Skarmory, known in Japan as エアームド (Airmd), is a Steel/Flying-type Pokémon. It's not known to evolve from or to any other Pokémon.

Biology[]

Skarmory is a large, avian Pokémon, completely clad in a light, white-silver plated armor. Its neck is partly covered in a dark blue-gray, segmented armor, and its talons and tail are of this same color. The front of its head is covered with a beak-like helmet, with a triangular crest on top. Its eyeballs are yellow and its lower jaw contains serrated teeth. Each of its wings consist of four blade-like feathers, three of which have its underside covered in red. These feathers can move independently. Its tail is a blade that has a hooked end and contains a gap on the lower half. Its talons are decorated with sharp, silvern claws on each toe.

Its wings are actually quite hollow, and because of this, Skarmory can easily fly up to 300 km/h, or 180 mph. Since its wings are blade-like, it can use these against foes by slashing them fiercely. Every now and then, Skarmory may lose one of its feathers. In the past, blacksmiths that found these feathers made swords and knives out of them. Eventually, Skarmory's armored wings will become tattered and crushed due to many repeated fights. However, the battered wings will eventually grow back in mint condition once a year. Skarmory usually nests in bramble bushes, so its chicks' wings will grow hard and strong from the thorn scratches they eventually get.

Trivia[]

Origin[]

Skarmory has shares much in common with an Andean condor, and also shares several characteristics with the Pteranodon and the crane. It may also be based on several metallic birds from mythologies, like Stymphalian birds, the Gagana and the Alicanto.

Name Origin[]

Skarmory is a combination of sky and either armory or armor. It may also include scar.
