Niobium Moon Studios, formerly known as MGX Studios and Lone Planet Productions, is a video game developer and film/TV production company founded by NeoNio99 (tbc). Originally established in 2012 as the production company behind the "umbrella" film Super Mario Silver Spurs: The Crossover Vacation, the company has since grown and gone on to produce and develop more multimedia content, including multiple Mario and Sonic franchise games along with original projects like the Shadowcalypse series and Souls in Sync. They were one of the collaborators on the massive umbrella platform fighting game, The Mysterious Five Project, alongside Toroko, Keyhole Gaming, Fantasize Studios, and ShadowElise - all of which have since been defunct, but Niobium Moon has carried over a lot of its concepts to their own umbrella fighting game, Chaos Collision.

Niobium Moon was also responsible for the primary design choices of the Nintendo GameCube 2 and the Game Boy Hub, two ninth-generation video game consoles which run alongside the Nintendo Switch family, including the Nintendo Switch Plus console developed by Nintendo and fellow affiliate Krexxal (tbc). Prior to this, they had pitched the Lone Planet Impetus console, the Pharo and Nucleo platforms, and the LP Corona gaming PC.

Throughout the 2020s, Niobium Moon has taken a vocal stance against the "Sony-fication" of video games - as in, their decreasing accessibility due to the ever-increasing emphasis on "power" and graphics and the resulting increase in prices. Their mission is to redefine "power" in the context of the modern video game industry, seeking to "put the power back in the hands of the players" - a statement that calls back to the classic 1980s Nintendo slogan, "Now you're playing with power!" This philosophy is emphasized with console features like the Nintendo GameCube 2's expansive backwards compatibility and the Game Boy Hub's rewritable multimedia cartridges, as well as the GBH generally being far more open for smaller-scale "budget" titles.

Projects[]

Projects are listed in alphabetical order, with status reports from Nio himself.

Project Title Synopsis & Status
Bits & Pieces Vin the Byte must morph his way through a variety of platforming levels to save the city of Blockade from an evil Foreman, who wants to colonize it for his own selfish purposes.

Status: Not quite done yet. I will probably draw characters and finish levels in the near future.

BladeSwitch Players control the avatar character, whose default name is Rain, as they explore the futuristic society of Eclipsa and gather party members to navigate the conflict between the fragmented planet's empire and the Kane Intiative.

Status: Not even close to done, but I do have most of the main story and character concepts figured out.

Chaos Collision An umbrella platform fighting game where heroes and villains cross paths with each other in the newly created Brawlworld, ruled by God-Empress Eliza after she combines the essence of her parasite companion Sekhmet with the powers of the Chaos Emeralds.

Status: Full roster has been decided. Aside from that, definitely not done.

Kid Icarus: Sins of the Gods A 2D Kid Icarus game in the vein of the original NES title and Of Myths and Monsters. Pit and Dark Pit must stop Pandora, the new queen of Underworld, from exposing all the other gods' darkest secrets and bringing all mortal life under her command.

Status: Still in the early stages.

Mario Kart ReConnect Three Mario Kart games on the Switch, GameCube 2, and Game Boy Hub allow players to choose a unique roster and Grand Prix experience depending on their choice of game, and even engage in cross-platform races with one another.

Status: Roster done, tracks and other stuff not yet.

Mario Party: To The Max The party gets ramped up with all sorts of new features, with new sets of Cards shaking up the classic formula as all past partygoers return with a lot of newcomers joining them.

Status: Wanna get around to boards and minigames soon.

Shadow the Hedgehog: Outlands See the world as Shadow sees it in Niobium Moon Studios' first release on the Nintendo 3DVR.

Status: Haven't started yet, don't even have a story figured out right now.

Sonic Advance: Fast 4ward Sonic and his friends are blasted into a dark future, and the mysterious Orchid Queen wants to find her scepter and the Chaos Emeralds so she can travel to their time and take over before they have the chance to stop her.

Status: This is a simple project so there's not too much left to do.

Sonic Charge A Sonic Mania sequel where Sonic and his friends encounter a new digital dimension where female variants of Sonic and Dr. Robotnik reside. They'll travel between this world's all-new stages and their own dimension's classic Zones to stop both Robotnik and Omelette.

Status: Almost done, everything is pretty much sorted out.

Souls in Sync Maliah Silver and Empress Tilka are both on the run from bad guys who want them both dead - and it seems like they're destined to be a power couple. Together, they must stop the corporate overlord Jeffrey Knight and the demented goddess Paramora from making their respective schemes a reality.

Status: Should definitely draw the characters, maybe add items?

Super Guitar Hero Get the band ready for a nostalgia overload as you hit those frets to the rhythm of a huge catalog of rock songs both old and new.

Status: Will work on this on-and-off every now and then.

Super Mario Bros.: Chronological Calamity The Mario Bros. have a multiverse-sized problem on their hands when portals begin to open up and summon several variants of themselves and others into their world. To solve this problem, they'll have to team up with a certain blue hedgehog who's got some experience with a classic variant of his own.

Status: Still in the early stages, but I do have a playable roster planned.

Super Mario Hub: Super Mario Advance 5 Mario and friends must rescue Daisy and take back the kingdom of Sarasaland from Wario's dastardly clutches in a remake of Super Mario Land 1+2. Also included are remakes of the original Super Mario Bros., The Lost Levels, the Mario Bros. arcade game, Wrecking Crew, and Wrecking Crew '98.

Status: Not exactly urgent of a project, but maybe I could expand on some things?

Super Mario Realms In an all-new 2D Mario adventure, the alien invader Tatanga and the mermaid enchantress Aqualea join forces to take over the Mushroom World by brainwashing Bowser, King K. Rool, Wart, and all their soldiers. It's up to the Mario crew to stop them.

Status: Decided to revert the page back to its old 2017 look, which I'm personally happier with. Now all I really need to do is finish up the Special Worlds and some other little things.

Wario's Woods: Rotten Ruckus Wario builds a casino in the accursed Crimson Bayou and awakens an army of zombie Toads in the process, so Toad and Toadette are sent in to fix the mess he made.

Status: Just started.

Weirdo Valley A top-down shooter where four unlikely heroes form a squadron to take on the forces of Patricia Blisson's dystopian society and a swarm of flesh-craving demons known as the Mindless - whom Patricia wants to use to cleanse the world of its sins.

Status: Not done yet, but it should be simple enough.

Legacy Articles[]

These pages are not considered canon to any of NeoNio99 (tbc)'s more recent content and do not live up to his current standards, but will be kept as they are for future reference in new projects where applicable. Please note that since these are some of the company's earliest works, there are bound to be some inconsistencies and questionable phrasing/plot choices throughout.

Projects are listed in order of their initial conception. Recreations of other old projects that have previously been deleted will also go here.

Project Title Synopsis
Super Mario Silver Spurs: The Crossover Vacation A weary Mario wants to take a relaxing summer vacation to get away from all the hard work and difficulties of being the Mushroom Kingdom's hero. Boom Boom: Mystery of the Koopa Troop After Boom Boom and Pom Pom are fired from the Koopa Troop, they end up working for King Boo and Lady Bow and are sent on a quest to retrieve a mysterious artifact with close ties to Bowser's ancestry. Mario and his teammates are framed for crimes committed by the Cosmic Clones, and they must track down the culprit to clear their names.
Super Mario Silver Spurs 3: Endgame Mario's birthday is crudely interrupted by the Ender Dragon, who warps Mario to an alternate timeline where he never even existed. Working alongside them is the young son of Nergal, who seems to be quite interested in the mysterious eighth Chaos Emerald.
Cartoon Network vs. Sega: Sports Clash The sequel to CN vs. Nintendo, this time featuring SEGA characters in a sports compilation. In Championship Mode, Vilgax and Eggman Nega seek to wreak havoc on the sports tourney - as long as unhinged TV host Chris McLean of Total Drama fame doesn't cause too much trouble for the contestants first.
Destination Timewarp: An Adventure Time/Dexter's Laboratory Crossover In a universe where the events of Dexter's Laboratory and Adventure Time occur in the same timeline, boy genius Dexter must work with distant future heroes Finn and Jake to put a stop to the plans of their nemeses, Mandark and the Ice King - all while another mysterious enemy sends out a dark copy of Finn to take them down.

Sonic Venom A classic-style Sonic game for the Nintendo 3DS, primarily inspired by the Game Gear installments like Sonic Chaos and Sonic Triple Trouble. Sonic 5 & Chill Sonic the Hedgehog 5 and Sonic & Chill brought more Classic Sonic excitement into the current age, even before Sonic Mania made it cool. In these two games, Sonic and his friends take on Robotnik and his new companion Chill the Cyberwolf, who seeks to protect his homeworld, the Hex Planet, from any and all outsiders.
