Hyrule Market is an active stage on Super Smash Stadium. It debuted early in Season 6, and is the 35th stage to debut overall.
It debuted exactly one day after Yoshi's Island 1, and its episode is somewhat infamous for a streaker running through the studio at the show's open. While most of the incident happened off-camera, the show's hosts did a lengthy rant about it during the first match of the day, which was at Bridge of Eldin (this stage was played second).
Stage overview[]
The stage takes place at the town just outside Hyrule Castle, at the fountain. The fountain represents a wall of sorts, as the water forms a barrier fighters can't pass through, although it accomplishes this feat by way of wind blowing fighters away from it. As many as four shops line the stage, with the two in the middle facing front and the two on either end facing the sides. The side shops are completely solid, while the middle shops are pass-through and their roofs are soft platforms.
The shopkeepers throw out the following items at regular intervals:
- All Zelda series items that are on in the Item Switch
- Lon Lon Milk: Restores 50%, in a literal sense (i.e., if you were at 200%, drinking the milk would bring you down to 100%)
- Hylian Shield: Makes all projectiles fail against you for 15 seconds.
- Kokiri Sword: Essentially gives you a sword attack for your forward Smash. Won't stack if you're using a character who already has a sword Smash, like the Links and Marth.
- Bomb: Slightly more powerful version of the Bob-Omb.
- Red Potion: Increases your damage output for 15 seconds.
- Green Potion: Increases your defense for 15 seconds, also making your shield deplete slower in the process.
- Blue Potion: Increases your knockback output for 15 seconds.
The only way to disable this behavior is to turn items off altogether.
Changes[]
The last major change to this stage came on October 10, 1986, when the current graphics debuted, which actually made the stage look like it was from Ocarina of Time. Prior to this, it was in 16-bit.
- The shopkeepers weren't present on the earliest playings. The first known playing of this stage with the shopkeepers came on October 26, 1977.
- The stage was originally at night. It switched to daytime on February 12, 1981.
In its own universe[]
Hyrule Market, or Hyrule Castle Town, is a recurring location in the Zelda series that's often seen just outside Hyrule Castle. It bears some similarities to Toad Town in the Mario series.
