Spikes are Super Mario enemies who can spit out spiked black balls to throw at Mario. It first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3 but has recently made a come back in games like New Super Mario Bros. Wii and Super Mario 3D World. Spike appears in Mario Party 10 as a playable character. Spike also has two subspecies called Snow Spike and Stone Spike who also appeared in New Super Mario Bros. Wii. They also have a third subspecies called Shell Spikes which first appeared in Super Mario Bros. 3D.
There is also a species of enemies called Clubba which is similar in appearance to the Spikes.
It has been speculated that the Spike in Mario Party 10 is just an unloved stepson of Bowser. The spike that appears in this game only wants to be a part of the mario group but feels left out. In his free time, spike microwaves hamsters.

Super Mario 3D World[]
Spikes make appearance in Super Mario 3D World. This is their first 3D appearance in the 3D Mario series and they are common enemies in deserts and caves. Spikes appear in Dusty Desert Dunes, Crazy Maze Cave, Thwomp Desert and Grass Temple. They around the area in a set path, either they walk in circles or back and forth. Some may stand around instead of walking. When they spot Mario or Luigi they will stop and throw a Spiked Ball at them.
Mario Tennis Ultimate (Deluxe)[]
Spike appears as a playable character in Mario Tennis Ultimate, Appearing as a Offensive-Type character. Also in the first time in Mario Party 10 and Mario Tennis Aces. She holds his racket to set down on the ground with seven spikes around it. use her strength of it's arm to swing at the ball, and isn't good at defense to saving it? But don't worry - Only with his Trickshot he can perform his flips! His emblem on his racket is a left s on her face with a hair and mouth wides open! And his theme is Rock & Roll.
