Kirby: Dimension Ring

Kirby: Dimension Ring is a Kirby game to be released for the Nintendo Hypercube. Its release date is unknown, but confirmed to be in 2016. It is part of an exclusive deal by Nintendo and GD Gaming Studios. 

Gameplay

Kirby: Dimension Ring is similar to other games such as Kirby's Return To Dream Land and Kirby: Triple Deluxe in that it is a 2D game with 3D graphics. The formula is very close to Triple Deluxe, even bringing back the different layers and 3D Warp Stars. In order to be more engaged with the different grounds, however, players can press L or R to make Kirby face the background or foreground, allowing him to fight back and perform new moves.

Perhaps the biggest new feature of the game is the Dimension Worlds. Due to a key event in the storyline, Kirby is able to interact with Power Plants he finds throughout the levels and warp into the Dimension World. Said world twists around a lot of aspects of the real world, and this is also true for Kirby himself: his inhale has been transformed in an exhale attack that can send enemies flying, move heavy blocks, and unlock certain areas.

Like in past Kirby games, there are plenty of collectibles to earn this time around. The main collectibles are the Dimension Rings. Players need to capture a certain number of Dimension Rings in a world to move on to the world boss. There are also Capsules that players can find within every level. These capsules can be turned back into the hub for extra stars or to crack them open and reveal a small figure that you can view.

According to the director of the game, Kirby: Dimension Ring "delves into the aspect of 3D travel much more than before, with some cases featuring 3D backgrounds and control, and is a test to see the reception and possibility of a fully 3-dimensional Kirby game in the near future".

Extra Mode

This game also features an Extra Mode which is unlocked after you beat the regular mode once. This mode goes over the "true events" of the story. The beginning of the new mode shows off that everything post Kirby getting knocked out by the ring in the normal mode was nothing but a nightmare that Lace had of losing Zuringa. Determined that this time she can't back out, she manages to show up just in time to find that Kirby was hit by the ring. She loads it up in her Star Mixer so that she has the ability to travel into the Dimension World, and then chases after Zuringa.

Lace's permanent ability is the Star Mixer.  It inhales similar to Kirby but it has a storage section that safekeeps the enemies you inhale. These enemies can be fused to make health or larger ammo. The ability mixer also performs some other moves in order to solve puzzles. While most Dimension areas are skipped, there are still Dimension Bosses (though no controls change). In addition, Bandana Dee is the only playable multiplayer character in Extra Mode, as Kirby does not appear anywhere in Extra Mode asides from the ending.

The Arena

The Arena and the True Arena also return from past games, mostly unchanged. However, notably, the Dimension Bosses are not to be found in the normal Arenas. There are now Dimension Arenas that Kirby can fight in to defeat the Dimension bosses. There are 2 of these Dimension Arenas, which are counterparts of The Arena and True Arena. Daroach makes a surprise appearance as a boss in The True Arena, and Dimension Soul is the surprise final boss.

Subgames

Similar to past Kirby games, Kirby: Dimension Ring introduces new minigames that are seperate from the main game. There are 2 new minigames in particular: Fishing Frenzy and Animal Buddy Races. In addition, the game also features demos of Kirby Fighters Duel and Dedede's Drum Dash Spotlight in order to promote the upcoming games.

Fishing Frenzy

Fishing Frenzy is a new minigame where Kirby and his friends are out at sea trying to harvest fish for food. This game makes use of the Hyperpad's Touch Screen to let you tap fish repeatedly in order to hook them. There are 5 levels of difficulty in the game, where the following aquatic enemies can be hooked:

• Flotzo (30 points)
• Barracu (50 points)
• Squishy (100 points)
• Fatty Whale (500 points)
• Cutfish (-10 points)
• Sawgill (-40 points)
• Gordo (-100 points)

The minigame can be played with up to four players. The main goal of the game is to collect enough points by the end of the day, and players must work together to earn these points. However, it also features a competitive aspect by challenging players to get the most points out of everyone.

Animal Buddy Races

Animal Buddy Races is a single player minigame where players aim to win a racing tournament with the help of the Animal Buddies. Players choose an Animal Buddy to enter in the tournament, and then take on a group of races with an environment related to them (Rick on land, Kine in water, etc) The game makes use of the Hyperpad's gyro controls, as players must tilt up and down to jump and duck in an attempt to avoid obstacles. The following rides can be chosen, each with their own courses in 4 difficulties:

Story

As usual, the Kirby game usually introduces a story as a reason to go on an adventure. Notably, however, this Kirby game is the first to feature a drastically different story between the normal and extra modes.

Normal Mode

One sunny day, Kirby was running away from King Dedede and Bandana Dee as Kirby had found a shiny ring but Dedede wanted it for himself. Meanwhile, a mysterious creature who was soaring through the sky notices the ring and wants to take it for himself; however, when he attacks, King Dedede accidentally throws the ring and it hits Kirby, knocking him unconscious. Dedede and said creature try to grab it in the air, but miss as it lands in Kirby's mouth. Both of the characters are shown to be deeply disappointed by this result.

While the creature flies away, a nearby fairy who was watching the ordeal walks up to Kirby and carries him to his house. The fairy says her name is Lace and that she has a "rather complicated" past with the mysterious figure, who is named Zuringa. She explains his evil plan to suck up the entire planet of Pop Star into his own dimension, and begs that Kirby, King Dedede, and Bandana Dee go and stop him.

Eventually, Kirby and the gang find Zuringa again at the end of Pancake Plains, setting up another area to encapture using the Dimension Rings, but quickly makes his leave when he notices Kirby, preventing him from being seen by the boss of the world. This same process repeats for all the worlds until Noodle Nebula. At the beginning of Noodle Nebula, Kirby notices that Zuringa has done set up all the Dimension Rings on Pop Star, unbeknowest of the fact that Kirby has destroyed most of them, and sets out for his base on Eclair Ending. With the help of Lace, the heroes try to catch up to him, but with all the enemies in the way it serves little use. Knowing what to do, King Dedede calls for Kabula as it appears and demands a match to prove Kirby is worthy of riding.

After Kabula's defeat, the heroes ride her on the way to Eclair Ending. Eventually, they catch up to Zuringa before he can make it to his base; horrified by the discovery, he tries to set up another Dimension Ring to capture the heroes, but a star knocks it out of his hand and into Kabula's cannon, revealing Taoistar as he attacks. When Taoistar is defeated, Kirby notices that Zuringa had taken the chance to flee to Eclair Ending. When they finally reach Eclair Ending, they waved goodbye to Kabula as they made their way up to Zuringa's lair.

Eventually, Kirby, assisted by King Dedede, makes it into Zuringa's lair, only to notice that it's a trap. King Dedede sacrifices himself and throws Kirby out of the trap, capturing himself in the process. Kirby chases after Dedede to rescue him, triggering the battle against Dimension Dedede. However, this whole event was nothing more than another way to buy time so that Zuringa could escape again. Eventually, he is finally cornered by Kirby and Lace, and finally agrees to battle against the two. After his first defeat, he is sent flying backwards upset over his loss, before a swarm of darkness erupts out of one of Zuringa's rings and covers up Zuringa, transforming him into Zuringa Unleashed.

Following his second defeat, Zuringa realizes it is foolish to keep fighting and leaves another dark swarm to deal with Kirby while he escapes through the Dimension Ring. However, the dark swarm is quickly defeated by Kirby and used as ammo to reopen the Dimension Portal. Inside, they fight Dimension Zuringa, and manage to wear him out enough to lure him into the depths of the Dimension World. Zuringa is fooled by Kirby and Lace as he tries to escape, only to notice that going deeper would make the conditions impossible to survive through. Kirby is fired out of the Star Mixer and manages to knock Zuringa into the portal and destroy the dark swarm. Zuringa's last words are how proud he is that his inventions have led him this far and how powerful Kirby, as well as oddly, his love for Lace, but he doesn't finish his sentences in time as he is turned into dust, decimated completely.

Eventually, Kirby and Lace are sent flying out of the portal, and now that their mission is done, they fly together back to where the adventure started. King Dedede, Bandana Dee, the Meta Knights, and many other enemies Kirby encountered along the way are celebrating the defeat of Zuringa, but nobody seems to notice that Lace is none too happy with the result, almost crying over the fact that she won. The final screen shows a picture of Lace mourning the loss of Zuringa with a picture of him in front of her, and the dark swarm that captured Zuringa standing tall over her like a shadow. The picture is then washed away by two tears that drop from the top of the screen, and an ominous "The End?" is shown...

In this story, Kirby must aid the lost fairy Lace in taking down Zuringa and preventing him from absorbing Pop Star's power. Nothing will stop this pink puffball now!...Except for maybe some snacks.	Hero Kirby is the main playable character and the only character that Player 1 can play as (until the main game is beat, where Bandana Dee as a solo character and Extra Mode is unlocked) as well as the only character with Copy Abilities.
	King Dedede	The king of Dream Land is always switching sides; sometimes he's a helper at heart, and sometimes his greediness gets in the way of the heroes. This time, however, Dedede is stuck in this whole mess, and must reluctantly help Kirby on his way to defeat Zuringa.	Helper In some levels, King Dedede will appear to assist Kirby. Similarly to Kirby 64, characters must control King Dedede in order to clear obstacles and carry Kirby to the end of the level. He is the playable character in Dedede's Drum Dash Spotlight and a playable character in Fishing Frenzy.
	Meta Knight	Does anybody really know who Meta Knight is? He looks an awful lot like Kirby, but he sure doesn't seem to act like this. Meta Knight is always hidden away until just the right time, and you'll never know what he's up to until you actually see him. What could Meta Knight be planning now?	Rival In some levels, Meta Knight will appear randomly. His role changes from summoning the Meta-Knights into battle to helping out Kirby with an item frequently. He also is playable if you fail too much in a level, as well as in Fishing Frenzy.
	Bandana Dee	The right hand man of King Dedede is very loyal to him; or at least, that's what he claims. It's a bit odd that he's way more friendly to Kirby though. What kind of relationship do they have? It doesn't matter either way, because Bandana Dee will still be there to help! Go, Bandana Dee!	Sidekick Asides from a differently colored Kirby, Bandana Dee and his friends are the other playable character in both Normal and Extra Mode, as well as being a playable character in the 2 new minigames. He wields a permanent Spear ability with some twists.
	Zuringa	A mysterious craftsman from a far away planet, he lives a life of solitude and makes rings for his pleasure, as it reminds him of his past life. Something's up, however, as Zuringa has taken a turn to the bad side and is now attempting to engulf Pop Star in another dimension!	Villain Zuringa is a major villain within Kirby: Dimension Ring. Within the story mode, you'll find him setting up Power Plants throughout the lands and you'll finally face off against him in the final level. He has a little more to say if you play as Lace, however...
	Lace	Rumors say she used to work for Zuringa, but went against his attempts at evil. Now, she seeks the help of a true Pop Star hero, in order to defeat Zuringa and get him back to his senses. She seems rather reluctant in doing so...what secrets could she be hiding?!	Ally Lace is the character that you're helping out in the story. She runs the hub store in Kirby's House, where players can check out their figurines or turn in capsules. She's no idle layabout, however; if there's need for help then Lace will be on the scene to give Kirby a lift.

	Bonkers	Bonkers is a recurring foe in the Kirby series, and is a large ape with purple armor, blue ripped jeans, and a large hammer. Bonkers attacks mainly by swinging his hammer around. His techniques with the hammer include slamming it up to 3 times, spinning around with it, and charging a Hammer Flip. Bonkers can also throw all sorts of explosive coconuts.
	Bugzzy	Bugzzy was a recurring enemy in Kirby's older adventures, and makes a comeback in this game now sporting some new attacks. Most of Bugzzy's older moves are still intact, including charging into Kirby for a grab and spawning Mini Bugs. However, Bugzzy has a plethora of different attacks such as flying up and stomping Kirby, and drilling into the ground for a shockwave. Buggzy himself gives the Throw ability, but inhaling his Mini-Bugs yields the Beetle Ability.
	Mr. Frosty	Mr. Frosty is an old-time foe of Kirby's, being a large seal like creature sporting overalls and the ability to spit ice. Said ice can be thrown up high or slid on the floor. Despite his appearance, Mr. Frosty moves gracefully and uses these techniques to spin in air and skate on land, in an attempt to grab Kirby and freeze him.
	Fire Lion	As the name implies, Fire Lion is a literally a fire lion; the fur on its main and tail being replaced with sizzling flames. Fire Lion attacks by curling into a fireball and blazing ahead, as well as through jumps and claw swipes in an attempt to grab Kirby and eat him. Fire Lion has also gained some new tactics, with the ability to summon a ring of embers to chase after Kirby and spitting fiery blasts.
	Mega Pierce	Mega Pierce gets his name from the fact that he resembles a larger Pierce: a bee with armor that wields dual spears. Mega Pierce flies after Kirby in the air, meaning ground attacks may be ineffective. Mega Pierce uses the dual spears for many attacks, from quick jabs to spinning blades to even earth strikes. Mega Pierce can also curl into a spiked ball and chase after Kirby. He gives Needle, but players can also choose to inhale his spears to get Spear.
	Dashdance	If you couldn't tell by the name, Dashdance specializes in 2 things: dashing and dancing, but he only uses one of those in fights. Dashdance wears rollerskates that allow it to move swiftly at high speeds, which can make the fight a lot harder as Dashdance is always moving. Dashdance attacks through spins with outstretched legs, spiraling hops, and even firing the skate's wheels as a high speed projectile.	Rollerblade
	Vortriox	Vortriox bears a resemblance to the mid-boss Gigant Edge, being a giant yellow armored golem with a similar look to a Twister. Despite being covered in armor, Vortriox is somehow light enough to fly in the air by spinning and turning into a tornado, chasing Kirby and then drilling into the ground, which is its preferred method of attacking. Vortriox also makes use of its many arms to try and grab Kirby before slamming him.
	Captain Blaster	Captain Blaster himself looks a bit like a giant Gordo, but with an evil smirk and body parts such as hands and shoes. Captain Blaster wears a giant Shotzo cannon on his head which is his main method of attack. The Shotzo will fire different colored cannonballs, spew out laser beams, and even a rain of missiles. Captain Blaster's most devastating attack is launching himself into the cannon's hole and then controlling it like a rocket as it slowly chases after Kirby and explodes. When the cannon explodes, Captain Blaster is left defenseless. Captain Blaster cannot be damaged with the cannon on at all.
	Meta-Knights	The Meta-Knights are a group of warriors led by the same person that the team is named after. The Meta-Knights actually are comprised of a bunch of ordinary enemies that work together to unleash devastating attacks. They are made of Ax Knights, Trident Knights, Mace Knights, Javelin Knights, and Elite Sword Knights.

	Jawgob	Jawgob is a giant dragon-like creature made of candy, and looks similar to Fatty Puffer in basic shape. Jawgob attacks by spitting milk balls that make the ground slippery as well as tough to break jawbreakers. Jawgob uses a variety of different sweets for his battle tactics, such as a chocolate bar sword and lollipop hammers. Jawgob can also liquify itself in order to move more quickly, and attacks by chasing Kirby as he runs across the ground and then jumping upwards.	Icing Isles
	Kracko	This one-eyed cloud monster is a common sight in most Kirby games, and this one is no exception. In this game Kracko starts off in his smaller cloud form known as Kracko Jr. Kracko Jr. attacks through erratic swoops, dropping bomb tears, and spawning Waddle Doos. At half health, Kracko Jr. transforms into its full form, with a much wider array of attacks. It can transform into a giant cloud rocket and launch through the background, cause lightning to strike around the stage, shoot rapid-fire beam blasts, and create spinning tornadoes. 	Omelites	The Omelites are a group of grey metal balls that can morph together to form numerous things, controlled by an eye-like Omelite called the Core Omelite. The Omelites have a ton of health and are separated into 6 forms. The first form covers the entire screen, where the Core will disappear and reappear shooting lasers, along with some fake lookalikes. The second form is a giant cube machine that will deal a lot of damage if you get struck by its arms and body slams. The third form is a UFO that zips around quickly and only opens up to attack, revealing the Core inside. The fourth form has the Core controlling four thin swords who attack swiftly, and can even merge into a spider like creature that crawls around. The fifth form is a copy of Kirby, who just jumps around and floats while shooting lasers. The last form is the Core Omelite by itself, which just chases after Kirby.	Omelette Outpost
	Kabula	Unlike previous fights with this giant blimp, there is nothing that lets you battle air to air. Rather, while controlling King Dedede, the player must avoid the Shotzo fire and other attacks that Kabula will unleash. Every once in a while, Kabula will open up and fire a large black missile. King Dedede must hit this missile in the right direction so it will hit Kabula. Once Kabula is defeated, you can ride on it and sail your way to the moon.	Noodle Nebula Stage 5
	Taoistar	Taoistar is a mage-like space creature who is said to hold the fabric of space together. Upset by the imbalance of space that Zuringa has caused, he unleashes his fury on poor Kirby. Taoistar carries a Starlus (basically a Star Stylus) in order to attack. Taoistar can draw enemies and other hazards through the Starlus in order to attack Kirby. He can also connect stars with them to form constellations that he'll use in attacks. Being the keeper of space, he also manipulates this power in battle, such as causing mini black holes and reversing the controls.	Noodle Nebula
	Dimension Dedede	Dimension Dedede is not fought on Pop Star.	Eclair Ending Part 1
	Zuringa	It's finally time to battle Zuringa! Zuringa relies on portals to get around, as his power seems to be rather limited. However, as the creator of the rings, you can expect many tricks to emerge from this. He can trap Kirby inside an area within his rings and try to attack, forcing him to avoid through only running or only jumping. He can also throw rings as all sorts of projectiles, from spinning boomerangs to whirling tornados to even moving black holes! Zuringa also notably fights using a lot of ice-based attacks and machinery; any chance to inhale these must be used, as the rings can't be stopped!	Eclair Ending (Part 1)
	Zuringa Unleashed	Despite Zuringa being defeated once, his power seems to be way stronger than ever before! How is it possible? Now that his strength is near limitless, Zuringa's battle capabilities has increased tenfold; just to name a few, there's the ability to sprout giant spikes, send out rings that chase after Kirby, fire multiple laser beams at once, open a screen wide black hole, create rotating pillars of flame, and of course the classic Kirby villain technique of teleportation. During the battle, Lace will appear and try to help with her Star Mixer. Once she charges up her Star Mixer, throw an attack in there and she'll unleash a lightning barrage to stun Zuringa and prevent him from moving!	Eclair Ending (Part 2)

Abilities

There are 36 total Abilities in Kirby: Dimension Ring. There are 7 new Copy Abilities, those being Baton, Propellor, Psychic, Rollerblade, Shovel, Treat, and Dimension.  The rest are returning from one game or another.

Also please excuse the really crappy Dimension Kirby art and the fact that the other new abilities are in Kirby Super Star Ultra style rather than 3D Kirby style, I'm not a pro at 3D arts :P

	Stone		Harness the powers of the earth as you turn into a giant stone. You're completely invincible and you can slide down slopes and defeat enemies quickly. You're kinda stuck and unable to move until you get out, however...	Rocky
	Sword		Hiya! Chop up your enemies with this trusty sword, normally belonging only to the swordsmasters. If you're full in health, you can unleash Sword Beams. Finish off any foe with a Skyward Slash Dash!	Blade Knight
	Throw		At first glance, it doesn't look like Kirby is any different asides from a flashy new inhale and a blue headband....but check out what happens when you inhale an enemy! Grab them! Then throw them in one of 8 different directions!	Phan
	Treat		Your foes will be in for a sweet surprise when they see just what Treat Kirby can do! Hurl all sorts of sweets and have certain delectables aid you in combat! It's surprisingly effective.	Sweety
	Tornado		Let all your worries loose as you curl up into a swirling tornado and take off! It's a bit hard to control, but there isn't much that can't stand the raging strength of a tornado, so the pros and cons balance out.	Twister
	Water		Hang ten as you surf the seven seas...or, well, the tiny sea that Water Kirby makes for a dash. Water is good at putting out all sorts of enemies, and you can trap them in bubbles for a follow up move!	Water Galbos
	Whip		Whip Kirby is always ready for adventure! This thin but powerful lasso has a very long reach, so you can take on foes from a comfortable distance. You can grab enemies with the lasso, and even some items too!	Whippy
	Wing		Fly at unrivaled speeds, and have some colorful looks while you pull it off! Some of Wing Kirby's moves like the Feather Gun may seem fragile, but try out his dives for some serious fast-paced power!	Birdon
	Yo-Yo		Yo-yo-yo! What was thought to be nothing more than a simple child's toy is now a surprisingly effective combat weapon! Swing your yo-yo around and perform some rad tricks to really show off!	Gim

Items

	Star	These tiny star-shaped metals are found all over Dream Land. Collecting 100 will grant you an extra life, so make sure to grab them!
	Food	All sorts of food can be found lying around in Dream Land as a result of Dedede's dirty work back on the Game Boy. Food will heal you, and the amount of health you get back depends on the food.
	Pep Brew	One of the more common healing items within the game. Collecting one will restore half of your health, and are usually found before minibosses or in secret rooms.
	Maxim Tomato	This red tomato is the ultimate healing item; simply touching it will refill your health meter completely! However, they're very rare and normally only found in secret areas.
	Revival Tomato	This orange Maxim Tomato has a slightly different purpose. If you use it, you'll be surrounded with an aura that instantly revives you to full health when you die! It's only found after failing a lot in levels.
	Invincibility Candy	This sugar-filled lollipop will grant Kirby with a burst of invincibility! It'll let you run through at top speeds and charge right through enemies!
	1-Up	An item that resembles a Kirby holding the number 1 on it. Collecting it automatically gets you a life, but they are extremely rare.
	1-Up Chip	These items look like tiny 1-Ups, but without the 1! They are fragments of a 1-Up and collecting 10 gets you an extra life.
	Ability Holder	An orb that contains a stored ability inside. These are generally rare and only seen when you need such an ability to continue, or before a boss to give you an extra fighting option.
	Dimension Ring	These mysterious rings can be found throughout every level, and you'll need to collect enough to have Lace open the boss gate in each world.
	Warp Star	This giant star can be found in some levels, and they will lend Kirby a ride to another part of the stage. It doesn't do much, but it sure is scenic.
	3D Warp Star	A hollow Warp Star device that allows you to switch between foreground and background. Yellow centered ones can be used indefinitely, while orange centered ones are only used once.
	Capsule	There are 5 capsules hidden in each level, with 1 being a special rare one. Crack them open at the hub for a figurine, or turn them in for cash!

Noodle Nebula	Reach for the stars! You have to cross the farthest areas in order to find Zuranga's lair. After getting a ride from a blimp, it's up to you to cross this planetary place.	Kabula, Yin-Star
Eclair Ending	A small planet isolated from Pop Star, at the very top is Zuranga's workhouse. It may be dangerous, but the world depends on you!	Dimension Bosses, Zuranga
