A Herald is a type of character that was introduced with Zellen Harley Quimbleson's first appearance, although it has since been retconned that Silver Zin and Hitomi Yamamoto were also Heralds. Heralds are characters who can create portals to travel to other universes, usually with a secondary power attached. Unlike Catalysts, which broke the universe with their use of powers before they were nerfed down, Heralds can harmlessly travel throughout the universe.
Another odd quirk of Heralds is that there is only ever one of a single Herald; thus alternate universe equivalents don't really work in the same way as it would for other characters. However, contrary to what some Heralds believe, there do exists versions of them but lacking their multiversal travel abilities- these seem to be rather uncommon. Likewise, alternate timeline Heralds can exist, although most are unlikely to meet with their present counterparts.
Powers and Abilities
All Heralds share the ability to create portals, of which have their own unique appearance depending on the user. Using these portals, Heralds can travel through space in their own universe as well as across the multiverse, practically teleporting, as well as summoning items from portals from other dimensions. Heralds seem to be somewhat immune to the splitting effect created by the multiverse, although versions without the full Herald powers do exist across the universe. Heralds are NOT immune to the effects of time travel, so pulling a Herald from the future or past into the present will result in two of the same Herald.
Heralds can also use Stenographer Stones to create their own alternate universes, acting as a god in these domains. Stenographer Stones are incredibly rare and spread across the multiverse in small quantities.
? - Copied abilities but isn't really immune to splitting effect.
! - Possesses only some Herald powers (if any), but retains immunity to splitting effect.
