This article is strictly about how Kirby appears in Super Smash Stadium. For information about him in general, see his article.

Kirby (SSS) SSB Kirby Series
Kirby
Home Universe: Kirby
Canon Debut: Kirby's Dreamland 1, Game Boy, 1992
Home Stage: Green Greens
SSS Debut: September 4, 1972
Previous Character to Debut: Mario
Next Character to Debut: Luigi
In a canon Smash game? yes
Canon Smash Debut: Smash 64

Tied with Pikachu and Mario as the very first character to debut on Super Smash Stadium, Kirby is a playable character. He debuted alongside Green Greens.

In his own universe

Kirby does little to dispel the stereotype of Nintendo being childish. He acts something like a baby himself, and his home world is overly cute, bright, and childish. His primary activities seem to be eating and sleeping. Most media has waffled on his intelligence and his ability to speak. The voice he has in SSS doesn't seem to be typical of whatever species he is, as Metaknight is the same species yet is capable of adult human speech.

Despite this, his video games are on par with many of Mario's adventures, and the fact that he is able to quickly learn how to perfectly copy his opponents' abilities hints that there's something more to him than he lets on.

Attributes

The first name of Kirby's game is floatiness. He is one of the floatiest characters on SSS. In addition to this, he has five jumps. This means that if you don't kill him with a move, he's probably coming back.

The second name of his game is his neutral special move. Being able to copy opponents' moves can be a huge boon to Kirby, depending on what he can get.

Outside of these options, though, Kirby is somewhat slow, weak, and predictable.

Changes

  • Season 4: To this day, it's not fully understood if this was a glitch or not, but Kirby's up tilt, a kicking attack, gained a MASSIVE hitbox, about 15 times bigger than his actual foot. Spamming this move caused opponents to rack up damage extremely quickly, as much as 80% in some cases. Also, his down air gained priority high enough to "eat combos", and every hit became a Meteor Smash. Since a good lot of the cast at the time had bad vertical recoveries, this also made him broken.
  • Season 15: Severely nerfed. Debut of the infamous "Kirbycide". It should be noted that some of the nerfs were possibly due to glitches involving his throws.
  • Season 36: Regained some of his former strength, but not all of it. His most egregious problems were fixed.
  • Season 47: Got a power boost at the expense of his grabs.

Moveset

Entrance: Falls in on a Warp Star.

Move Name Description
Neutral Special:

Inhale

Kirby sucks in an opponent. You can then press A Button to spit them back out as a star, or B Button to copy their neutral special move. Kirby will then gain a hat corresponding to the fighter he copied. Taunting or taking damage from a heavy hit causes Kirby to lose the copied move. Kirby can also eat items, which will heal him for 1% a pop unless it's a bomb (which does 10%), a healing item (heals by its usual amount), or a transforming item (gives him its usual effect).

Ashley Variant: Ashley can't copy any abilities, since she already had to use her down special to "copy" Kirby, and ditches her transformations in the same way!

Copying can't kill.
Spitting opponents out can't kill in and of itself, but if the opponent hits other opponents, they can die at 100%.
Kirby's ability to kill with a copy ability depends on what exactly he copied; see that player's page for more.

Side Special:

Hammer Flip

Similar to Dedede's Jet Hammer. Kirby swings a flaming hammer at his opponents that he charge, but don't overcharge or he'll start to take recoil. Is very laggy if used in the air for some reason.

Kills at 25-40% when fully charged.

Before Season 39, he swung the hammer at opponents, and swung twice if he used it in the air.
This version of the move killed at 75%.
Before Season 36, the air version of the hammer was significantly weaker, and Kirby swung it around him vertically. He could not kill this way.

Up Special:

Cutter

Drawing a sword, Kirby flips up into the air, then lands, cutting anyone who gets in his way. The sword then unleashes a shockwave that can do further damage. Kirby can only be rendered helpless from this move if he is interrupted while he's in the air.

Kills at 150% on the way up.
Meteor Smashes on the way down.
Shockwave can't kill.

Down Special:

Stone

Kirby turns into a rock, becoming invincible and doing moderate damage and knockback to anyone he hits on the way down. Lasts five seconds, or you can press B Button to cancel it early. As with shields, Kirby can still be grabbed. If he gets hit by a move that does too much damage, he'll be knocked out of the stone and take severe knockback (but no damage). Among the stones he can turn into:
  • The stone that he turns into in his own games, a pink rock with slanted eyes. (Before Season 15, this was the only stone he could turn into.)
  • A Thwomp. (Before Season 36, he used the Super Mario 64 incarnation.)
  • A 100-ton weight.
  • A Garbage Block from Panel de Pon
  • A spiked ball
  • Starting in Season 47, a Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild-style Treasure Chest

Kills at 115%.

Final Smash:

Cook

Pulls out a pot, and draws in any nearby fighters and items. After about five seconds, all fighters get blasted out with huge knockback, while numerous items (usually Food, Maxim Tomatoes, and Curry) also pop out.

Kills at 100%

Taunts

  • Up Taunt: Does the Kirby Dance.
  • Side Taunt: Spins around on one foot and says "Nyum!" when finished.
  • Down Taunt: His famous "Hi!" pose.

Victory

  • Pose: Again, does the Kirby Dance.
  • Theme: Team Kirby's victory theme.
  • "No Contest"/Loss Theme: Team Kirby's loss theme.

Costumes

  • Default: His regular pink color.
  • Keeby: A yellow color.
  • Blue
  • Red
  • Green
  • Game Boy: The white color scheme he used for Kirby's Dreamland 1.
  • Purple
  • Black: Gives Kirby a color scheme similar to what Metaknight looks like with his mask off.
