Punch Out Tsugi is another Punch out game developed by Next Level Games after the overall good reception to Punch Out Wii. The game Punch Out Tsugi was well recieved despite not having any new Characters. It was exlusive to the Nintendo Tsugi, but after the console was cancelled, it was decided it would be ported to another system instead.

Story[]

The story is the same as it has ben in most other Punch Out games. Little Mac is competing for the champion title and he must defeat all of the boxers in the Minor, Major, and World Circuits so that you can rise to the top and be the best boxer ever!

Bear Hugger's special move, you says"Need A Hug?" then smash your hands together where the opponent would be if he did not move. This attack can not be dodged, it can only be ducked. If they get hit they immediately are knocked down, but if they hit you, you will fall down giving them more attack opprotunities.

How to Preform: Turn the joy cons so the scanners face each other

How to Unlock: Beat Bear Hugger

You pull out a bottle of soda and drink some of it, refilling your stamina by 1/4. The bottle can be punched out of your hand before you drink, stopping the move and engaging Soda Fury.

How to Preform: Make a drinking motion with one of the joycons.

How to Unlock: Beat Soda Popinski

You use this move when your soda bottle is knocked out of your hand. You throws three to four uppercuts quickly, and then become vulnurable. It takes 5 hits to knock the opponent down from full stamina.

How to Preform: This move is activated when your oppnent knocks your bottle out of your hand.

Gameplay[]

The gameplay is similar to previous Punch Out games and has 3 Cicuits, the first 2 having 4 opponents, and the last one having 5. The head-to-head mode returns, along with a new feature, combos. These combos use the stick in combonation with A, B, X, and Y to let loose stronger attacks. You can also choose motion controls where you preform the move, like jabbing by quickly moving the controller forward, then moving back.

Doc Louis: Little Mac's trainer and ex-heavyweight boxing champion. Loves chocolate bars and makes bad jokes.

Glass Joe[]

Glass Joe is the first fighter of the game and is nicknamed "France's Glass Jaw". He is the easiest opponent and his win record is 1-99 having accidentally won against Nick Brusier once. His intro theme is the national anthem of France, La Marseillaise.

Left Jab Right Hook Taunt Punch Right-Left Hook

Easily telegraphed, and can be dodged on any side and ducked. Takes roughly 6 to knock Little Mac down from full stamina.

Winds up on the left before dealing a hook on the right. Can be dodged on any side and ducked. Takes about 8 to knock Little Mac down from full stamina. Steps back, taunts Mac, then throws a hook. Can only be ducked. Takes approximately 2 to knock Little Mac down from full stamina. If you hit him with a jab as he is about to throw a hook, Glass Joe is instantly defeated.

Piston Hurricane[]

Piston Hurricane is the second opponent you face and is "The Hurricane". He can be difficult but is overall pretty easy to defeat. His record is 21-10. His intro theme is the national anthem of Cuba, La Bayamesa.

Jab Hurricane Hook Taunt Jab Hurricane Rush
Is the same on either side and can be dodged on any side, but has less rection time then Glass Joe's. Takes roughly 5 to knock Little Mac down from full stamina. Winds up in the middle and deals a hook on the left and then another hook on the right, this flips every other time it is used. Takes about 6 to knock Little Mac down from full stamina. Steps back, taunts Little Mac, then jabs right, this alternates every time it is used. The direction you can dodge switches every time starting at left. It takes approximately 2 to knock Little Mac down from full stamina. If you hook as he is about to jab, he will take one fourth of his health worth of damage. Steps back, taunts Little Mac, then rushes forward, if they do not jab, insta-defeating Piston Hurricane, Piston Hurricane will throw alternating jabs, starting with a head jab, then a body jab, and repeats that head-body jab combo twice more. You can only duck for the head jabs, and you can dodge left or right for the body jabs. It takes just one full run of this move, getting hit by every punch, to knock Little Mac down from full stamina.

Von Kaiser[]

Von Kaiser is the third opponent of the Minor circuit and is nicknamed "The German Steel Machine". He is closer to the middle in terms of difficulty in Punch Out Tsugi. His record is 24-11. His intro theme is the opening to Ride of the Valkyries.

Right Uppercut Fake Left Uppercut Taunt German Steel The Kaiser Bomb

Bends to the right, cocks his head, then punches. This attack is impossible to block, but can be dodged in every direction. It takes about 6 hits to knock down Mac from full stamina.

Bends to the left, cocks his head then stops and body jabs forward. Can only be blocked. It takes roughly 5 hits to knock down Mac from full stamina. Steps back, taunts Little Mac, then runs forward to punch Little Mac super hard. It takes 3 hits to knock Little Mac down from full stamina. If you jab him as soon as he is about to hit you, he loses half of his stamina. Steps back, taunts Little Mac, then spins around and punches from the right or the left, which will be shown by a cookoo bird flying from the opposite direction that he will hit you from. It has a slow build-up, but will knock you down from full stamina instantly. If you can dodge from the opposite direction of the punch (if he punches left you dodge right) he will be stunned for half a second, and if you hit him in that time, he will be defeated instantly.

King Hippo[]

King Hippo is the champion of the Minor Circuit and not much is actually know about him, except that he is from the South Pacific. He is just below the true middle in terms of difficulty. His record is 21-9. He does not have an opening theme.

Jab Raise Punch Open-Mouthed Overhead Duck 'n Raise Punch
King Hippo raises his fist over his mouth, then punches. This attacks can be dodged in every direction and ducked, but cannot be blocked. It takes close to 5 hits to knock down Little Mac from full stamina. King Hippo raises his fist then punches for more damage. It can only be dodged, but it can be dodged in any direction. I takes 4 hits to knock Little Mac down from full stamina. King Hippo opens his mouth, then shouts at Little Mac, raises his fist, then throws a very poweful punch. If Little Mac hits King Hippo while his mouth is open he is stunned and can be hit with a chain of up to 6 body blows. It can be ducked. It takes about 3 hits to knock down Mac from full stamina.

King Hippo ducks and shelters his head behind his arms to block any and all jabs, then he will raise his fist, growl, charge, then punch. You can duck this move. If you hit him while he is raising his fist, he will be instantly defeated, but if you get hit, you are immediately knocked down.

Major Circuit[]

Dragon Chan[]

Dragon Chan is the first opponent of the Major Circuit and uses illegal moves. He is from China. He is a true middle difficulty. His record is 15-7. His intro theme is Oriental Music.

Jab Slap Punch Kick Flurry Swinging Kick
Dragon Chan will jab forward at the player, this can be dodged and blocked, but not ducked. It takes approximately 7 hits from this attack to knock Little Mac down from full stamina. Dragon Chan will attempt to slap the player in the face, this can dodged, ducked, and blocked. If you jab him in the face as he tries to hit you, he will be stunned. It takes 5 hits to knock Mac down from full stamina. Dragon Chan kicks at the player 3 times but can be dodged easily because there is a 1 second delay between each kick and it can be dodged, or blocked. Each kick takes 1/8 of Mac health. Dragon Chan will flex his leg, then runs forward, waits, and then twirls, instantly knocking down Little Mac if contact is made. If Little Mac attacks Dragon Chan after running up, but before he twirls, Dragon Chan is instantly defeated.

Bob Charlie[]

Bob Charlie is the second opponent you face in the Major Circuit and is from Jamaica. He is another true middle opponent. His record is 26-12. His intro theme is some drums playing his 1-1-2-3 attack rhythm.

Semi-short reaction time, and can be dodged only on the right side and ducked. Takes roughly 4 to knock Little Mac down from full stamina. Semi-short reaction time, and can be dodged only on the left side and ducked. Takes roughly 4 to knock Little Mac down from full stamina. Ducks, bobs his head, then punches. This attack is impossible to block, and can only be ducked. It takes about 3 hits to knock down Mac from full stamina. Bob Charlie steps back dances around, shouts Woo! a few times then runs forward at the opponent and lands a windmill uppercut knocking out Little Mac immediately upon contact. Can be ducked. You can hit him in between the time when he comes next to you and the time when he windmill uppercuts you and he will be defeated instantly

Bear Hugger[]

Bear Hugger is the third opponent you face in the Major Circuit and is from Canada. He is the last true middle difficulty opponent. His record is 29-11. His intro is the national anthem of Canada. When you hit his stomach he will stick his tongue out, wiggle, and you will not deal damage with that attack.

Left Hook Overhead Smash "Let's Dance!" Taunt Bear Hug
Bear Hugger will throw a left hook with a fairly shot reaction time, and it can be dodged only on the right. It takes close to 7 hits to knock Little Mac down from full stamina. A delayed overhead smash from Bear Hugger's right hand, it takes a while to land, but when it hits it deals a lot of damage. It can only be dodged. It takes 3 hits to knock Mac down from full stamina Bear Hugger steps back, shouts "Let's Dance" and swings his belly around then comes back to the fight. Bear Hugger's special move, he says "Need A Hug?" then smashes his hands together where Little Mac would be if he did not move. This attack can not be dodged, it can only be ducked. If you get hit you immediately are knocked down, but if you hit him he will fall down giving you more attack opprotunities.

Don Flamenco[]

Don Flamenco is your final challenge in the Major Circuit, and is one of the few opponents in the game with 5 moves, creating a difficulty jump that some players have disliked, but, over time it grew on people, but is still a speedrunner's nightmare. He is the first medium-hard opponent in the game. His record is 22-3. His intro is is an excerpt from the Overture of Bizet's opera Carmen.

Don Flamenco will jab forward at the player, this can be dodged and blocked, but not ducked. It takes approximately 6 hits from this attack to knock Little Mac down from full stamina. Ducks, then punches. This attack is impossible to block, and can only be ducked. It takes about 3 hits to knock down Mac from full stamina. Don Flamenco will throw a right hook with a fairly shot reaction time, and it can only be dodged on the right or be ducked. It takes close to 7 hits to knock Little Mac down from full stamina. Don Flamenco throws 3 hooks from the left and has a midly short reaction time, and can only be dodged on the left. It takes 7 of the individual hooks (not the full move) to knock Little Mac down from full stamina. Don Flamenco will start to throw an uppercut, but will then stop for a second, and then proceeds to uppercut. This can only be ducked, but if you hit him while he is stalling, he will be knocked down (not defeated but knocked down). It takes 3 of these uppercuts to knock Little Mac down from full stamina.

World Circuit[]

Soda Popinski[]

Soda Popinski is the first opponent of the World Circuit and has 4 moves, but he keeps the medium-hard difficulty by having a way to regain health in the middle of the battle. His record is 33-2. The theme music played for Soda Popinski is a quote from The Volga Boatmen's Song, a Russian folk song.

Ducks, then punches. This attack can be dodged, blocked , and ducked. It takes about 3 hits to knock down Mac from full stamina. Soda Popinski will sidestep, then throw a left hook with a fairly shot reaction time, and it can be dodged only on the left. It takes close to 7 hits to knock Little Mac down from full stamina. Popinski pulls out a bottle of soda and drinks some of it, refilling his stamina by 1/4. The bottle can be punched out of his hand before he drinks, stopping the move and engaging Soda Fury. Soda uses this move when his soda bottle is knocked out of his hand. He throws three to four uppercuts quickly, and then becomes vulnurable. It takes 5 hits to knock Mac down from full stamina.

Aran Ryan[]

Aran Ryan is the second opponent in the World Circuit and is a big step up in terms of difficulty from Soda Popinski by being the only character with 6 moves. His record is 35-10.

Overhand Hook Uppercut Counter-Uppercuts Taunt Headbutt
Aran Ryan comes from the center, winds up his right fist, and then uses  an overhead punch, this can only be blocked. It takes 5 hits to knock Little Mac down from full stamina Aran Ryan will throw a right hook with a fairly shot reaction time, and it can only be dodged on the right or be ducked. It takes close to 7 hits to knock Little Mac down from full stamina. Ducks, then punches. This attack can be dodged, blocked, and ducked. It takes about 3 hits to knock down Mac from full stamina. Aran Ryan will attack twice, once from each direction. This move is only used after you hit Aran Ryan, and it can only be dodged. It takes 3 individual punches to knock Mac down from full stamina. Stops to wipe his nose before taunting Little Mac, telling him to "Come at Him". If the player hits Aran Ryan as soon as he finishes wiping his nose he will be defeated. Aran jumps back to the ropes in the back of the ring, then launches at the player with a headbutt. This can only be blocked or dodged. It takes 2 hits from this attack to knock Little Mac down from full stamina.

Mad Clown[]

Mad Clown is the third opponent you face in the World Circuit, he is a large step down in difficulty, giving the player a break before they fight the last two opponents, so he is a medium-difficult opponent, and he only has 4 attacks. His record is 17-9.

Hook Jab Juggle Clown Hook
Mad Clown will throw a left hook with a fairly shot reaction time, and it can only be dodged on the left or be ducked. It takes close to 7 hits to knock Little Mac down from full stamina. Mad Clown will jab forward at the player, this can be dodged and blocked, but not ducked. It takes approximately 4 hits from this attack to knock Little Mac down from full stamina. Mad Clown will juggle 6 balls and then throw two of them at the player, it can be ducked but not dodged. It take about 12 individual hits from one of the juggling balls to knock Little Mac down from full stamina. Mad Clown will start to do an uppercut wait a second, then do a fake uppercut, and then will finally throw a backhand hook, which alternates sides starting on right, and can only be dodged on the sam side as he is punching from. It takes 5 hits to knock Mac down from full health.

Donkey Kong[]

Donkey Kong is the fourth and final fight before the champion and his difficulty depends on how quick you can knock him down, he only has 3 attacks, but hits like a truck. His record is 9-1

Taunt Overhead Smash Double-Handed Leap
Donkey Kong steps back, taunts Little Mac by either: sticking his tongue out, eating a banana and throwing the peel behind him, or danching around, then Donkey Kong will step back into the battle. You can knock down Donkey Kong if you hit him as he comes back into battle (not defeat, just knock down). Donkey Kong will raise his huge hists, twirl them for a half second, then smash them down right in the middle of the stage, this move can only be dodged left or right. You can knock down Donkey Kong if you uppercut him as he is twirling his fists. This move will knock down Little Mac with just one hit. Donkey Kong will ready himself, and will then leap high and crash his fists on to the ground knocking Mac down immediately if he does not dodge left or right. You can defeat Donkey Kong immediately if you uppercut as he is slamming downwards.


Mr. Sandman[]

Mr Sandman is the holder of the Champion Belt and the Champion Title and was by far the hardest opponent in the game, until it was discovered that there is a short moment, near the beginning of the match where a caamera would flash and if you used a combo at that exact moment, he would be defeated. His record is 31-0.

Mr. Sandman will jab forward at the player, this can be dodged and blocked, but not ducked. It takes approximately 3 hits from this attack to knock Little Mac down from full stamina. An overhead smash from Mr. Sandman's left hand, it takes a while to land, but when it hits it deals a lot of damage. It can only be dodged. It takes 2 hits to knock Mac down from full stamina A delayed overhead smash from Mr. Sandman's right hand, it takes a while to land, but when it hits it deals a lot of damage. It can only be ducked or dodged. It takes 2 hits to knock Mac down from full stamina Mr. Sandman will dodge to the left and will pause a second, then smash to the left across the stage, you can only safely dodge to the right. It takes two hits from this move to knock Mac down from full stamina. Mr. Sandman's special move. Mr. Sandman will step back, shout "Afraid!?", then comes back, winds up, then lets loose 3 consecutive punches which you can only dodge from the same direction they are coming from. This move take 4 individual punches to knock down Little Mac.
