Gary Blue Oak, also known as Blue in the video games, is Ash Ketchum's rival in the Pokémon series. He is Professor Oak's grandson. He is 10 years old. His first Pokemon was a Squirtle.

In the games

Pokémon Red, Blue, and Green: VC Edition

Blue is your rival in the original first generation Pokémon games. Red, Blue, and Green were released for the Nintendo 3DS as a Virtual Console game. However, in the VC edition, the movesets for his team have changed unlike the original Game Boy games to improve the way a boss battle really looks.

First battle

When you select your starter Pokémon at Professor Oak's lab in Pallet Town, Blue will choose the starter that is supper effective over your starter. Then, as you're about to leave the lab, he will challenge you to a battle.

In the Yellow Version, Blue's team is different, because you start off with Pikachu. At Professor Oak's lab, you see a Poké Ball sitting on the table, but as you try to get it, Blue snatches it. Oak then offers the player a Pikachu he caught earlier in the wild. As you're about to leave the lab, Blue will battle you for the first time.

In the Generation II games, Blue is on Cinnabar Island that was destroyed due to an eruption. Speak with Blue and he will explain that he once was the champion until Red did him in. Rematch

You can have a rematch with Blue at the Fighting Dojo in Saffron City. To get his phone number, have his sister, Daisy, give your Pokémon a massage five times. Afterwards, Daisy will give you Blue's number. Call Blue on a Friday night and he will be at the Fighting Dojo, waiting to battle.
