Unless I really screwed up on grammar, or it could use some categories, or if you have permission. If none of those apply, don’t touch anything here. Also, feel free to comment. I worked hard on this and would love feedback of any kind.

Mariomon Red Version and Mariomon Green VersionRG are spinoffs of the Mario franchise developed for the Nintendo Switch. Hence the title, the game draws many gameplay elements from the Pokemon franchise. The game is slated to release in November of 2019, alongside the likely release of the first installments of Pokemon’s Generation VIII.

The game follows a generic Toad who begins his/her Mariomon journey, with much support from notable heroes such as Mario, Princess Peach, and Luigi. On his/her journey, this Toad also ends up working to defeat the impending attack of Team Koop, led by Bowser and his son, Bowser Jr.

Gameplay

The game plays very similarly to game of the Pokémon series. You travel the world, battling fellow Mariomon trainers, catching and training your own Mariomons, and defeating 8 Mariomon Gyms. Along the way, you uncover secrets about the Mushroom Kingdom, such as the wrath of Team Koop, the return of the Toad Brigade, and the mysterious hero helping you on your journey.

Battling

There are two types of battles in Mariomon: Wild Battles and Trainer Battles.

Wild Battles

When you encounter a Mariomon in the wild, a battle begins. You can encounter them in multiple ways. Many pop out while walking through tall grass, some may fall on you from the sky when you walk under their shadow, some may appear after breaking a block, and some can pop out randomly in deserts or caves.

In a wild Mariomon battle, your main objective is to defeat the Mariomon. However, if you can weaken it enough, you can throw a Marioball and attempt to catch it. If successful, the Mariomon will join your team.

Trainer Battles

Trainer Battles occur when either when you lock eyes with an opposing trainer, or when an NPC initiates it over dialogue. They are not too unlike Wild Battles. However, in Trainer Battles, the trainer will likely have multiple Mariomons to use against you. They also have more skilled movesets and are more talented strategists. Another hitch is that you cannot use Marioballs while in a Trainer Battle, as you cannot steal Mariomons.

If you win a Trainer Battle, the losing trainer will give you a fair sum of Coins. However, if you lose, you pay the winning trainer some Coins, return to the most recent Mushroom House you were in, and have your Mariomons healed. You can then rematch the trainer at a later time.

Evolution

Evolution in Mariomon is worked rather differently than Pokémon. There are some species of Mariomon that evolve via leveling up to a certain level. However, many species within the Mario universe have many subspecies. For example, a Goomba has subspecies of Paragoomba, Mega Goomba, Spiky Goomba, and several more. For this reason, many Mariomon evolve via items.

With item evolution, you can select what subspecies you would like your Mariomon to become. For instance, if you want your Goomba to become a Paragoomba, you would have it hold a P Wing and level up to a level past Level 25. This system allows for a more selective play style, letting the player have more control over his/her team and being able to more easily know what Mariomon they would obtain.

Plot

Introduction - Gym 1

The game opens with your uncle Toadsworth, who greets you. He describes to you the past of the Mushroom Kingdom, how Bowser has terrorized the land for decades, then the power to capture his minions was developed and he was finally defeated. He talks about how much the Kingdom has improved since this tech began, how Mario, the hero of old, became a skilled Mariomon trainer and began guiding people through the Kingdom on their journeys. Toadsworth then gets your information—name, gender, what your avatar looks like.

You then step out into Toad Town, the first city. Toadsworth walks out behind you and tells you to head to Princess Peach’s Castle to recieve your starting Mariomon. On the way, you meet the legendary hero Luigi...but don’t recognize him at first. He doesn’t mind, he tells you that everyone only remembers his brother’s impact on history, not his. He follows you to the castle.

Upon arriving in the castle, Toadsworth pulls out theee Marioballs and clicks them open, revealing your three possible starting Mariomons: Piranha Plant, the Grass type; Lava Bubble, the Fire type; and Cheep-Cheep, the Water type. After choosing your Mariomon, Princess Peach comes down and congratulates you on starting your journey. She tells you about how it’ll be a great experience and you’ll learn a lot. Realizing that she’s never gone on a journey herself, she tells Toadsworth that she’s decided to do so, and chooses the Mariomon that’s weak against yours. She then challenges you to a battle to see the talent your Mariomons possess.

After your battle, Peach congratulates you and tells you that you clearly will become a great trainer. You both leave the castle. Peach runs down the path ahead, telling you that Route 1 is the way to the next town, Arborous Town. Luigi runs up behind you and tells you that he decided to go on a journey as well. He thought about what Peach said and realized that defeating the Mariomon League would be the next way to make a name for himself. He then explains the 8 gym system, the Elite Four, as well as other basics like items and Mushroom Houses. He then runs into the Mushroom House to buy supplies.

Upon entering Route 1, Peach catches up to you from up ahead. She talks about how ever since Mariomonic tech began, her love Mario had dedicated himself to becoming one of the most powerful trainers in the kingdom. She then teaches you about Mariomon battles and catching Mariomons. She told you that the first gym is past Route 2 in Archivista City. She hands you Marioballs and Mushrooms, then heads forward.

Upon arrival in Arborous Town, Luigi catches up and challenges you to a battle. He then complains about his weak team, but decides to go back and train them up before going to the next gym. Luigi runs back into Route 1 after waving goodbye. Upon moving farther in Arborous Town, you find out that Team Koop controls the town. Bowser Jr. steps out near the exit and tells you that Team Koop will rise and take over the Kingdom. Their leader may have been defeated before, but his power is greater; he is building a formidable Mariomon team. He then leaves, allowing the player to continue down Route 2.

You then arrive in Archivista Town. Several Toads tell you that the gym leader is a former admin of the Toad Brigade and that she’s a powerful trainer. After going through all of the trainers in the Bug type gym, the player meets Toadette. She tells you that she knows about Arborous Town and how it’s controlled by Team Koop. She talks about the Toad Brigade, and how they were a powerful force back in the day. She asks that, if you win, she will go back to Arborous Town and kick out Bowser Jr. if you go to Traccerin City and bring Captain Toad back to lead the Brigade. The first gym battle then takes place.

Post Gym 1 - Gym 2

When the battle finishes, Toadette hands you the Goldshroom Badge. She wishes you luck on the rest of your journey and leaves the gym to Arborous Town. You leave the gym and run into Luigi. He tells you that he’s ready to take on the gym now. You explain that Toadette’s left to Arborous Town. Luigi freaks out and runs back through Route 2.

You walk onto Route 3. On the way, you see a Hammer Bro. harassing a Toad. You walk up and confront the Team Koop soldier and battle him. After your battle, another Hammer Bro. walks up and challenges you. Before you can battle him, though, a mysterious man in red overalls walks up and battles him. The man tells you to hurry to the next town, Freelander Town.

You arrive in Freelander Town, and not long after the man in red catches up. He introduces himself as Mario. He commends you for the way you handled that Team Koop soldier. He explains the nuisance they’ve been to the kingdom, and how they’re frankly terrible Mariomon trainers. He advises you to stay on alert and stop them if you see them in the future. He runs down another route.

Luigi catches up to you and says he beat Toadette in a gym battle. He then challenges you to a battle. After his defeat, he doesn’t seem too bothered and simply says that he knows his Mariomon will improve. Later in the town, the two of you learn that Route 4 has been overrun with boulders, and that you must take an alternate route to Traccerin City through Silverstone Cave. You head into the cave.

While in the cave, explosions can be heard. You eventually find the source to be Kamek, a Team Koop admin who is trying to prevent you from getting to Traccerian City. He claims it would be a prime spot for Bowser’s base of operations. He then battles you. When he loses, he opens the exit to the cave and swears revenge.

Upon leaving the cave, you find out that Captain Toad, the gym leader, had just cleared the boulders from Route 5. He greets you and Luigi and promises that he’ll battle you as soon as Team Koop’s soldiers are cleared out. The remaining three head up to the three of you and initiate a Triple Battle.

After the battle, Luigi tells you that you should head to the gym before him. He wants to go down Route 5 first and train more, and advises that you might want to do the same. Before the gym battle, you are visited by a bike salesman and obtain a bike. You then enter Captain Toad’s gym.

After battling the Ground type trainers in the gym, you confront Captain Toad. You tell him about how Toadette wants to bring back the Toad Brigade. He agrees that it would help get rid of Team Koop. He says that after this battle, he’ll go find Toadette. The second gym battle then occurs.

Post Gym 2 - Gym 3

After the battle, Captain Toad hands you the Tracker Badge. He then tells you he’s heading off to Arborous Town to find Toadette. Luigi runs up after you leave the gym and tells you he’s ready for the battle. You tell him the gym leader’s left again. He groans and is about to leave, when he decides he wants to battle you and see who’s stronger.

After the battle, he runs down Route 5 back to Arborous Town. You head down Route 6. On the Route, you see Princess Peach and two Team Koop soldiers harassing her. You walk up and have a Double Battle against them with Peach. She thanks you after the battle and tells you they were talking about kidnapping her, like Bowser used to before Mariomonic tech. She then compliments your battling ability and tells you that someday, she’ll defeat you in battle.

Farther down on Route 6, you find an old Lakitu who gives you a Fishing Rod and explains how to use it. You eventually arrive in Coastalic Town. The townsfolk on the edge of town are freaking out, but it’s unclear why. When you get farther in town, you find out that Bowser Jr. in his Clown Car is causing tumultuous waves in the ocean, flooding much of the city. Peach catches up to you and tells you that the two of you need to confront him. She gives you a Ride Pager and registers Dorrie Surf.

The two of you surf to Bowser Jr. He laughs and says that by flooding this town and getting rid of the townsfolk, Team Koop can easily take it over and grow their power. Peach tells you that you need to battle him and take him down. You then battle him.

After his defeat, Bowser Jr. tells you that even though he lost, he can still flood the town. Peach pulls out a Green Shell and throws it at him, causing him to fall to the ocean. Peach commends you on that battle, and says that she’ll defeat him next time. You both return to land. Upon healing your team, Peach challenges you to a battle. After your battle, Peach says her team is bound to get stronger. She’s already defeated the first two gyms, and she wants to become strong enough to defeat the next six. She tells you the next gym is in Spectrallica City. She starts to surf down the coast.

You head down Route 7 and find the Mariomon Breeding Center, and learn about breeding Mariomons. At the end of Route 7, you enter Spectrallica City. Bowser is seen, sending forth soldiers to take over the city. Bowser tells you that he rules this town, and that no one can stop him, not even the gym leader. The townsfolk encourage you to get the gym leader’s assistance.

Upon entering the gym, you notice it’s entirely empty except for Lubba, standing in the back. He tells you that ever since Team Koop showed up, he’s had no motivation to battle anyone. Bowser suddenly breaks into the gym and cackles. You battle Bowser. After having defeated him, Bowser steps back, amazed at your power. Lubba steps forward and decides to send his Lumas into battle against Team Koop. Team Koop’s downfall is then seen, being overrun by Lumas. Lubba thanks you, then offers to battle you. The third gym battle then takes place.

Post Gym 3 - Gym 4

Upon defeating Lubba, he offers you the Spaceship Badge. He tells you that the next gym is in Diamonic City, and advises that you go there. When you step outside the gym, Luigi runs up. You tell him that the gym leader is still inside, much to Luigi’s joy. He goes inside to battle Lubba.

You walk onto Route 8 and discover that, farther down, it’s entirely strewn with rocks that are difficult to walk on. Peach shows up and tells you that she recently got her third gym badge. She notices the rocks and registers Reznor Rock Cross on your Ride Pager. You and her cross the rocks. A landslide occurs suddenly, causing all the rocks to come loose and push you and Peach down a cliff.

At the bottom of the cliff, you realize that you’ve ended up on Route 10. Kamek flies down, cackles, and tells you that there’s a powerful Mariomon lurking on Route 9, and that he can’t have you and Peach getting to it first. Peach is determined to get to that Mariomon. She runs ahead, telling you to follow her.

You soon reach Odysennic Town. Peach is standing at the Route 9 entrance, telling you to follow again. You soon run into Kamek again, who is engaged in battle with a T-Rex. Kamek throws a Marioball, but it merely bounces off. The T-Rex roars, attacks the Bullet Bill Kamek is using, and then attacks Kamek, sending him flying. Peach tells you to battle the T-Rex, which you do.

After the battle (regardless of whether you manage to catch it), Peach is glad that Team Koop can’t get their hands on that beast. She informs you that the Toad Brigade recently resurfaced and is clearing away the fallen rocks on Route 8 if you want to visit them. If not, Diamonic City is just down Route 10. If you return to Route 8, Captain Toad and Toadette are quite happy to see you again. They tell you that they’ll be flying around all of the Mushroom Kingdom, working to protect it from Team Koop. Right now, the Brigade is only Toad and Toadette, but another one of their goals is to get all the old members back.

You head to Diamonic City. You notice that it’s controlled largely by Team Koop. Luigi runs up behind you and notices it as well. Knowing from experience that gym leaders are strong enough to kick them out, you both head to the city’s gym. The gym leader, it turns out, is Wario. Luigi asks him why he let Team Koop take over. Wario says that the Team Koop admins payed him a large sum of coins to let them control the city. Luigi proposed a deal: if the player defeats Wario in battle, he’ll get rid of Team Koop. Wario agrees, and the fourth gym battle begins.

Post Gym 4 - Gym 5

Wario is defeated. He begrudgingly gives you the Garlic Badge, and the three of you go outside. Bowser Jr. is seen, and he thanks Wario for letting them take over. Wario recents their deal and gets into a battle with Jr., telling you and Luigi to head out through Route 11.

Upon entering Route 11, Luigi realizes that he never fought Wario. He says goodbye and is about to leave, when he realizes he wants to have a battle with you. You battle, and at the end, Luigi congratulates you and heads back to the gym.

Farther down Route 11, you run into Bowser. He tells you he was about to head to the next town, Rallyton Town, and conquer it. However, he had heard that Wario had halted his son’s takeover, so he was now on his way there and re-conquer it. He decides to strike a deal with you, however. If you defeat him in battle, he won’t go back to Diamonic City, but if Bowser wins, Team Koop will take it over again.

Upon victory, Bowser grumbles and stomps off. You get into Rallyton Town, and to your surprise, Bowser is sending soldiers forth and conquering it. He laughs and said your deal was only about conquering Diamonic City, and that Rallyton was fair game still. Luigi catches up and cheerily tells you that Team Koop was out of Diamonic City, and that he defeated Wario. Then he notices Bowser and his cheeriness fades. Luigi tells you that he’ll go for Bowser if you take out the foot soldiers.

After defeating the soldiers, you see Mario run up and help Luigi defeat Bowser. Mario tells you to head to Route 12 and that they’ll take it from here. You head onto Route 12, and find the Toad Brigade, now with Bank Toad and Sleepy Toad with them. Captain Toad registers your Ride Pager with Red Copter Koopa Fly, allowing you to travel to places you’ve already been. He tells you that the next town, Spinofferi City, is a large city filled with things to do, and that you should check some of it out after going to the gym.

You enter Spinofferi City, and understand what Captain Toad meant. There are tennis courts, baseball diamonds, kart racing tracks, and more. The gym is within a large tennis court. At the end of the Poison type trainers, you see Waluigi. He grins and tells you that this city was built based off of everything he’s ever done well at. He believes that being a gym leader will finally get him truly noticed by the champion. The fifth gym battle then begins.

Post Gym 5 - Gym 6

Upon his defeat, Waluigi hands you the Racket Badge. He tells you that the next gym is in Sarasa City. He steps outside with you. When you leave, a kart spontaneously races past you. Waluigi runs after it. Luigi catches up and says he’s become a master at kart racing during the time he’s been in this town. He asks where the gym leader is, and you point in the direction of the runaway kart. Luigi groans and runs after it.

You walk onto Route 13. Mario runs up to you. He thanks you for the way you constantly take down Team Koop. He tells you that he’s heard from some soldiers that they’re planing a major attack on the kingdom. He asks you to be on alert, and then runs ahead.

Later down Route 13, you run into Peach. She tells you that she’s gotten her fifth gym badge recently, and she’s feeling very confident about her team. She challenges you to a battle, and you accept. When she loses, she graciously congratulates you. However, Bowser Jr. suddenly flies up from behind the two of you.

He cackles about how you lost. Peach informs him that, in fact, you won the battle. But Jr continues to cackle and says again...you lost. Boom BoomR/Pom PomG suddenly runs up from behind him and battles you. In the midst of the battle, regardless of whether Boom BoomR/Pom PomG was caught, Bowser Jr. had escaped...with Peach in his clutches!

Mario and Luigi run up and see Bowser Jr. flying away with Peach. The three of you run into Sarasa City. Luigi tells you that his love, Daisy, is the local gym leader. If anyone would know what to do, she would. The three of you enter her gym. The Grass type trainers in the gym recognize that it’s an emergency and let you freely cross.

Daisy walks toward you. She asks what happened, and Mario explains that Peach was kidnapped. She gasps, then realizes she doesn’t recognize you. Luigi introduces you, and Daisy asks if you’re on the Toad Brigade. When you say no, Daisy is shocked, and says she’s heard of your incredible progress as a trainer and a fighter against Team Koop, and that you should be on the Brigade.

Daisy says that the best way to Bowser’s Castle would be through Route 19, which leads directly into Kooptroop City, Team Koop’s official base of operations. She says that the next gym after her would be Pauline’s in Metrodonk City, but there’s no time. You and Luigi then bring up a gym battle, and she obliges. The sixth gym battle then begins.

Post Gym 6 - Gym 7

Upon her defeat, Daisy hands you the Flower Badge. She hands one to Luigi too, saying their battle will have to wait. The four of you leave her gym, and Daisy leads the way to Route 14, which cuts into Route 19.

All of a sudden, the Toad Brigade flies in, now with all of its members back. Captain Toad asks what the situation is, and Mario quickly explains it. Captain Toad says he can take Daisy, Luigi, and Mario on the Starshroom straight to the castle. Unfortunately, there isn’t enough room for you. Mario offers to give up his seat, but you tell him that you can make it.

You head down Route 14 and later Route 19 largely uneventful, aside from the occasional trainer battle. You soon arrive in Kooptroop City. The city is mostly empty, except for a Mushroom House, a couple homes, and a gym. The gym is designed to look like a tower, complete with fortified brick walls and even cannons. One of the cannons points towards the Starshroom and shoots it down over Bowser’s Castle.

You enter the gym and battle several Dark type trainers. At the top of the tower, you find none other than Bowser Jr. as the gym leader. He laughs and talks about irony. He tells you he’s a certified gym leader, even though he barely gets any challengers. Now that Team Koop officially has the upper hand, though, he believes it’s totally worth it. The seventh gym battle now begins.

Post Gym 7 - Team Koop Attack

You defeat Bowser Jr., much to his surprise and disappointment. He hands you the Maskery Badge and tells you that, now that you’ve officially beaten him, you can go to the castle.

You leave the gym and head to the castle. Upon entering the castle, Kamek flies down to you. He tells you that you’ll never be able to get too far in this castle, and that there are tricks everywhere. He vanishes, leaving you to find your way around on your own. The castle is very much like a maze, with many twists and curves designed to confuse the player.

Eventually, you reach Bowser’s Throne Room. Kamek stops you and says that you weren’t supposed to get this far. He battles you. When you win, he grumbles and turns to Bowser and nods. Bowser presses a button on his throne, causing the floor to open up beneath you. You fall into a dungeon deep beneath the castle. You can hear Kamek talking about “wont be able to survive...” something as you fall.

In a corner, you see Daisy, Luigi, Mario, Peach, and the Toad Brigade. Mario tells you that there’s a gigantic, evil Mariomon in this dungeon. He says that he would’ve fought it, but Kamek took their Mariomon when they entered. As if on cue, the floor rumbles. You turn and see GoombossR/King Bob-OmbG running toward you. You face the beast and battle the Legendary.

After having caught the beast, you click open the Marioball you caught it in and it leaps out. You motion for all the trainers in the dungeon to climb onto its back, which they do. The Legendary Mariomon charges through several walls and eventually gets you back to the Throne Room. Mario and the rest walk up to Kamek and get their stuff back. You walk up to Bowser. He coolly says hello to you, his old rival, and battles with you.

Post Team Koop Attack - Gym 8

After your battle with Bowser, Mario and Peach tell him that he needs to stop his attacks on the kingdom. He obliges and lets them go. Suddenly, the ground cracks beneath his throne. All of the throne room ground gives way causing lava to come up from underneath. Bowser falls in. Everyone else runs out of the throne room with one question on their minds: what now? Daisy said she was going to return to Sarasa City. Mario and Peach said they’d return to her castle. Captain Toad said he could take you and Luigi up to Skyview City, a city in the clouds which is also home to the last gym you need. You gladly accept.

The Starshroom flies over the kingdom. As it flies, Team Koop flags can be seen going down all over the kingdom. Luigi tells you that it was all because of you. The ship parks in the edge of the city. Unfortunately, Captain Toad tells you that they need to fly down and refuel, and he doubts a city in the sky would have the fuel he needs. The Starshroom flies off, leaving you and Luigi stranded on the city of clouds.

Luigi saw the gym farther down in the city and said they should go there. Before going that way, however, Luigi proposed that they have one final battle together. This journey, he says, has made him a much stronger and more confident person, and he owes just about all of it to you. The two of you battle.

Upon your victory, Luigi shakes your hand, and wishes you luck in the battle. He’s going to train more before he goes to the gym. Upon arrival in the gym, the player notices that it’s merely an empty cottage. Walking into the back room reveals Professor E. Gadd sitting in a chair. He tells you that he retired the science business and, instead of going to a beach house like all stereotypical retired people do, he thought he’d live in the sky.

E. Gadd tells you that he’s heard tales about you. He’s heard how you grew the confidence of Luigi, was an inspiration for Princess Peach, patched the relationship of Toad and Toadette, and even gave the great Mario someone to look up to. He stands up and tells you it will be an honor to battle you. The eighth and final gym battle occurs.

Post Gym 8 - Elite Four/Champion

After the battle, E. Gadd walks towards you and hands you the Polter Badge. He opens the back door of his gym and shows you a beanstalk leading down to Princess Peach’s castle. He informs you that the beanstalk is known as Victory Road, as the top of Peach’s castle is where the Pokémon League is housed.

You walk down the long and winding Victory Road. There are several powerful trainers and Mariomons in your way as you head down. Eventually, you reach the balcony of Peach’s castle. Toadsworth is standing there saying congratulations. He tells you that the Mariomon League is made up of the Elite Four and the Champion. He tells you that to complete your journey, you must defeat the Mariomon League. Then, he offers to battle you before you go in.

After your battle, he heals your team and wishes you luck. You enter the castle and see a lone door. Upon entering, you see Cappy in front of you. He tells you that he heard of your journey and your defeating Team Koop. He says it will be great to see if you can live up to the legend you’ve created. The first Elite Four battle occurs.

After defeating Cappy, he opens the door behind him and waves goodbye. In the next room, you see Rosalina. She thanks you for how you brought Lubba’s confidence back earlier in the journey. She tells you that she ordinarily leads the Lumas, but the champion had something she needed to do, so she had Lubba lead them. She wishes you luck in battle. The second Elite Four battle begins.

After the battle, she opens the door behind her. In the next room, Pauline is seen. She tells you that she’s ordinarily a gym leader, but when the chaos of Team Koop happened, she had her city evacuated and sent to Toad Town for refuge. While here, the champ asked her to be an Elite Four. She said she was ready to battle all Champion challengers, including legends like you. The third Elite Four battle occurs.

After the battle, she waves goodbye and opens the door behind her. In the fourth and final room, you see none other than Captain Toad. He tells you that he came down to Toad Town to refuel. While down here, the champion asked him to become a member of the Elite Four. He accepted, since it’s a more part-time job than gym leader and he already has a full-time job as leader of the Toad Brigade. He tells you it’d be an honor to battle you. The final Elite Four battle occurs.

After your battle, Captain Toad opens the door behind him and wishes you luck against the Champ. Upon entering the room, you finally meet the elusive champion...it’s none other than Mario. He tells you that he wanted his identity as champ to be kept as secret as possible. By doing so, he says that he would be able to go around the kingdom helping out and not be applauded as a hero, but just be an ordinary person helping out.

And what’s great, he continues, is that’s exactly what you did! You’re just a Toad from humble beginnings that went on a journey. You ended up overthrowing an empire that was close to rising back to power, and did it just about single handedly. He says it will be an honor to see who is more worthy to be champion between the two of you. The battle for the title of Champion begins.

After the battle, Mario shakes your hand. He leads you to the highest tower on Peach’s castle. There, he has your Mariomon team inserted on a pedestal. Said pedestal records your team on the champion’s personal database and now recognizes you as the official champion. The game ends.

Post-Game

You step out the front door of Peach’s Castle with Mario following close by. He tells you that you can come back to defend your title any time you like. He informs you that if you can defeat him again, you will be the next Champion. He tells you that he’s going to visit the kingdom’s cities and make sure Team Koop is entirely out of them.

You then see Captain Toad and Toadette standing by the south side of the castle. They tell you that they want to go to the wreckage of Bowser’s Castle and see what treasures they can salvage. They invite you to come with. The three of you walk down newly opened Route 22, which eventually leads into Kooptroop City.

Upon arrival in Kooptroop City, you notice that it’s more or less empty. Captain Toad suggests checking inside the gym to see if anyone’s in there. You enter and see Kamek and Bowser Jr. standing by the entrance. They immediately flee to the top of the tower. Toad and Toadette walk in and figure out what happened. The three of you run up to the top of the tower.

At the top, you see the two. They tell you that they have an project they need to work on. Captain Toad asks what it is, but they refuse to say. Kamek flies to the castle, while Bowser Jr. battles you. He then flies to the castle as well. Toadette heals your team, while Captain Toad runs off to gather the Toad Brigade.

You enter the castle, and soon the rest of the Brigade comes in behind you. Much of the castle is destroyed from the wreckage that the legendary Mariomon caused earlier. The Brigade collects assorted treasures in the castle while you maneuver around rubble to reach the Throne Room. There, you find Kamek standing before you. He battles you. After the battle, he casts a spell. The ground beneath you begins to shake.

You step back. Kamek and Bowser Jr. fly into the air. Suddenly, a massive geyser of lava spurts up and brings up a pile of dead bones. The bones begin to move together and form Dry Bowser. Kamek says in surprise that his spell was supposed to perfectly reanimate Bowser; he seems to have reverted to a carnal state and only in a skeletal form.

Dry Bowser runs out of the castle. Kamek says that Dry Bowser will likely destroy much of the Mushroom Kingdom if he is not stopped. He begrudgingly asks for your help in catching him. You agree. Kamek says that Bowser will likely head for Sarasa City first; the two of you head there.

In Sarasa City, Daisy is seen in combat with Dry Bowser. She tells you that she almost has him defeated and asks you to evac the city in case she fails. You do so; when you return to Daisy, Dry Bowser seems to have bested her team. He runs out to Spinofferi City. Captain Toad flies up in the Starshroom and asks how he can help. Daisy tells him to inform Waluigi of the danger approaching his city. He does so.

Upon arriving in Spinofferi City, Waluigi is seen ready for battle. He says that Dry Bowser never showed up, oddly. A scream is suddenly heard from farther east in the town. Dry Boaser then runs up chasing a Toad. Waluigi engages in combat. He says that the next city he’ll likely attack is Diamonic City and tells you to warn Wario.

You arrive in Diamonic City and enter the gym. Wario is seen sleeping. You try to wake him, but to no avail. During your attempts, stomping can be heard outside. Kamek runs in and says that Dry Bowser has arrived and that it would be your duty to defeat him. You step outside.

Dry Bowser faces you. Kamek says that the key would be to catch him. If you don’t, he will cause more and more danger to the Kingdom. Besides, he says, he can always find a spell to create a new bowser. Dry Bowser roars, and you battle him. Upon catching him, Kamek congratulates you. He says that he will lead Team Koop to be more peaceful. He then flies off, wishing you good luck in future endeavors.

Much like the Pokémon franchise, there is a coinciding anime series for Mariomon. The anime is scheduled to recieve two seasons in its beginning; the show’s reception will determine the amount of future seasons.

Mariomon is capable of supporting amiibo. Upon completing the game, a building opens in Odysennic Town run by Hint Toad and Uncle Amiibo. In this building, you can scan one amiibo every 24 hours and have a Mariomon battle with it, yielding large amounts of Coins and experience.

Each amiibo you scan has a different Mariomon team of three Mariomons. What follows is a list of different teams you can battle with each amiibo.
