Fish Bones (also called Fishbones or Wet Bones) are skeletal, undead Cheep-Cheeps that first appeared in Super Mario World, prominently featured in castles filled with water that Mario must swim through. Like Dry Bones and Bony Beetles, other skeletal enemies, they are immune to Fire Mario's Fireballs, but a spin from Cape Mario and Invincible Mario can defeat it. In this game, they are only seen swimming in one direction, trying to cut off Mario's space for swimming.
They reappear in New Super Mario Bros. Wii and subsequent games, and act much differently. Once again, they are found in castles and airships that are filled with water. They swim left and right, only posing a threat when Mario draws nearby. If a Fish Bone spots Mario, their eyes will change color from yellow to red, and will swim straight at him. They will shatter to pieces after hitting a wall, defeating them. They can be frozen by Ice Mario and Penguin Mario, but are still immune to fire.
