Mario
|
Mario is the Mushroom Kingdom's hero, who has saved Princess Peach from the evil Koopa King countless times. His trademark fireballs are known to be his greatest asset, obtained after he touches a Fire Flower power-up. Mario and his brother, Luigi, are said to have appeared in the Mushroom Kingdom after stumbling through a warp pipe that they found in their hometown of Brooklyn.

Luigi
|
Mario's less courageous brother, Luigi is well known for his ghost hunting, which stems from his rivalry with the villainous King Boo after he had captured Mario inside of a portrait. Luigi's cowardly image makes him faster and more agile than his brother, and is shown to be a little frazzled in his abilities. It is rumoured that Luigi holds romantic interest in Daisy, the princess of the desert kingdom, Sarasaland. He is very competitive when it comes to sports, and is known to stare into his opponents' souls should he surpass them.

Bowser
|
The evil ruler of the Koopa Troop, Bowser is the King of the Koopas who kidnaps Princess Peach out of love, and the wish to rule the Mushroom Kingdom. With his seven Koopalings, he is able to almost see his plan through, only to be thwarted by the Mario Bros. Despite their rocky relationship, Bowser is still invited to most of the sporting events held by Peach. Whether he forces the Mushroom Retainers to invite him, or he just shows up to try and feel victorious, is up for debate.

Princess Peach
|
The ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom, Peach is often a welcome guest at one of Bowser's Castles. While not held captive by the evil menace, she enjoys spending time with her heroes, Mario and Luigi, and often competes in the kingdom's sporting events. Alongside a magical parasol named Parry, she once had to journey across many lands to save the Mario Bros. from Bowser's clutches.

Toad
|
A prominent member of the Toad species, and Peach's loyal assistant, Toad is a good friend of Mario's who often aids him in adventures and has followed him through the kingdom and even to the stars. He well known for his high pitched voice, and his annoyance of telling Mario that Princess Peach awaits him in another castle.

Rosalina
|
The Queen of the Cosmos, who flies the Comet Observatory through the starry skies. Rosalina once lived in the Mushroom Kingdom before she helped the Luma who crashed in her backyard to return to the stars and find its mother. Vowing to make sure no Lumas become sad, she stayed in the cosmos, watching over the Lumas as their motherly figure.

Bowser Jr.
|
The heir to the Koopa throne, and Bowser's only child, Bowser Jr. is second-in-command of the Koopa Troop, and acts as its leader in Bowser's absence. He occasionally works with Bowser's Koopalings in his father's endeavours, setting them at various posts to stop the Mario Bros. Bowser Jr. originally met Mario while on the tropical Isle Delfino, where he was manipulated into believing that Princess Peach is his mother.

King Boo
|
The king of the ghostly Boo species is aptly named King Boo. Angry at Luigi and his brother for capturing and defeating his minions, he trapped Mario in a portrait and fought Luigi while inside a robotic suit of armour designed in Bowser's likeness. After his first defeat, he travelled to Evershade Valley where he once again took control of the ghosts and fought Luigi, this time inside of the homeworld of the ghosts: the Paranormal Dimension.

Koopa Troopa
|
One of the lower class grunts of the Koopa Troop, the Koopa Troopa is a turtle-like creature that walks on two feet. They come in many varieties: red, which will turn away at edges, green, which will walk off cliffs, yellow, which hide coins under their shells, and blue, which drop their shells after being defeated; allowing Mario to wear it. Their ancestors are the pixel-like Shellcreepers that inhabit Earth's sewers, which Mario met back in 1983.

Goomba
|
The lowest ranked member of the Koopa Troop, often seen alongside Koopas, the Gooombas are small, mushroom-like creatures that with low intelligence, walking straight into Mario or even off cliffs. Goombas take a single stomp to be defeated, though some variants, like the ones that inhabit Dinosaur Land or various extraterrestrial worlds, flip over after they are damaged, allowing Mario to kick them away or throw them as weapons.

Daisy
|
Princess Daisy is the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom's neighbouring kingdom of Sarasaland. Thought to be somehow related to Princess Peach due to how close they have been since she started visiting the Mushroom Kingdom frequently, Daisy has since competed in multiple sporting events- whether it be tennis, golf, karting or basketball. Her tomboyish attitude makes her a ready athlete, and her interest in Mario's cowardly (and more athletic) brother has her training when not having to deal with her royal duties.

Bouldergeist
|
A ghostly being that inhabits a shell made entirely of rocky boulders, Bouldergeist is the ruler of the Boos that inhabit the Ghostly Galaxy. Bouldergeist fights against Mario after he rescues Luigi from the giant mansion in the galaxy's core and beats the Spooky Spirit in a race. In Fusion, Bouldergeist creates platforms and attacks the fighters from the background of his stage, similar to how he throws boulders using telekinesis in his original appearance.

Waluigi
|
A strange, lanky man clad in purple, Waluigi is Luigi's doppelganger, who often rivals him in sporting competitions. Waluigi is known for his strange powers, from the ability to swim through the air, to the ability to flash his eyes purple. He has some relation to Wario, with them either being friends or family, or simply partners in crime. Waluigi's past is shrouded in mystery, and very few know of his origins.

Lakitu
|
Lakitu is a small Koopa Troopa who likes to ride around on clouds. Attacking the Mario Bros. with Spiny Eggs, the plumbers could defeat Lakitu and hijack his cloud, which they could use to ride over the rest of Bowser's army. Lakitu also created race courses for the Mario Kart tournaments, and has hosted all of them since - picking up racers that fall off the courses and telling the racers when they complete a lap.

Hammer Brother
|
Koopa Troopas come in various shapes and sizes, each with their own abilities. One of the many subspecies is the powerful Hammer Brother. Jumping up and down as he chases after the Mario Brothers, the Hammer Brothers of Bowser's army would throw small hammers that would make Mario and Luigi lose their power-ups. Not all Hammer Brothers are members of Bowser's Koopa Troop, however. Two Hammer Brothers guard the border of the Mushroom and Beanbean Kingdoms and are huge fans of the Mario Bros. and their jumping prowess.

Lemmy Koopa
|
The smallest of the Koopaling clan is Lemmy Koopa: a rainbow-haired jokester often seen balancing on top of a giant yellow ball. The first time he met Mario was after he conquered Ice Land, and stole the magic sceptre from the area's king, turning him into a seal in the process. He later travelled alongside Bowser and the other Koopalings to Dinosaur Land to continue their conquest of the Mushroom Kingdom, only to be stopped once more by Mario and Luigi.

Ludwig von Koopa
|
Ludwig von Koopa is the eldest member of the Koopaling Clan, and acts arrogant because of it. He is highly intelligent, and likes to show off both his brains and his brawns- getting annoyed when ignored in either category. When he met Mario in the clouds of the Mushroom Kingdom, he attacked the plumber with various blasts of magical energy, and floating high above Mario's head.
