Pokémon Myth and Legend is an upcoming Pokémon series title and will be the second Pokémon game to appear on the Nintendo Switch platform. Much like in previous Pokémon games, players set off on a journey to meet and capture exciting new Pokémon, battle other Pokémon trainers, forge relationships, and ultimately become the greatest Pokémon champion.

Pokémon Myth and Legend is set within the historical Prottos region where players will dive into not only the region’s history but the history of humanity and Pokémon from when it began! Not to mention the player will become embroiled within a regional conflict between two majors competing powers: the city-states of Irinni and Dynammi. Pokémon Myth and Legend will be made available on the Nintendo Switch in both physical and digital copies. It will available be available in English, Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, and Italian. It will also be available for the first time in Greek, Portuguese, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish, Russian, Mongol, Hindi, Arabic, Vietnamese, and Thai.

New Features

There will be a number of entirely new features that will be brought to the Pokémon series introduced in Myth and Legend. Many of these new features are unique to Myth and Legend.

Time Travel: One of the most unique aspects of Myth and Legend is the ability to time travel to different eras. Time travel is possible using the "time shards" which are portions of an unknown material which can transport anyone holding it into a particular space in time. For more information on time-traveling and the time shards, please see the Time Travel section.

Ages in Time: Players can use Time Shards to visit different ages in time. Each age has its own characteristics and environment. Players can visit ages to perform certain tasks, catch different Pokémon, and learn about the history of the Pokémon world. However, unlike within the Modern Age (the current setting), they can freely explore the world and are confined to the general area where the player visited. In addition, it is impossible to visit all the ages within a general area. One particular area may allow visits to between 1 and 5 ages. For more information, please see the Time Ages section.

New Type: Divine:

Divine
Myth and Legend introduces an entirely new type called Divine. This type tends to be reserved for Pokémon who are angelic or of celestial design such as Cresselia and Arceus. Divine typing is unique as it has no strengths of weaknesses to other types. Instead, the Divine type powers up the primary or secondary non-Divine type. This means that a Divine/Fire dual-typing does 4x more damage to Grass, Bug, and Ice but also takes 4x damage from Water, Ground, and Rock. Various Pokémon such as Arceus is retyped to Divine/Normal, Cressellia is retyped to Psychic/Divine. Others include Milotic being Water/Divine and the Chansey line being retyped to Normal/Divine.

Ancestor Forms: Ancestor Forms are the forms of Pokémon found within the current Modern Age which had adapted to live in older Ages. This adaption led to Pokémon having different moves, different abilities, and even different types. In fact, players can transport themselves to the Ancient Age where dinosaur-like Pokémon roamed to find the living breathing fossil Pokémon from previous games such as Kabuto and Kabutops who not gains a new aility but becomes a Water and Bug type instead of Rock and Water typing. For more information regarding Ancestor Forms, please read the Ancestor Forms section.

Over 75 new Pokémon: It wouldn't be a Pokémon game with entirely new Pokémon! There will be over 75 new Pokémon that can be obtained within the Prottos Region as well as within its past! For more information on the new Pokémon, please read the New Pokémon section.

New Characters: Entirely new (and maybe returning) faces pop up while traveling Prottos! The region itself is composed of any cultures with a rich traditional history so make sure you get to know the locals! To learn more about the new characters, please go to the New Characters section.

Prottos Region: Players can explore the expansive Prottos Region! The Prottos Region is governed by eight city-states with Irinni and Dynammi making the two strongest powers. Each city-state has its own unique culture, power, and value within Prottos. For example, the city-state Dynammi focuses on a strong military, Irinni focuses on research and philosophy, Plosious focuses on its commercial power, and Oreino focuses on agriculture production. In addition to the city-states, smaller villages and towns lie on the outskirts. For more information on the Prottos Region, please go to the Prottos Region section.

Oracles: In Pokémon games leading up to Pokémon X & Y, players did battle against Gym Leaders and in Pokémon Sun & Moon, players participated in Captain trials and faced the four Kahunas. Instead, players face off against 8 Oracles who hold power within the eight city-states. They are found on the highest location of the city-state called an Acropolis. There the Oracle issues quests needed to complete in order to defeat them. For more information on the Oracle and Acropolis system, please read about it in its own section.

PokéPad: The PokéPad is a device used by trainers in the Prottos Region. This convenient device tracks your trainer information such as your Pokémon team, Pokédex, your items, and more. It functions much like the numerous devices that has appeared in Pokémon though with a few unique additions. In particular, players can use it to download Apps. These apps includes a music player to play music as you travel, an in-game social networking app with other characters, a map system, and an online store app. These can be added and removed with a total of ten available at one time. A more extensive list will be revealed at a later time.

Reward System: Typically, players received monetary rewards in the form of G for winning battles against opponents. A new and revamped reward system will give out monetary rewards but, on occassion, players are given the choice to pick the reward which ranges from:

  • Items: Potions, Pokéballs, Status-effect items, Repels, etc
  • Berries
  • Held Items
  • Academy Points: used to purchase items from the academy Store for your dorm room
  • Accessories: Includes clothing, gloves, watches, hats, earring, etc
  • Network Points: These Points Unlocks new content and additions onto your PokéPad.

New Moves and Abilities: Like in any Pokémon game, players can discover new abilities and moves. Certain Ancestor Pokémon will gain new moves and abilities as well. To read more about the new abilities, please read the New Ability section. For more information on new moves, please read the New Moves section.

Improved Graphics: This is the first main series Pokémon game to be featured on a console. The game boasts impressive graphics in comparison to previous Pokémon games but the team still focused on keeping them in-line with previous installments.

Home Base: Bases return but with a slight twist. Bases consist of only one and it’s the pluer’s Dorm room at the Prottos Academy in Kentro City. Here, players can use items to customize their space to their liking. The Dorm is a fast travel option.

Cooking: Cooking returns from Pokémon Sword and Shield though instead, players can make Yogurt. Yogurt can be either used to make yogurt recipes or yogurt meals. Yogurt Recipes have a minimal effect on them Pokemon and requires very little ingredients while Yogurt Meals requires more ingredients but has a greater effect. Recipes can be purchased in stores, learned in a book, or rewarded by defeating a Chef trainer class.

Pokélympics: One of the oldest sporting events in the world, the Pokélympics is a multi sporting event invoking Pokémon and trainers from all around the world. Here, they demonstrate their abilities and strength in a multitude of competitions to gain the Gold Medal!

Conditioning: Conditioning is a new gameplay feature where players can send their Pokémon to one of the many Training Gyms in a city. There, they can work on various exercise regiments to increase their strength, dexterity, speed, endurance, and reaction time.

PokéPlay: PokéPlay is a new gameplay mechanic where, at parks, fields, or other designated areas, you can play with your Pokémon using various games and activities such as frisbees, sticks, obstacle courses, bathing, and more. This not only improves the quality and happiness of your Pokémon but increases the bond and friendship between you and the Pokémon!

Prologue: Welcome to Prottos, Whipper-Snapper <br

Professor Fir: “Hello there, wary trainer from a foreign land. Welcome to the grand Prottos region.”

Professor Cypress: “I am Professor Cypress and this bag of potatoes if Professor Fir. We are the two professors in the Prottos Region.”
Professor Fir: “Strange, we know but it works better this way. So Trainer, what name do you go by?”

Input name and gender (Male, Female, Non-Binary)

Professor Fir: “Splendid! Nice to meet you trainer’s name!”
Professor Cypress: “Yeah yeah let’s get this show on the road! You’re journey awaits or something.”

Chapter 1: Starting Out

The player first arrives walking into Kentro City and makes their way to the looking Prottos Academy. This is all done in first person view, a new camera ability in Myth and Legend. Once inside, Professor Fir and Professor Cypress walls out to greets them. Professor Fir: “Hello there, wary trainer from a foreign land. Welcome to the grand Prottos region.”
Professor Cypress: “Oh put a sock in it. This whipper-snapper doesn’t want to heat your long winded grandstanding.”
Professor Fir: “Well, not everyone enjoys your brand of rudeness, Professor Cypress. Need I remind you we both agreed to this?”
Professor Cypress: “Bah, all you Irinni people do is think and think yet no action!”
Professor Fir: “And people of Dynammi would have us jump back into a civil war just for fun. I digress though. Here we are arguing and this poor trainer has no inclination of what we are discussing about.”
Professor Cypress: “Oh yeah, I forgot we had a new trainer coming from....where are you from again?”
Trainer Character:
Kanto
Johto
Hoenn
Sinnoh
Unova
Kalos
Alola
Galar
Kanto - Professor Cypress: “Ah Kanto. I suppose you know Professor Oak then? Me and him are war buddies, you know? He might not look it but he was a literal artist on the battlefield! I suppose he has grown soft in his old age.”
Johto - Professor Fir: “Professor Elm might not look it but he is a fierce researcher. He could research, write, and publish his findings within a fortnight! He is considered the lead expert on breeding in Pokémon. Johto is truly a gem and I admire the cultural and historical importance of the region.”
Professor Birch - Professor Cypress: “Heh heh. Professor Birch or, as I like to say, Professor Pork. I guess his girth is good comparison on his knowledge of Pokémon habitats. He has published dozens of books on the subject. Too bad he doesn’t burn calories while writing. We aren’t as hot as Hoenn but maybe that’s good news for you.”
Shinnoh - Professor Fir: “Professor Rowan is as picky as he is smart. He possesses keen knowledge on Pokémon evolution and even outranks our prestigious Professor Oak. He is the master of Pokémon evolutions. We don’t get much snow save for up in the mountains. I’m sure you will fit well there.”
Unova - Professor Cypress: “Eh, Unova is all fluff and no substance. Those neon signs and crowds give me headaches. Professor Juniper is quite the looker, huh heh heh. She is a trail blazer in the world of Pokémon research. I like reading her writings on Pokémon origins.”
Kalos -Professor Fir: “Ah Kalos. It’s the fashion capital of the world. It’s a truly remarkable and lovely region. Especially the castles. I could walk the streets of Kalos for weeks. Professor Sycamore may seem young but he is truly remarkable. Especially in regards to his Mega Evolution research. It’s because of him that we know so much about it!”
Alola - Professor Cypress: “Why did you leave? I heard the Alola Islands where pretty something! Blue waters, sandy shores, gorgeous weather! I might just go retire there bwahaha! I heard that kid Kikui is the professor there. He knows a thing or two about Pokémon attacks. I have never met him but I think we can get along just fine!”
Galar - Professor Fir: “You know, I’m actually a close friend of Professor Magnolia. We have collaborated with each other several times! She was the one who first published about the Dynnamax phenomenon! The Galar Region has had such an influence in the world! I’m glad we have someone like you here!”
Once a location is chosen, the player can choose to either head to Irinni with Professor Fir or Dynammi with Professor Cypress
Professor Fir: “Spectacular! We have some things to take care of but our assistant, Magnus help you. You will be lodging at the Academy where you will learn the basics of Pokémon training and battling! ”

Once that is finished, the assistant, Magnus, will take you to your dorm in the academy while discussing some of the history and culture of the Prottos Region. After he takes you to your dorm, he departs with a few instructions on the items in your room. Before he leaves, he asks the player to go to the mirror hanging so they can look presentable in front of the school. This is when the player can customize their appearance and clothes. Once finished, he recommends grabbing a bite to eat in the Cafeteria, meeting some other students in the Commons, heading to the Store to purchase items, going to the library to read some books, visiting the park to relax and catch some sun and going to the Stadium to watch some Pokémon Battles. Once the player is finished, he tells them to find him in the Faculty Wing. Prior to leaving, he also hands the player a PokéPad, a tablet device used to find information on your Pokémon, access the Pokédex, view your items and character information, and more. He explains it briefly before leaving.

The player is free to walk around the academy grounds. Entering into each section triggers a cutscene where a nearby NPC will instruct the player about that particular gameplay feature:

  • For the Stadium, it’s about Pokémon Battles
  • For the Commons, it’s about using the PokéPad
  • For the Cafeteria, it’s about making dishes and the effects food as on Pokémon.
  • For the Store, it’s about how to use the storm and order items online
  • For the Park, it’s about PokéPlay and how to play and interact with Pokémon
  • For the library, it’s how to read and order books using the PokéPad.

Once these tasks are finished, the player Ian then free to go to the Faculty Wing to meet with magnus outside the Professor’s Office.

Chapter 3: Irinni or Dynammi

Once the player meets with Magnus, he will bring them inside the office to meet with the two Professor’s.

Professor Fir: “Ah, many greetings trainers name! I suspect you got the full tour from Magnus, right?”
Professor Cypress: I saw Magnus asleep on the couch a min hour ago. It seems though trainer’s name did get to these the school. Now, it’s time for us to leave and you will decide where to go. Dynammi... Professor Fir: “Now fear Trainer from (insert selected Or Irinni. Choose wisely as it will affect which set of started you can select from.”
Professor Cypress: “Ah yeah, the starters. In Dynammi, you have three of them the usual. Here, take a look. You gots your Grass Starter, Bananaling. You have the Fire starter, Calflare. And you have your Water starter, Squidimple. I’ll get more into them should you come with me.”
Professor Fir: “And if you come to Irinni, you can select from the Grass starter, Puppunk, the Fire starter, Geckinder, and, finally, the Water starter Hydrony
Professor Cypress: “Here’s a helpful hint: Dynammi has the better starters.”
Professor Fir: That’s neither helpful or true. So, our beloved trainer, which one will you choose. Irinni?”
Professor Cypress: “Or Dynammi. Choose quickly. I have a roast in the oven.”
Chooses Irinni...
Professor Cypress: “Oh for...he chose poorly.”
Professor Fir: “Splendid! I knew you would choose the path of philosophy and understand! Now, we must travel to Irinni to get you set up with your new friend! And you should meet the other trainers, too! I also suggest we stop by the stylist so you can choose a defining look in order to present yourself. Presentation is key, so they say!”
Professor Cypress: “Trainer, I wish you luck and all that jazz. Remember that should you want to, you can get a Dynammi starter should you complete a set of difficult tasks. Come to me once you complete the entire Prottos Pokémon League.”
If you choose Dynammi...
Professor Fir: “Well, that’s your choice. I wouldn’t have but I’m not you.”
Professor Cypress: “Great! I knew you would pick the side of strength and skill! We will take that body of yours and turn it into a weapon! Along with your Pokémon starter as well!”
Professor Fir: “Trainer, heed my words. Should you wish to have a Irinni Starter, you first mustbcomplete a set of difficult tasks. And then, only after you vanquish the Prottos Pokémon League! Once you do, seek me out and I will reward you!”

Chapter 4: Choosing Your Starter

After choosing with professor to follow, they will take you to either lab that’s they run in Dynammi or Irinni. There, Jen player is free to choose his or her own starter. If Irinni is chosen, then can choose:

The player can choose to continue along the maze to continue to Nomisma City.

Time Travel

Time traveling is achieved by using Time Stones to access the past. This is achieved by going up to a anomaly called a Time Rift. Once a Time Stone is placed close to a Time Rift, it will be absorbed by the rift and then open up to allow safe passage for people to go through. Certain areas will only open up to certain ages in time. Professor Fir theorizes that this is due to significant changes in land formations that prevents certain ages to be visited. Players can find and capture unique forms of Pokémon called "Ancestor Forms". These forms represent the Pokémon how they appeared in a particular place in time. The players Pokémon are not affected by this shift in time however. But players can bring Ancestor Forms into the Modern Age.

Ages

Current Age
The Current Age has been marked with an increase in technology and industrialization. It has seen several notable inventions made commercial available. In addition, the modern Pokémon League is the current system employed in many regions and services such as Poké Centers and Poké Marts have become a globalized entity.

Divine Age
This was the age where gods and goddess walked about the earth and governed the comings and goings of the world. Al matter of legendary creatures were found here with cities made of gold and silver. It’s unknown what happened but things changed.

Prehistoric Age
This was the age of the beasts and saurian Pokémon. The world was far hotter back than and large plants and creatures grew in abundance. It is from this age that many of the fossils come from. It was a dangerous and ruthless age where being in top condition meant survival.

Classical Age
After the ice thawed and the world became warmer, humans began to populate and spread out over the world. Small Village civilizations quickly became large cities made of stone and marble. The world was far more disconnected back then but the Prottos Region was the first to adopt a democratic form of republic. Within this environment, the arts, sciences, and philosophy flourished. These writings and theories are still discussed in academic circles today!

Dark Age
Following the collapse of the republic that the Classical Age was founded upon, many regions of the world were ruled by Kings and Queens and warlords. Kingdoms sprang up and were destroyed in a fortnight. Gone were the interests in philosophy, sciences, art, and pursuit in knowledge. People became more superstitious and rationalized everything through signs and irrational thought. There was also a lack of written literature and records. Pokémon during this time took a more darker appearance or forms reflecting the increase in “knighthood”.

The arts flourish, inventions were made daily, and philosophers spent days discussing key issues such as the cosmos and the mind. It was at that time that the doom and gloom was washed away by this age of discovery. This also changed Pokémon with some of them adopting more enlightened and intellectual forms. Some of them took on more metallic bodies while others behavior suited a more refined period of time.

Industrial Age
The Industrial Age was humans discovered they could mass produce products using machinery. Massive factories were built in the Prottos Region and the world over to meet supply and demand. As this new industry was just born, there were relaxed and often ignored laws concerning production and, as a result, the environment suffered. Massive smoke clouds, acidic rain, and destruction of forests and pollution of rivers was a common occurrence in order to used in the development of industry.

Time Stones and Time Rifts

Time Stone

Time Stones are a strange mineral found in areas with condensed time particles. It is theorized that when a Time Stone comes in contact with a Time Rift, it opens the Rift up and allows the Rift to meld with the present. This generates a stationary time field that exists in both time planes. The Rift closes the player decides to leave a time plane voluntarily, after 30 minutes have passed, or if the player strays out of the Time Rift’s influence. Time Stones can be found within the present and the past and are found nearby Time Rifts. They can be also found within random Poke Ball items, within the Past, or given as rewards for battling or given as a present by an NPC.

There are many ways to use a Time Stone. Typically can using them in any of these ways causes the Time Stone to vanish:

  • Use they to open up Time Rifts
  • Use then to create Ancestor Balls to capture Ancestor Pokémon
  • Use then to activate certain events while in the past
  • Use then as an Held Item to Pokémon. This can cause one of three situations to occur:
    • Putting it on a Pokémon that has an Ancestor Form and leveling up with it will cause the Pokémon to evolve into their Ancestor Form. Leveling up evolutions requires a certain level cap in order to do this. Pokémon who evolve using Held Items requires only the Time Stone in order to evolve.
    • Putting it on an Ancestor Pokemon and leveling thenup with the required procedure will cause the Ancestor Pokemon to evolve into the Modern Form.
    • Putting it on a Pokémon that does not have an Ancestor Form will give access to an Ancestor Move. These are powered up attacks that have a different nature to them. Ancestor Attacks are talked more about in the Ancestor Move section.

Time Rift Time Rifts are strange time anomaly that have strong time fields. When a Time Rift comes into contact with a Time Stone, it absorbs it and expands its field which then replaces the present with the past plane.

Time Rifts can close under four ways:

  • The player completes a task or objective
  • The player voluntary leaves
  • The time limit passes
  • The player strays outside the time field

There are several types of Time Rifts that occur in Myth and Legend:

Story-Based: These will remain open until the story-related event is completed inside. Once this is done, the player is transported out. There aren’t any time limits and straying out of the time field will just reset to the player’s Last standing position.
Event-Based: While not as common as the above, this Time Rift is based on a non-story event. Like the above, it only closes after the objective is completed within the Rift and doesn’t have a time limit.
Requirement-Based: These are a bit different. They need a requirement for it to officially appear which can then be opened. These requirements could be the time of day, having certain Pokémon on your team, reaching a certain point on the map, or when meeting a certain person.
Random: This is the most common. Random Time Rifts will often open up as you continue along your Pokémon journey. They will remain open for some time before closing and vanishing. It can’t be opened up after this point. Generally, these kind of Time Rifts only offer exploration, battling, and Pokémon capturing inside. Once the player leaves, the time limit passes, or the player ventures outside the field, the Rift will close.

The Past

As mentioned above, time travel is capable through the use of Time Stones and Time Rifts. Due to the limitations of time traveling technology and human understanding, the time field only extends to a certain field of range. Within this range, the landscape, people, events, and Pokémon may change. This is particularly true to further you travel back in time.

It is important to note that traveling back in time may cause a change in the future. This could be as subtle as removing a large boulder from a path to changing the future of the Protoss Region. While in the past, the player can catch Pokémon, fight against Past Trainers, and participate in certain events.

Ancestor Balls

Ancestor Balls are a kind of Poké Ball which has a time stone infused within it. This is done by taking a Poké Ball and infusing it with a Time Stone. Once this it done, it’s possible to catch Ancestor Pokémon and do keep the Pokémon inside intact. If a regular Poké Ball is used, the Pokémon inside vanishes away within the stream of time. Pokémon can be brought into the past from the future however without any issues as they are within the players “field of time influence” once they set foot into the Time Rift entrance.
