Developers who worked on it were quoted saying "Pokemon Emerald was less than eight megabites in size. For PS2 games, 2GB is considered small. So we're making this Pokemon Emerald remake with at least 2GB of content, no matter what!"

Emerald Fakemon Contest[]

Following the game's initial announcement in 2014, a Fakemon contest was announced, where countless fans from all over the world could compete and submit their fakemon designs until a year before the final game's release. The winners would have their designs made into an official Nintendo game. This one, to be precise. And there were no limits on how many fakemon you could submit, or on who could submit.

Arceus Engine[]

Built-in world creation tools were built into the game to allow anyone with a copy of the game to change their region however they saw fit after catching Arceus. Now players from all over the world can design their own challenges, their own NPCs, and their own regions and stories! With a functional internet connection and a copy of the game to publish their creations online in an environment that legally cannot be C+D'd, making your own authentic Pokemon fangame has never been easier.

Controversy[]

One entrant in the Fakemon Design Contest submitted the same design over 400 times using numerous incorrect addresses and alternative accounts. He did not win, and released a youtube video calling the whole thing rigged.

Some parents made inappropriate things with their Arceus Engine world creators, before complaining on Youtube about the abundance of content inappropriate for children on the net, even though the Arceus Engine has a system where you can rate your own content or vote to increase the rating of someone else's content. This helped keep fanmade games full of age-inappropriate content out of the hands of children.

This game was banned in China because people kept putting Tiananmen Square jokes into their original regions. A version without the world creation feature was re-released in China for double the price, only for an easy hack to bring the world creation feature back.

The redesigned Jynx was a blue-skinned yeti girl with white and blue fur. Her excessively appealing design made Lola Bunny's design in Space Jam seem downright tame. Smoochum was also renamed Snowchum and redesigned as a white furry snowball-shaped furball with blue lips and big eyes. Twitter servers, Gab servers, and Youtube servers crashed for over fourteen hours upon trying to process the sheer number of Jynx-related posts. Snowchum was rarely if ever mentioned. Twitter could only keep its servers online for more than a few minutes by automatically shadowbanning any who mentioned Jynx, and permabanning those who mentioned her too often.
