Piranha Eggs, originally known as Gūrindai, are special Spiny Eggs sometimes thrown by Lakitus. They appear to be small, usually red balls covered in spikes with a close white Piranha Plant mouth. When the Egg lands, a Piranha Plant sprouts where it landed. In this state, they they can be defeated when touched by a Star, burned by Fire Mario's fireballs, attacked by Raccoon Mario's or Tanooki Mario's Tail attack, etc.

Piranha Eggs debuted in this game, where they were thrown by Lakitus in the level Blooming Lakitus. In New Super Luigi U, Lakitus throwing Piranha Eggs appeared in the level Spinning Sandstones.
New Super Mario Bros. 3[]
In this game, Piranha Eggs can sometimes sprout into a Fire Piranha Plant or Giant Piranha Plant. They can also rarely sprout into Ice Piranha Plants, or even less frequently sprout into Acid Piranha Plants. appear more prominently, specifically in the world Slipstream Jungle. Here, Lakitus throwing them appear in Piranha Plant Pike. Piranha Eggs, alongside Spiny Eggs, also appear as standalone objects in Slipstream Creeper Tower, where they behave like Grrrols and hatch when Mario comes near. In the level Vine Mine, Lakitus throwing both types of Eggs appear outside it.
Lakitus throwing these also appear in the Piranha Plant Blockade. They produce more Piranha Plants which do not count towards the blockade enemies.
