straight line much like Mii Gunner's Stealth Burst only more control. Once released, a thunder bolt will come crashing to where the player wants it to appear and will appear for a short period of time. Unlike Pikachu's, the bolts won't spike and they work differenty from Pikachu's. For the sake of visuals, it would look something like this except it's ony one bolt
Diacute useage: The bolt will actually be accompanied by a more bigger and wider bolt
- Side Special: Fireball: Shoots a fireball that is a bit larger than Mario's fireball. They fly like Hero's Frizz or Sephiroth's Flare. If it comes in contact with an opponent, it will explode in a fair manner. Now if Diacute is used, it will change into this. It does have homing properties, but it doesn't really home that much.
Diacute useage: It will change into an attack that shoots 3 fireballs.
- Up Special: Ice Storm: This is her recovery move as she spins around creating a vortex of ice magic around her. This can freeze foes at will. She can be controlled while rising with her icy storm she has created and it travels fairly.
Diacute useage: The radious of the storm will be bigger and the freezing chance is much higher. Also her travling recovery is much more higher than usual.
- Down Special: Diacute: This is rather a prominet move that she has. A magical circle will appear around her as it's her charging animation. Depending on how long it's held, the magic circle will proceed into being turned into a magical orb that rotates around her. If she uses her special moves while her orb is in place, her special move will become more powerful at the cost of the orb which will disapear and that would make Arle go back to normal. They don't intend to boost her stats or anything. If she presses down specail again while her orb is still appearing, it will dissapear as it's an option for players who do not want to use it for now. The orb that is around her can also disapear by not using it for a certain amount of time or if she get's K.Oed. Despite the move making Arle feel more powerful with her specials, it would lower her defense a little so it's best if you actually know when to use Diacute.
- Final Smash: Bayoen: Arle floats in the air and releases a ball of light that floats upwards. Once it reaches off screen, an arrow will indicate where you want the Garbage Puyo to land on. Once chosen, Arle causes a cluster of Garbage Puyo to fall down in the sky where the player has chosen multiple times with the final touch of her final smash involves her being able to summon a Sun Puyo that comes crashing down. This wont affect her gimmick. This is seen in Madou Monogatari Saturn.
Miscellaneous Animations[]
Note: On her taunts, Carbuncle will appear much like how Morgana appears in Joker's taunts.
- Entrance: Magically warps into the stage as if she traveled to a dimension. The warp animation would look something like this
- Idle 1: Just smile and wave boys smile and wave.
- Idle 2: Goes into a thinking expression.
- Up Taunt: Arle jumps for joy in a happy while saying "Whoopie" Carbuncle would jump up as well.
- Side Taunt: Strikes a cute pose while pointing saying "Want more?" Carbuncle poses as well in a fabulous way.
- Down Taunt: Faces the player in this pose thus saying "Keep Going". Carbuncle would wave at the player.
- Victory Animation 1: Carbuncle runs to Arle and she pick him up while saying "Were Number One" while doing a piece sign
- Victory Animation 2: Carbuncle dances while falling colored puyo fall on screen, then Arle who is riding on a giant puyo falls into the stage and says "Yeah!"
- Victory Animation 3: Carbuncle goes on her shoulder, Arle says "Were together forever Carby" and Arle does a pose like this
- Loss: Does this as if she was frustrated.
- Victory Theme: A remix of Victory of Puyo Puyo
Stage[]

Max. Players | 8 |
Arle's homestage will be an arena that is seen in Puyo Puyo Champions. This arena features a colorful and awesome looking stage that features some elements from Puyo Puyo all in HD CGI glory. It may be a flat stage (but it's nothing like the KOF Stadium as it's a walk off stage). Everything starts to be fine until giant Puyo fall in the stage (but not too big). The puyo will fall into the stage and they will behave like platforms once on ground. They often mix and match with each other as you would expect with Puyo Puyo. Some characters from the series make cameos in the background watching the fight. Let's take a moment and introudce you guys are pals that will be watching. In fact, there are some character who are fan favorites so expect to meet a bunch of faces. There would be 32 characters that would get to appear on the background.
Music[]
Comes with these tracks. It's even more huge in comparison to the SNK tracks so jam all you want

Alongside Arle's fighters pack will be outfits that are made for the Miis. They can be downloaded so here they are.

Trivia[]
- Harpy, Onion Pixie, Nohoho, Panotty, Banshee Trio, Frankensteins, Gogotte, Hohow Bird, and the Starship Tetra crew were planned to be in the cameos.
- The fact that Rulue's spirit battle can have Bayonetta sometimes be invincible is a nod to her ability called Clear the Mind from the Saturn version of Madou Monogatari
- For some reason, Amitie appears in the thumbnail if you go to the category section. Ironic since the article is about Arle instead of Amitie.
