"Super Mario Adventures" (Originally titled Mario and Luigi Ride Again) is an animated television series based on "Super Mario" It's also based on the comic series of the same name. It airs on Disney XD. It was made for Mario's 35th anniversary.

Production[]

Most of the episodes in season 1 are based on or around the comics. Most of the animation are inspired by the postcards that are sent to Mario in Super Mario 3D Land. There are several content that show some stuff from the games. This includes backgrounds, stuff from games, items, to name a few. There are also several characters that appear from early Mario games, books, and scrapped content + beta elements. This includes some old power-ups, and new ones that were never brought into 2D form. After the show was pitched, most of the crew wanted to see how the animation was gonna look, act out, and make a major role. Most ideas were pitched from some 2D art of the characters. Stuff like artwork, and animations worked on previously. Since Nintendo and Disney has helped each other time to time, They wanted to air the show on Disney XD. They thought it was a big leap, but it worked out in the end. A second season was announced to have more content than the first and aired on February 12, 2021.

Trivia[]

Season 1[]

  • In the episode "Driving Us Crazy", Mario's middle name is revealed to be "Deuteronomy".
  • In the same episode, Mario's karting license number is SMB0958. The SMB refers to Super Mario Bros, the 09 references the month the first game came out, and the 58 (If the positions are switched) are a reference to 1985.
  • In the episode "Around The Clock", Mario and Yoshi get so tired at one point that they change personalities. This is a joke at that not getting enough sleep isn't good for you.
  • The episode "Supermarket Scramble" features characters that haven't appeared in years. Some characters include Kooper from the Paper Mario series, Starlow, and what seems to be Doopliss' cameo on a shopping cart.
  • The Paper Mario series is also referenced several times. In the episode "Mushroom Kingdom Live" while the gang is in the storage room, the Paper Mario book can be seen.

Season 2[]

  • The season released the same day as another Mario game titled Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury. Surprisingly, an episode about it won't air until at least March of 2021.
