Regardless of Type, all Kotomo have the ability to channel the force known as V-Energy, which is itself created by the presence of a highly powerful Kotomo known as Valia. By utilizing V-Energy, Kotomo are able to perform incredible feats of magical power and enhance their physical capabilities, as well as under go the Advancement process that helps them grow and mature. It is also through the use of V-Energy that Kotomo are able to bond with their human companions, letting them act in sync with one another; unfortunately, without the presence of V-Energy, a Kotomo's life force begins to drain.
Common traits among Kotomo include a sense of curiosity and playful attitude, as well as being able to connect well with humans who have similar hearts to their own. Trivia[]
- The name Kotomo is derived from a portmanteau of the Japanese heiko tomo, translating to "Parallel Friend". This is similar in structure to the Pocket Monster portmanteau in the Pokémon name.
- While all Kotomo names are provided in canon by the player character, each one also has a name written in some form of intelligible script that is seen upon first encounter with a new species. This is implied to be the actual native name for the Kotomo within the society of the Kotomo world, with the translated names being inspired by physical appearance alone.
