Max Eisenhardt was born to a Jewish survivor, and to be the sole member who survived the Holocaust, taking the identity of Erik Lehnsherr. A mutant with the ability to control magnetic fields, he became a Nazi hunter after World War II and ended up befriending another mutant, Charles Xavier. While the two did strive against mutant racism, it soon became clear over time that while Charles wanted positive human-mutant relations, Erik had grown to have a misanthropic view of humanity and seeing mutants as the rightful rulers of the world. They two soon went their separate ways, with Charles forming the X-Men as Professor X, and Erik forming the Brotherhood of Mutants as Magneto.
