(Gonna hold onto this too, just in case I decide to come back. The notes section of my phone holds a pretty solid story for it so far and I’d like to keep it going.)

Why hello there, <insert your name here>! The name’s Rocky (tbc)! What’re you reading? ...Oh, Super Smash Bros. Darkness! I love this one! Hey, did you know that I made it? It’s true! I made this page, along with its subpages and whatever it may have within it. So please, don’t make any edits to it. Unless I really screwed up on grammar, or it could use some categories, or if you have permission. If none of those apply, don’t touch anything here. Also, feel free to comment. I worked hard on this and would love feedback of any kind.

Thanks a bunch for reading Super Smash Bros. Darkness, <insert your name here>! Have a good day!

Super Smash Bros. Darkness is the fifth game in the SSB series, developed by Sora Ltd. and Dragon Co.. This is the first Super Smash Bros. game for the Switch. Release is planned to be in December 2019 for all regions.

Gameplay

Gameplay remains relatively unchanged from the previous installments. The goal of the game is the same as the other installments: to attack and damage opponents to increase their damage percentage. The higher the percentage is, the faster players can be sent flyng from the stage. Players must knock others off the stage to perform a KO. The player with the most KOs in the end wins. This applies mainly to Time mode, however. There are three other modes: Stock, Stamina (new, technically), and Coin. In Stock, everyone has a set number of lives and do not respawn when their lives run out, unlike Time mode. The last man standing is the winner. In Stamina, everyone has a set number of HP. When you are out of HP or fall off the stage, you lose completely. Again, the last man standing wins. In Coin, players try to collect the most cash by beating each other up and making money fall. In the end, the player with the most money is the winner.

Controls are basically the same as its predecessor, Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, and can be altered to the player's preference.  Basic moves can be done either on land or in mid-air using the WiiU A Button2. WiiU B Button2 causes the character to perform Special Moves. Different variations of moves can be done if pressing these buttons while tilting theControl-StickWiiU, and depending to where it's tilted a different move will be performed. An important move is the shield which every character can do to block most attacks. They can also dodge attacks by tilting Control-StickWiiU down or at the sides while they are using the shield, it can also be performed in mid-air to dodge incoming attacks while the player is jumping or falling. However, If the shield is too small, the player is vulnerable to attacks and if the shield breaks, the player is momentarily stunned. The player can also do grabs while shielding. Once the player has grabbed an opponent he or she can either damage the opponent with the attack button or throw the opponent with the Control-StickWiiU

A new feature is the Darkness Rampage move. Players have a power meter now, similar to Little Mac's. When it is completely filled, you need to press the WiiU A Button2 and WiiU B Button2 buttons together. Upon activation, the screen will go completely black momentarily. When the light returns, the player who activated it charges at the character nearest him and performs the move. After use, the power meter goes back down to zero. This function can be toggled on and off if you like.

Move customization returns from Smash 4. Two varients of each move are available to unlock. In the Customization menu, you can create your own fighter with customized moves. You can now also customize Final Smashes.

Modes

Smash

This is your typical fighting mode. Nothing new to say here!

  • Smash: This is your typical, everyday hand-to-hand combat. You can set rules, like to change it from time, stock, or coin. You can fight against up to four people, whether they are human, AI controlled, or amiibo figurines.
  • Eight-Man Smash: This is the same as normal smash, only you can fight up to eight people. Some stages have been modified or just removed to accomodate for eight players.
  • Special Smash: In this mode, you can special rules to greatly hinder a fight.
  • Tourney: Up to 32 players can fight in a tournament. A bracket is randomly formed with all of the players, and the player needs to work their way up to the top. If you win the tourney, you get 500 coins.

Solo

Solo can be done alone, but some of the options can be done co-op, despite the name. These are bonus challenges that the player can challenge himself with.

  • Classic: Classic differs slightly from previous games. In this, you need to fight 10 randomly picked franchises, with one to three characters from that franchise. After the ten rounds, you fight either Master Hand or Crazy Hand, or both together. Fighting them together will lead to fighting Master Core after they both are defeated. When you defeat Master Hand, you earn a trophy of your character, this being it in a standard pose.
  • All-Star: All-Star is very similar as to how it was in SSB4. You fight each character in chronological order, with the Inkling from Splatoon and Captain Toad being first, as they were made most recently. After each fight, you are in a futuristic-looking place with four heart containers, and sometimes a reward like a trophy or custom part. When you complete All-Star, you earn a trophy of your character using one of its four special moves. See here for the order of characters you fight.
  • Story: The story played is similar to Brawl's Subspace Emissary. The story mode is called "Eternity's Greatest Heroes". See here for the full story.
  • Training: In Training, you fight against a character that you have unlocked already. You can control the other player, making the character walk, run, do nothing, or attack. You can also alter damage percentage and how many opponents there are.
  • Event Matches: Like with its predecessor, Darkness introduces new Event Matches. These challenges can be performed with either one player or two. See here for a list of the Event Matches.

Vault

In the Vault, you can look at your trophies, build a stage, and more!

  • Trophy Gallery: Here, the player can look at all of his trophies he has collected. They can be arranged in podiums and snapshots can be taken of them. See here for a list of all of the trophies
  • Music: Here, you can listen to all the music you collected throughout the game. You can also set the likelihood of one song playing more than another. See here for all of the obtainable music.
  • Stage Builder: Creating custom stages in this game uses elements from both Brawl and SSB4. You can use the Wii U GamePad to draw platforms, but there are also ready-made platforms and objects in a menu. There are also more options, such as adding enemy spawners that send in enemies that you fight during Trophy Quest and other modes, as well as water, cannons, and more.
  • Customization: In this mode, you can customize your characters and Mii Fighters with equipment you get from doing events in the Stadium, as well as custom moves.
  • Masterpieces: You can unlock demos of the original games that Smashers originated from. This is where you play them.
  • Records: Look at all of the milestones you achieved and the stats of all the fighters.

Stadium

In Stadium, there is a collection of mini-games that you play either by yourself or with one other person. These do not get you any major rewards, but sometimes you can earn gold or a trophy.

  • Home Run Contest: This is simple: Use the provided Home-Run Bat to launch Sandbag as far as you can.
  • Break the Targets: Using weapons available to you, break as many targets as you can during the 30-second time limit.
  • Board the Platforms: Attempt to hop onto every platform within the time limit.
  • Trophy Rush: Spend gold to give you time, then use that time to break boxes that hold trophies and custom parts.
  • Multi-Man Smash: Defeat oncoming hordes of Mii characters designed like the Miis on your Wii U. They have the powers of the Mii Fighters.
  • Smash Run: Go through a labyrinth and defeat enemies for five minutes while collecting stat boosts. After the five minutes, battle the other three players using your stat boosts.
