K. Rool is a playable character on Super Smash Stadium. He debuted in Season 4, right alongside his pride and joy.
In his own universe[]
"King" K. Rool is the "kaptain" of a "krew" of pirates known as the Kremlings. When they are first encountered, they want Donkey Kong's banana hoard for reasons unknown. The instruction manual of Donkey Kong Country 1 seems to imply that DK has been doing battle with them for quite some time before the game's events. They finally succeed when one day, he decides to put Diddy in charge. Since Diddy was ill-equipped to take on the Kremlings, they steal the banana hoard easily, incurring the wrath of DK, who teams up with Diddy to get his bananas back and beat K. Rool down.
Battered, bruised, and unwilling to take an L, K. Rool gets his revenge a year later by kidnapping DK. This proves to be a huge mistake, as Diddy and his new girlfriend Dixie Kong raid K. Rool's own island to take him down.
A year after that, K. Rool (known as "Baron K. Roolenstein" in this game for some reason) kidnaps both DK AND Diddy, and essentially uses them as batteries for his robot, KAOS, whom he makes the "new" leader of the Kremlings in an attempt to get the heat off of him. Dixie and her newfound "charge", Kiddy Kong, aren't fooled, and beat him down a third time.
Finally, three years later, K. Rool is so butthurt at his multiple beatdowns that he comes at the Kongs with a mechanical Crocodile Isle and a new machine called the Blast-O-Matic, in an attempt to destroy DK Island and get rid of the Kongs for good. But even this scheme ultimately fails, thanks in part to him making the grave mistake of kicking the Blast-O-Matic's chief designer, Snide the Weasel, off his team. The fact that he thought that this was a perfectly acceptable solution to a bunch of apes ruining his plans to steal fruit that crocodiles can't even eat properly speaks volumes about him.
It should be noted that in The World of Nintendo, K. Rool died early in November 2010, in an episode designed to set up the events of DK Country Returns and put the Tiki Tak Tribe in charge. Despite this, he still continued to appear on SSS. This is unusual, considering Coach Ellington was kicked off the show after her own death in Life in FCHS, and the Mushroom Kingdom changing rulers in that show from Peach to Marth was acknowledged for nearly a decade.
Attributes[]
Tied with Bowser for weight and speed, K. Rool has several advantages over the Koopa King, the first and most notable being his "belly armor". Basically, he has Super Armor on his belly, and any attack that has it sticking out, such as his down Smash or his running attack, triggers it, thus giving him a tactical advantage over opponents. However, the armor isn't foolproof: use it too much and K. Rool will suffer the equivalent of a shield break.
His second advantage is his wider movepool. He possesses multiple good power moves as well as two projectiles. He also has a good grabbing game.

Moveset[]
Entrance: Drops down and laughs.
Move Name | Description |
---|---|
Neutral Special:
Blunderbuss |
Fires a cannonball from the giant pirate gun he used in DKC2. The cannonball is quite slow and doesn't do much, but you can hold and the gun will engage a vacuum function that will suck in opponents and spit them back out, or perhaps suck in the cannonball itself. A relaunched cannonball goes much faster and does far more damage.
Sucked-in opponents can be killed at 100%; the re-launched cannonball kills at 70%. |
Side Special:
Crownerang |
K. Rool's signature from DKC1, he throws his crown like a boomerang, doing minor damage and knockback. The crown is weaker when it's returning to him. When throwing, he has Super Armor up to 12%. The crown is not guaranteed to return to K. Rool, as opponents can intercept it and turn it back against him. Should the crown be lost, it will keep respawning until he either picks it up or dies.
Cannot kill. |
Up Special:
Propeller Pack |
Part of his "Baron K. Roolenstein" outfit from DKC3, K. Rool engages a jetpack, allowing him to fly anywhere on the stage for 10 seconds unless you press to cancel it early. He can span the entire length of Final Destination using this, but it's somewhat hard to steer, though. The propeller can damage opponents, and it's possible to drag them to the upper kill zone, although they can DI out of this after a while.
Kills at 0% via the cheap death; cannot kill otherwise. |
Down Special:
Gut Check |
K. Rool puffs his belly out, countering any attack that lands there as well as reflecting any projectiles. This is a risky option as it uses up the belly armor very quickly.
Its ability to kill is dependent on what was countered. |
Final Smash:
Blast-O-Matic |
K. Rool stomps, then lunges forward by half a Final Destination. Anyone he catches in this mess suffers through a cutscene in which they are laid out on DK Island as he fires up the Blast-O-Matic and blows it up.
Kills at 50%. |
