"Sonic's friends have all gone missing! Hot on the trail, Sonic tracks them down to Dr. Eggman's newest nefarious creation: The Warped Generator, a machine capable of trapping Sonic in a virtual prison generated by the subconscious minds of his captured friends! Now Sonic must get inside the heads of each of his allies to save both them and himself from Dr. Eggman's fiendish designs!"

Sonic the Hedgehog: Warp Tour is a 2D platformer in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchinse, sharing similar physics to the Genesis Sonic titles and Sonic Mania. What distinguishes Sonic the Hedgehog: Warp Tour from other 2D games in the series is the bevy of playable characters and stages that are present in, and can be added to, the game.

Structure[]

Sonic the Hedgehog: Warp Tour takes place primarily in Dr. Eggman's Warped Generator, a gigantic simulator that generates dangerous environments based on the minds of Sonic's friends, who are hooked up unconscious to the machine in special pods. Sonic must reach the end of these generated environments, which consist of a single two-act zone and a boss encounter, in order to reawaken and save his friends.

Sonic isn't the only hero this time, however. Through various means, you can unlock a plethora of additional playable characters, each of which has their own special abilities. Once you unlock a character, their associated zone will also be available to play through. The more characters you unlock, not only do you expand the way the game can be played, but you also expand the content of the game. You can even unlock playable villains like Zavok, Metal Sonic, and even Dr. Eggman himself, as well as their twisted inner worlds.

Each run through the game is known as a "Tour", which consists of a collection of zones and bosses to traverse. There are quite a few different types of Tours. You can also modify tours with "Conditions", which can serve to alter basic conditions and rules and other aspects of gameplay.

Characters also have the ability to access Special Stages and secure the seven Chaos Emeralds while out on a tour. Some characters even have Super forms that will be unlocked once they secure all the Emeralds. Other distractions include the Chao Garden, where he player can unwind between levels, and the Gacha Machine, where players can spend the Rings collected at the end of each act or boss encounter on an assortment of randomized prizes.

Sonic the Hedgehog: Warp Tour is primarily intended to be played repeatedly in shorter sessions. The more you play, the more content you unlock, and the richer the game becomes.

Modes[]

Sonic the Hedgehog: Warp Tour has several different kinds of modes that are available for play.

First Tour[]

First Tour is the only mode available to the player at first. It is a single-player campaign centered around going through Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles, Cream, Metal Sonic, and Dr. Eggman's stages. Unique to this mode is a short introductory zone, Egg Island Zone, which serves as a basic tutorial to the game's basic gameplay and mechanics.

First Tour completely lacks Special Stages.

First Tour must be completed at least once in order to access any other modes.

Custom Tour[]

Arguably the main mode of the game. Custom Tours allow you to choose which unlocked zones you traverse in any order that you please, playing as any available unlocked character. Each Custom Tour can be three to nine zones in length. At the end of each Custom Tour is a final zone, Simulacrum Citadel Zone, which must be beaten to conclude the tour. Simulacrum Citadel Zone has three possible layouts for all of its acts and three possible incarnations of its boss, all of which depends on the average difficulty of the zones you selected for the Custom Tour.

Characters can also collect Chaos Emeralds in Custom Tours. Once a character has collected a Chaos Emerald in Custom Tours, that character retains it permanently through repeat runs through Custom Tours. Once a character collects all seven Chaos Emeralds in Custom Tours, they may access their Super form at any time if a Super form is available to them.

Custom Tour is unlocked upon completing First Tour at least once.

Time Attack[]

Time Attack allows you to select any character you'd like and run them through any act of any zone you've unlocked, including Boss Acts. Attempt to get to the goal as fast as possible! Each act in Time Attack mode has a target time that the player is challenged to beat with any character they want. Players can also submit their times to a worldwide leaderboard, which sorts times by fastest overall and also by individual characters.

Characters cannot enter into Special Stages or change into their Super forms in Time Attack Mode.

Time Attack is unlocked upon completing First Tour at least once.

Boss Gauntlet[]

In this mode, the player selects a character and takes on all the bosses of all the zones they have currently unlocked. Ends with the most difficult incarnation of Simulacrum Citadel Zone's boss. Takes place in a unique environment, Boss Gauntlet Zone, and is intended to be a follow-up to the stories of Custom Tours, in which the character attempts to flee Eggman's collapsing Warped Generator while Eggman attempts to hinder their progress with his boss machines.

Characters do not possess Chaos Emeralds and therefore cannot change into their Super forms in the Boss Gauntlet.

Boss Gauntlet is unlocked once the player unlocks at least ten different playable characters.

World Tour[]

The player selects a character and runs through all the zones that they have currently unlocked. At the end of this tour, the player must make it though Simulacrum Citadel Zone's most difficult incarnation. Futhermore, if all seven Chaos Emeralds are gathered over the course of a World Tour and the playable character has access to a Super form, a final additional zone, Shattered Reality Zone, takes place, an epic final confrontation between Dr. Eggman's ultimate reality-bending machine and the playable character in their Super form.

Unlike Custom Tours, all characters start with no Chaos Emeralds at the beginning of each World Tour, even if that same character has collected Emeralds during a previous World Tour. It's up to the player to try and gather all seven Chaos Emeralds through each run of a World Tour.

World Tour is unlocked once the player unlocks at least fifteen different playable characters.

Gacha Machine & Collectibles[]

The Gacha Machine is the place to spend any hard-earned Rings that you manage to hold onto by the end of each zone or boss encounter. Each try of the Gacha Machine costs at least 50 Rings, and the resulting prizes fall into one of three categories: Characters, Collectible Cards, and Music. If a Collectable Card or Music prize has been previously acquired, the player will be refunded 25 Rings. The player can also increase their odds of winning previously-unacquired Collectible Cards or Music prizes by increasing the amount of Rings they feed into a try of the Gacha Machine, in 25-Ring increments. This maxes out at 500 Rings for a 50% chance at a new prize.

Characters[]

Certain playable characters are unlocked via the Gacha Machine. The odds of acquiring new playable characters are significantly higher than that of other prizes, and once a character has been won from the Gacha Machine, you won't be able to acquire them again.

Unlockable characters include:
