The 3DS version of Super Smash Bros. Fusion contains a story mode dubbed Adventure Mode: Requiem of the Ancients. The story features the return of the Subspace Army after their defeat in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, as they continue their attempts to conquer the World of Trophies. In the Japanese version of the game, the story is known as "Subspace Emissary 2: Conquest", confirming the link between the two games' stories.
Unlike the Wii U version, in which the story is its own mode with a full story and characters, Requiem of the Ancients plays similarly to the Adventure Mode found in Super Smash Bros. Melee.
