Kirby and Pac-Man: Hourglass Empire is an action RPG and a crossover between the Kirby and Pac-Man series, developed by Lone Planet Productions in cooperation with Square Enix, who is known for their Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts games.

Things are getting dire in the remote world known as the Hourglass Empire. Ruled by a melancholy queen named Owasia, this land has been going through a dark age with no power, no food, and no light. Owasia wants to put an end to all the death and sorrow that is spreading, so she decides to build an army using Century Helmets, ancient helmets her archaeologists have uncovered. When equipped with a good source of energy (in Owasia's case, Robobot cores she recovered from the events of Planet Robobot) the helmets will alter the memory of whoever wears them. Owasia builds her army with Invader Armor, insects from Floralia, fairies from Ripple Star, etc., and sends her soldiers out to find the Chronoglass, a mystical hourglass that, when shattered, will stop the day/night cycle and keep everyone from aging.

She soon discovers two potential enemies in the form of Kirby, the pink hero of Dream Land, and Pac-Man, the yellow defender of Pac-Land. Realizing that they could pose a huge threat together, she decides to gather up some of their old enemies and pit the heroes against each other. Owasia summons Marx, Dark Matter, Magolor, and Queen Sectonia from Kirby's memories, and Toc-Man, Erwin, the Mollusc, and the Ghost Witch of Netor from Pac-Man's memories.
