The Slender Man (also known as Slenderman) is a supernatural creature with nebulously defined characteristics and abilities. Slender Man was first mentioned in Something Awful Forum's "Create Paranormal Images". Slender Man generally appears (in modern times) as a tall man in a black or grey suit, red or black tie, and white shirt, with no eyes, mouth, or clearly defined facial features. It has no hair, and generally has normal-looking bare hands, albeit with fingers longer and bonier than a typical human. Slender Man is typically depicted in imagery and literature as between 6 and 15 feet tall, depending on the situation, and in video as around 6-7 feet tall. Because of its inexact nature, and differences between series, no one has yet determined what it is. Currently, the two leading theories as to what the Slender Man may be are the Tulpa Effect and Quantum Theory.

The internet popularity of Slender Man has spawned a massive amount of interconnected ARGs, collectively known as the Slender Man Mythos.

Dark Woods

The Slender Men appear as a species in the Dark Woods series and are confirmed not to be the actual Slender Man from the mythos itself. In the Dark Woods series they are called entities that originate from the Dark Woods and have the ability to walk between the two dimensions. When a child goes missing they usually are spirited away to the Dark Woods.

Dark Woods: Hollow Remnants

In Dark Woods: Hollow Remnants the Slender Man appear as the main threat in Hein's town. There have been reports of missing children all over town and nobody seemed to know why. Hein and Dizzy quickly discover that the Slender Man species are behind this. They fight and defeat several Slender Man but come to the conclusion that they are mere puppets controlled by a higher entity. At the end of Volume 2 they discover a Slender Man dressed as Pan controls them, after defeat it the Slender Man stopped appearing in town.

It was later uncovered that Pan was using the Slender Man to lure the Lilith to the Dark Woods for the plan of achieving Nova powers.

Dark Woods III: The Plague Returns

In Dark Woods III: The Plague Returns a sole, but apparently much stronger, Slender Man appears as a secret boss in the game. Throughout the game there are 8 pages that can be collected. When putting the pieces together (each page has a number) they form a map. The map then leads you to a secret spot where the Slender Man is resting. After defeating him Ligeia is granted with the Slender Tentacles.
