The Mushroom Castle is an active stage on Super Smash Stadium. It was the last new stage to debut on the show's very first month of existence, and was the 8th to debut overall.

Stage overview[]

The stage takes place on top of the Mushroom Castle, as seen in Super Mario 64, albeit with the spire removed. This gives the stage a symmetrical structure, with sloped edges. Also, on the ends, there are floating platforms that rise when you step on them.

Every 45 seconds, a red, green, or blue switch spawns on the stage. Hit it to spawn ! Blocks that give out items. Red ! Blocks appear on either side of the castle tower, while green ! Blocks appear near the left kill zone, and blue ! Blocks appear on top of the tower. Also, every 60 seconds, a Banzai Bill will be shot offscreen somewhere and will slowly approach the castle. It will eventually ram into some surface on the castle, after which it'll flash for five seconds, then explode; the explosion has about the power of a Smart Bomb.

Unlike in the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate incarnation of the stage, you CAN swim in the water at the bottom, rendering Meteor Smashes useless. This debuted on its first playing after February 20, 2004, the day that swimming debuted as a mechanic.

Changes[]

Officially, the last major change to this stage was on its first playing in Season 11. However, between Seasons 36 and 44, in conjunction with multiple major plot events that had happened on The World of Nintendo, the castle took on a blue color scheme to reflect that it was now Marth's castle, and the stained glass portrait in the center was of Marth as well. This was all reverted by May 2016.

  • The original version of the stage took place in the sky, just outside the Mushroom Castle, and had a much different layout. At the bottom was an octagon-shaped platform with a gray block underneath that moved back and forth slowly; sometimes, one end of the platform would retract completely into the wall. Above this was a soft platform that was sloped except for in the middle. At either top corner, there were two Lego-like platforms with very steep slopes that made them impossible to walk on, and there was a Bumper in between them that didn't quite act like the item. This was likely changed because fans found this layout discombobulating. As with most Season 1 debuts, the stage was in 8-bit until Season 4 began. Bullet Bills and Switches did not appear in this incarnation of the stage; in fact, they would not start appearing until circa February 2, 1984.

In its own universe[]

The Mushroom Castle is where the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom lives. Some depictions of it show it adjacent to a place called Toad Town.
