The Home Run Bat is an item in the Super Smash Bros. series. Present in all five canon installments thus far, it's also arguably one of the most broken.
Whenever you do a forward Smash with this item, anyone hit suffers the strongest possible knockback of any attack in the entire series and likely dies unless they get lucky and find a wall to tech off of. Since Brawl, the attack also does 30%. Outside of that, though, it's an unimpressive battering item, although throwing it can hurt opponents quite a bit, too.
It's also an integral part of the Home Run Contest game seen in every Smash Bros. game starting with Mêlée. The idea there is to beat up a Sandbag and use the bat to send him flying.
The item was bugged in the first two Smash Bros. games for Captain Falcon and Sheik, which made Home Run Contest very difficult with them.
Debate exists over whether or not this is truly an original Smash Bros. item or if it's actually an Earthbound/Mother series item, as Ninten and Ness have used bats that were very similar to the Home Run Bat.
