Monster Industries is an upcoming strategy horror simulation game developed and published by Lazy Studios. The game is planned to released at an unknown time for the PC. The game is rated M by the ESRB, due to violence, blood and gore and mild language.

Premise

Monster Industries stars you as the new administrator of the titular company, Monster Industries. The company was founded several years ago by an unknown being known simply as the "Higher Ups", created with the purpose of capturing, research, and housing various unusual creatures and humans, known as "Specimens" for others to view and learn about. After giving out your name, you become the owner of a branch of the company in some unknown city, and you, alongside your faithful assistant, a monster-obsessed scientist, and a cynical police officer, it's up to you to build up your facility, turn a profit, and not let anything mysterious get out to the public! What could possibly go wrong?

Gameplay

Monster Industries is primarily a business management game, with a few elements of strategy and horror. The entire game is 2D, taking place in a birds-eye view, where players can freely move the camera and interact with things by clicking on them.

Specimens

The main goal of Monster Industries is to build and expand your facility, and construct containment chambers in order to house the game's various "Specimens". Each specimen is different from another, with different requirements like space and food, alongside a special trait that much be noted if a player wants to house them successfully. If a specimen is not satisfied, it will get aggressive, eventually attempting to break out its chamber and attack and kill your guests and security force.

Business & Guests

Business is one of the three main aspects of Monster Industries. As you construct your facility, people will come in and will want to see the various specimens on display. These will act as your main source of income. Your guests have various factors which determine their enjoyment.

  • Entertainment: Determined by monsters they see. Guests will have a certain favorite monster type, alongside two or three favorite monsters. Having one of these monsters will greatly increase their entertainment. They can also be boosted through the use of souvenirs.
  • Food: Determined by if they can obtain food from food stalls.
  • Water: Determined by if they can obtain drinks from drink stalls.
  • Rest: Determined by if they have benches or other places they can rest.
  • Bathroom: Determined by if they can find a restroom when they need to use one.
  • Safety: Determined by how many security devices there are. If an exhibit doesn't have high security, the guests may attempt to avoid it.

Research

Research is one of the three main aspects of Monster Industries. Researching is the main way you'll be obtaining and learning about specimens.

Creating Specimens

TBA

Researching Specimens

Of course, in order to house a specimen, you'll need to learn everything about them and their behavior. However, you won't immediately know about a monster. You'll need to send researchers to research on monsters. Researching takes time, but if you feel impatient (or just don't care about the lives of your researchers), you can send them inside a chamber, or donate one if they're dead. Just be careful, as if you decide to put one inside a chamber, you'll want to make sure they stay far away, or the monster is asleep.

Safety

Safety is the last of the three main aspects of Monster Industries. With the possibility of your specimens escaping, top notch security is needed to make sure guests are safe from danger.

Security Items

The player has access to various types of security items in order to prevent their specimens from causing any powerful amounts of damage.

  • Walls: Walls act as barriers, keeping your monsters away from your guests. There are several types of walls, with certain walls being needed for certain monsters, like spirit-proof walls in order to stop Ghosts, or magic-proof walls in order to stop curses from Wendigos and Succubi.
  • Security Doors: Security Doors also act as walls, but unlike them, can be opened in order to allow others through. The player can close them at will whenver a specimen escape. They can also be used to allow staff to enter chambers, and can be used to seperate staff areas from guest areas.
  • Security Cameras: Security Cameras can be used to create a constant way to watch certain monsters, like spirits and scarecrows, in order to prevent them from escaping. You'll want to make sure someone is always manning the cameras in the Security Team, otherwise the cameras won't work.
  • One-Way Glass: One-Way Glass is a special type of glass that allows guests to see monsters, without the monsters seeing them. Not only does this increase safety, but also prevents certain monsters like Gorgons from using their abilities. Just make sure you don't use this type of glass on monsters that actually want to see humans, as this will just increase their aggression.
  • Monster Snares: Monster Snares are traps that a player can place. When a specimen appears below them, they activate, snaring them in a net that will temporarily stun them. After use, a player will need to replace the net.
  • Gas Shooters: Gas Shooters are devices that can be place inside of an exhibit. They are capable of firing various gases, which will create various effects. Blue gas puts specimens to sleep, red gas deters them, and green gas lures them. You can also customize the doses, increasing their power and the time they last, at the cost of range. After use, a player will need to replace the gas.

Power

TBA

Staff

Staff are responsible for managing your facility and helping you in various ways. After constructing their corresponding staff room, you can begin hiring them. Each staff member has different roles, though you can control them by clicking them and telling them to do specific things. At the end of each day, you give them some of your money. You can increase the amount of money they get, but giving them too little money may result in them getting unhappy, and possibly quitting their job.

  • Tenders: Monster Tenders are responsible for taking care of monsters, feeding them, cleaning glass, and other things.
  • Researchers: Researchers are responsible for collecting data from specimens and filling out the Specimen Database.
  • Security Guards: Security Guards are responsible for keeping your specimens contained, and stopping them whenever they attempt to escape.

Stress

As staff work and witness things they aren't supposed to, they'll experience 'Stress. Stress builds up mostly when in the prescene of certain monsters, or when they witness others die. If a staff member gets too stressed, they'll go Insan'e. An insane staff worker will sometimes be unable to do their job, have anxiety attacks, and sometimes attack others when confronted. If they get too stressed, it will result in them dying of a heart attack. Stress can only be reduced when a member goes into a Break Room, though certain staff will benefit more from certain coping methods than others.
