Arcade Smash Bros. (大乱闘スマッシュブラザーズ ARCADE, Great Fray Smash Brothers ARCADE), oftenshortened to "ASB", "Smash Bros. Arcade", simply "Arcade" or "Arcade Bros." is a crossover fighting game for the arcade system. This system is build by Nintendo, SEGA and Bandai Namco, called the Super Triforce, the original Triforce's main successor. The game itself is developed by Nintendo with Sora Ltd., HAL Laboratory and GreenStar Studios, Bandai Namco, Capcom, SEGA and Square Enix. It was first announced on April 1st, 2020 and revealed all of the veterans in the series (until Ultimate's Fighters Pass Vol. 1, including Ultra too) in an unexpected trailer announced by Nintendo and proceeded to develop until Sora's release. It is released on August 24, 2022, only in Japan, and it'll be released outside the country in 2023 in the United States and Europe. It is the seventh installment in the Super Smash Bros. series (eighth if the Smash 4 version of the Nintendo 3DS or Wii U is counted as seperate games, including the fanon Ultra) and being the first to be released in arcade systems instead of traditional home consoles in history of Super Smash Bros..

After the development of Fighters Pass Vol. 2 downloadable content is completed in Ultimate, Elma, the newest newcomer was announced as the next fighter in this game. After the reveal, days later, it was announced that there was a week full of eleven fighter reveals, with Crono and Shadow revealed in November, Jin, Chun-Li and Quote in December, Phoenix Wright and Amaterasu in January 2022, Nightmare from the Soul series, Octoling, Ms. Pac-Man and Lloyd in February, Alucard from Castlevania, Akira from Astral Chain in March and Zero, Proto Man.EXE, Zack Fair and Noctis in April, Crash and Ezio in May, Monster Hunter in June, 2B in July, Ryu Hayabusa in August, Master Chief in September and finally, Dante from the Devil May Cry series, released on October 18, 2022.

After the release, developers have confirmed that they will release a competitive remaster that can be played on official tournaments and e-sport locals. There will also be updates for Ultimate as well for this game for both worldwide and competitive editions, including additional spirits and events.

Plot[]

The intro starts with all the veteran characters fighting eachother in various gameplay scenes in a rapid cut transitions. This shows as an evolution how this game was developed and praised by many and shows how much passion this game gives for everyone, while celebrating other franchises too.

After a while, the screen starts glitching with some fissures, until it reveals all fighters grouped together to fight against an unknown identity which is to reveal in the end of the developement cycle. That creature charges up some kind of unknown energy and releases full power until all the fighter begin to evade the energy explosion. Unfortunately, all the fighters, including the Original 8, were affected by it, until they turned into electrical square shards with five types of colors, which are the ones that are shown'd below, showing the rarity of each character. The rest of the everything has been affected too until they turned to become Spirits again. A shimer of light appears in the distance, being Elma, the newest fighter, going full speed shooting the shards of the Original 12 to save them. The title screen will appear after that cinematic.

It's up to the player to decide if he wants to play this game to save all the characters with the help of the upcomming newcomers, or all of them will be trapped forever in the glitchy abyss. How much the player progresses to save them all, the title screen's background becomes more omnious and glitchy, representing how much the player progresses to fight the ultimate final boss.

Gameplay[]

TitleScreen1 ASB

The official title screen of the game. It's currently in v. 1.0.1. It may change with patches.

Arcade Smash Bros. plays similar like Ultimate with slightly balancing changes and updated signficant aesthetical changes. Not only affects its gameplay but also its accessibility to play this game, which is very limited compared to the previous titles and it's distributed to very well-known and few arcade locals around the world.

Its engine is the same as Ultimate extended with extra hardware and graphical hardwares to improve its gameplay. The game is played only with a GameCube Controller fixed near the arcade machine. As an extra, you can also play with traditional controls inspired from fighting arcade games (For players that play the characters that require advanced inputs like Ryu, Ken, Terry and Kazuya, it is more effective to play in this game since you can play with the traditional controls setup as an option). Also, thanks to the game enhanced graphics engine, the models, animations and textures are less clay-like and are more vibrant and alive.

Arcade machine[]

As the main successor of the original Triforce, the Super Triforce is once again build by Nintendo, SEGA and Bandai Namco. The main arcade system uses less physical space and is easy to build inside the machine. It has a similar shape as the original Triforce. Similar to the Playstation 5 hardware, this arcade machine has significant upscaled graphics and maximum GPU power to run a game with a huge memory size to prevent frame speed issues.

  • It uses a solid-state drive that's up to 100 Tb for high-speed loading times;
  • An AMD GPU capable of 4K resolution display at up to 120 frames per second;
  • Hardware-accelerated ray-tracing for vibrant, fresh and colorful lightning and reflections;
  • A entirely customized sound engine for hardware-accelerated 3D audio-effects.

With this specs, it makes the most powerful Smash Bros. (or even Nintendo) game up to date. The arcade machine is build in a way that follows stricly the measures of the global pandamic and protects players to keep distance of other players. It has hard plastic glass walls that are hard to break with confortable seats to sit on it, also following the healthy ways of the persons ergonomy. There are four seats facing each other, making a total of eight seats.

Credits and cards[]

CardBowser

A Smash Card profile made with Bowser in it. It can also be implemented as a amiibo Card. Each card has his own ID and unique code.

The player should start up their game with tokens received from the local arcades first. You start making your own player profile with your username or tag and creating a Mii, including with some accesories (similar to Mario Kart Arcade GP series; those photos will be portrayed on your matches above your Fighter). After that, you choose a Fighter's portrait art. You have at least two minutes to configure your profile and set up your created Mii. Until it's finished, you will be redirected to the main menu.

If you have your Smash Card active inside the arcade machine and are playing for the first time, you will get a special pack of free Fighters and Spirits. The Fighters are choosen by each of their series (Melee x1, Brawl x1, Smash 4 x1, Ultimate x1 and Ultra x1). The process of making a Smash Card is about min. one minute.

Of course, even if you have a maximum amount of credits, you have a permanent amount of rounds that you can play if you have a Smash Card active. The maximum amount of rounds for a player is two rounds. Once the two rounds are finished, the players must exit the arcade machines so that other people near the arcade line can play it too. If a player that already is finished and goes to play again, the Smash Card identifies this act and refuses to activate the player profile and start the game. The limited time to wait is thirty minutes until it activates. If a player does not follow the rules correctly of their local arcade buildings, they will be temporarly banned but their cards won't be affected of course.

If a player has troubleshooting problems with his Smash Card, a local worker can simply repair by transfering safely in the computer. There are also rare cases if a local arcade worker gives a new Smash Card with the previous imported save files from a defected card, if the Smash Card becomes unable to be repaired or being completely unusable or corrupted.

Those system rules are only active if the a player has a Smash Card, not for players with local arcade tokens; those players can play every round but each playthrough they get, it resets their data and their save data is non-existent, unless they also play with coins inside to continue their playthrough without losing their progress. The Smash Card has also an amiibo system implemented in the rear of the card with an unique QR-code. If you scan near your Nintendo Switch amiibo reader for Ultimate, it recognizes your card and pops up your chosen profile that you choose in the arcade machine. The codes are not compatible with Smash 4. Obviously, it's impossible to get the newcomers in Ultimate and Advanced, so a future patch will be implemented to get from each newcomer an exclusive Mii-costume to Ultimate if the amiibo is scanned.

MainMenu1 ASB

This is the main menu. You choose between Smash Mode or Solo Mode.

Menus and modes[]

Once you start the game, your time limit is fifty seconds time to choose a mode. You only can play between multiplayer and solo.

Smash Mode[]

Smash Mode is a multiplayer mode which allows you to play with other players around the arcade machine, up to eight players. In multiplayer, you will fight CPU's with the difficulty you want to set if there aren't any other active players available.

SmashMenu1 ASB

This is Smash Mode. It contains four modes: Versus, Smash Run, Squad Strike and Sandbag Soccer.

Versus Mode[]

Versus Mode allows players to brawl against other players in one match. Every player selects a mode and when the timer runs out, a roulette wheel will appear with those selected modes. If the wheel lands on the selected mode, all the players are obligatory to play the selected mode. There's also a small side roulette if the items are on/off, if it's a 3-stock match, a score match, a stamina match or a coin match and if the stage can morph if the stage is selected as original without Ω stages and Battlefield stages.

  • Vs. Free-For-All: Up to eight players, players must brawl in a random selected stage.
  • Vs. Team Smash: It divides players between two teams (2v2 or 4v4) or four teams if there are eight players active. If there's an uneven number of players, a level 7 CPU will assist the standalone fighter.
  • Vs. Duel Smash (1v1): Players play only on Ω-stages or Battlefield stages without items if an another player chosed this mode too. If one of the players chose this mode and the others aren't, it automaticaly will choose an another mode.
  • Vs. Spirits Smash: Up to eight players. It's the same as Vs. Free-For-All but the Fighters have Spirits equipped. Before the battle, you can choose which Spirit that you want available. Each player has their own Spirit Board.
  • Vs. Roulette Smash: Up to eight players, reminiscent to Special Smash. It's the same as Vs. Free-For-All but each player will get up to four special accessories that helps in the match.
    • Mega: Fighter gets big transformed from a Super Mushroom.
    • Mini: Fighter gets small minimilized from a Mini Mushroom.
    • Flower: Fighter has a Lip Flower effect, draining their damage consistently.
    • Bunny: Fighter has a Bunny Hood, allowing them to jump abnormally high.
    • Metal: Fighter transforms into metal, similar to Metal Cap from Super Mario 64.
    • Clear: Fighter becomes invisible, nearly visible if it performs a move, similar to the Clocking Device from Melee.
    • Tail: Fighter gains a raccoon tail and raccoon ears, allowing to float across the stage (and jump cancel) and attack opponents with his tail replacing the jab attack. It allows the fighter reflect projectiles if the ButtonIcon-GCN-Abutton is triggered.
    • Rocket Belt: Fighter gains a rocket belt to hover around the stage permanently.
    • Screw: Fighter has the ability to Screw Attack, inspired from the Metroid games.
    • Back Shield: Fighter gains a back shield that protects it and reflects projectiles.
    • Curry: Fighter has the ability to spit fire, inspired from Kirby's Dreamland.
    • Reflect: Fighter gains a Franklin Badge, allowing them to relect projectiles from all angles permanently.
    • Light: Fighter is lighter than normal, meaning that it can be knocked out easily by opponents. But its mobility is smoother and faster.
    • Heavy: Fighter is heavier than normal, meaning that it is difficult to be knocked out by opponents. But it's mobility is worse and has higher gravity.

"Fast" and "Slow" options are currently cut in this game.

Smash Run[]

Smash Run retruns off of its glory from Smash 3DS and didn't change its concept but its gameplay changed. Before starting the match, players must choose their Spirits to equip to their Fighter. Smash Run's titanic stage is also reconstructed being a little different then the previous version. There are also new obsacles, mini games and enemies too which are also updated aetheticaly. As for the final part of the game where players must compete against theirselves, it will always end up in a Free-For-All, based on their stats. How much their stats are, the size of the stage matters. The winner has to be who survived in the last battle instead of how many points it got, unlike Smash 4's Smash Tour.

Squad Strike[]

Squad Strike returns from Ultimate but instead of playing in a 1v1, you can now play up to eight players. It didn't change anything. After choosing this mode, you will be redirected to Versus Mode to choose the rules. The stock limit is up to three only, no more, no less.

Sandbag Soccer[]

Snadbag Soccer is a brand-new mode that allows up to 2-8 players to play against each other divided in two teams. The objective is that each team needs to bring the Sandbag to one of the opposing team goals. Players can also be launched and attacked by each other too, and most of the items can land on the arena. The one team that reached up to ten goals, wins the game. The time limit of the whole match is only 8 minutes and Final Smashes are disabled.

Solo Mode[]

Arcade Mode[]

Arcade Mode resembles a lot like a Classic Mode mix between Melee a lot and a bit of Brawl. Unlike Ultimate, each match that you're up against is random. There are a total of seven matches and three bonus games. The bonuses are randomly chosen; it chooses minigames like Break The Targets!, Board The Platforms!, Home-Run Contest!, Target Blast!, 3-Minute Smash! or Crystal Smash!.

Campaign Mode[]
Main article: Arcade Smash Bros./Campaign Mode

Campaign Mode is a spiritual sequel of Classic Mode in Melee, but has elements from Ultimate and Brawl which each character has their own small hub world with their unique themes and their unique final boss. You cannot choose a difficulty, nor it increases. All of the stages are in Normal/Hard difficulty.

Spiritboard Rally[]

Spiritboard Rally is a survival mode that allows players to choose ten Spirits to fight with in ten matches. Before the rally starts, one character must choose one Primary and three Support Spirits to equip himself. If you win one match, you will enter the Spirit World to fire the opponent you've beaten to obtain the posessed Spirit. No matter if you win or lose, you will go to the next match that you will choose. Once that the ten matches are finished, you will get the final results and more Spirits, Shards and Bonuses.

Gold Rush[]

Gold Rush is an extra small mode that rewards you bonuses, similar to Trophy Rush in Smash 4. You can only play this mode once every day and it doesn't take your credit points.

All-Star Survival[]

All-Star Survival is like traditional All-Star but the order is the order of the fighters' offcial number (ex: Mario > Donkey Kong > ...). It consists of a series of hordes until the last fighter. Fighters are easy to launch depending what difficulty you choose but difficulty rises if you progress fast enough. The stage depends what characters are in but the layout is always Battlefield or Omega versions. How longer the character survives, how big the reward will be.

Hordes[]

Characters with extra special alternate costumes are the only ones that can appear at random like Olimar with Alph and Louie, Robin either male or female, Bowser Jr. with either him or one of the Koopalings, Hero with their respective series, and Steve with Alex, Zombie and Enderman.

Boss Rush[]

Boss Rush allows the player to fight against all the bosses from Arcade Mode in one run. You start with with four stocks and a Heart Container appears if you have more than 100% up to three times, but the difficulty increases when you progress further or if you lose your stock, the difficulty decreases. In the end of the run or if you cannot progress any further if you wish, you can either choose Master Hand, Crazy Hand or both to fight against and you will get your rewards. There's the list below which bosses you need to fight against. Depending on the difficulty and the boss you chose, the conditions can change and the higher the intensity and the amount of bosses you defeated, the better the awards. If you lose all your stocks and be defeated, you will get no rewards in return, so be considerate about your actions. Spirit rewards are all the same in all difficulties, only they rise if you get the Master Hand or Crazy Hand bonus. Sometimes, during battles, low chances that Spirits, Food items and a chest drop on stage when you hit a boss. That chest can contain a number of Fighter Shards as bonus.

Depending which final boss you choose, both have different difficulties. Master Hand is an easy boss without any conditions or special rules, excluding items that drop on stage. It's a perfect final boss if you cannot progress any further and a safe choice to get your rewards. As for choosing Crazy Hand, you get 150 HP of stamina without items and your stock is up to one, even if you got more. It's a risky route but you'll get a rewarding bonus after the fight. If you fight both of them, your rewards are even greater but it's a riskier route depending the difficulty you get. It's a one stock battle, no stamina or items.

Below, there's a list of rewards with the bonus of Master Hand and Crazy Hand:

Controls[]

In this arcade machine, you only control the GameCube Controller. It has the same default settings like in every Super Smash Bros. game.

Buttons Function in the menu Function in-game
GameCube Circle Pad Hovering to a certain mode, a fighter or a stage. Moves your character to walk if you tilt slightly left or right, or dash if the pad is fully tilted. You can also control your character midair to move left or right.

If Tap-Jump is on, you can jump if tilt your pad fully upwards, or, you can short hop if you tilt it slightly upwards with a quick manoeuvre.

If you hold down while on the ground, your character can crouch. While crouching, if you diagonally tilt the circle pad to left/right, you can crawl, depending on the character your are using. In mid air, your character is able to fast fall, allowing them fall faster than normal.

Combining the ButtonIcon-GCN-A button together, you can perform a variety of attacks.

Unlike each traditional character, Ryu, Ken, Terry and Kazuya have their own special properties that obligates them to face the opponent at any direction on ground.

GCN Dpad Hovering to a certain mode. In the stage select screen, you click them to select the music. Makes your character taunt. It has three taunts: a side taunt (which is left or right), a down taunt and an up taunt. Each of them have different animations depending of each direction the GCN Dpad is pressed.
ButtonIcon-GCN-A Selecting a desired mode, a fighter or a stage. This button is called an action button. By tapping this button solely by tapping, you perform a number of jabs up to three to finish the jab. You can also repeatly tap the ButtonIcon-GCN-A button (or hold it) to perform a rapid jab that only works with certain characters like Fox or Kirby. If you hold the ButtonIcon-GCN-Abutton only on the first jab without any contact to an opponent, your character performs multiple jab 1 attacks. While dashing, if you tap the action button, your character performs a dash attack. With this button, you can also pick an item and control it.

If you tap the button while holding the GameCube Circle Pad circle pad in a desired direction, you perform a tilt attack. This also applies midair, with an exception of performing a back air if your character faces the opposite direction while tilting the stick on the opposite direction. If you tap the ButtonIcon-GCN-Abutton and the GameCube Circle Pad circle pad at the same time, your character performs a smash attack, which these are performable in three ways: a forward smash if you tilt the GameCube Circle Pad circle pad left/right, an up smash if you tilt it upwards, and down smash if you tilt it downards. Alternatively, you can also move the Smash Stick, known as the GameCube C Stick C-Stick, to perform a standalone smash attack.

The only exception to attack inputs are, once again, Ryu, Ken,Terry and Kazuya, allowing them to perform special inputs as in their respective traditional fighting games.

ButtonIcon-GCN-B Return to the previous menu. In the character select screen or in the stage select screen, you must hold the ButtonIcon-GCN-Bbutton to return to the previous menu. This is the Special button which allows your character to perform a special attack. Depending of the character your using, each special attack has its unique properties. An example is if you hold up on the GameCube Circle Pad circle pad while pressing/holding (depends on the character) the ButtonIcon-GCN-Bbutton, the character performs an extra midair jump. Its utility is for combo finishers or mostly to recover on stage safely depending the situation. An exception of utilizing the special button is Terry, performing his unique back special attack, Crack Shoot, if facing the opposite direction.
GameCube C Stick Has the same properties as the GameCube Circle Pad circle pad. The Smash Stick, mentioned previously, is a pad that allows characters to perform smash attacks. It's a much easier way to perform smash attack instead of pressing the GameCube Circle Pad circle pad and the ButtonIcon-GCN-Abutton at the same time. Again like the GameCube Circle Pad circle pad, it can be tilted left/right, upwards or downwards.
Gamecube Button X Gamecube Button Y Depends on the situation. In the character select screen, you click them to select a costume. In the stage select screen, if you hover on a stage icon and press those buttons, it changes the stage layout to an Ω-stage (Gamecube Button X) or Battlefield-stage (Gamecube Button Y). These buttons allows the character to jump if Tap Jump is off. If tapped, the character short hops.
Gamecube Button LGamecube Button R It functions like the Gamecube Button X & Gamecube Button Y buttons in the character select screen and stage select screen. With those shoulder button, you can protect your character by creating a shield around it, leaving it invunerable to attacks.

If you hold the shoulder button while taping the circle pad, your character will roll dodge in a desired direction (which is left or right). If you tilt the pad downwards, he will perform a normal dodge, great to escape grab attempts. If you hold it upwards, the character leaves the ground, dodging midair, performing an air dodge. You can also air dodge sideways if you tilt the control stick diagonally upwards depending on the direction you hold.

In midair, if you tilt the circle pad downards before landing on the ground, you perform a wavelanding depending on which direction you will hold diagonally, creating a small wavedash.

If you hold shield and then press the action button, you perform a grab, known as an out-of-shield grab.

ButtonIcon-GCN-Z In the character select screen, it changes the costume manually. This button allows the character to grab. If you push the ButtonIcon-GCN-Z button while tilting the GameCube Circle Pad circle pad or the GameCube C Stick C-Stick on the desired direction, you perform an out-of-shield grab. When a character caught his opponent, if you press the ButtonIcon-GCN-Z button (ButtonIcon-GCN-A alternatively), you can pummel the opponent. If you tilt the circle pad after you grab an opponent, you throw it depending on which direction you tilt it. It has four different kinds of throws: forward throw, back throw, up throw and down throw.
GameCube Start It functions as the ButtonIcon-GCN-A button. In the character select screen, when the 'Ready To Fight' bar appears, you click the Start button instead of hovering and selecting it. It will pause the match. You have 15 seconds of break time since this is an arcade game. After 15 sectonds, the match will resume. Each player has only one pause opportunity for the whole match. You can press back the pause button ton resume the match again.

One minute of inactivity and the player will be disqualified, leaving the match.

Gameplay[]

  • The buffer input is slightly better adjusted resembling to Brawl's buffer mechanic, since it was the best out of the series. The move that you press is now ignored if you buffered a move after two seconds.
  • Shield mechanics are adjusted to both terms between perfect shielding and parrying. You can perfect shield if you shield at the same time of the impact of the attack. You can also parrying the attack if you leave the shield on the same impact. You cannot perfect shield and parrying inbetween.
  • You can no longer tech Final Smashes becoming untechable, except for ones that are executed with the Smash Meter.
  • Some mechanics like the combo power raiser from Ultra will be removed for balancing purposes. However, the combo counter will still return for scoring and Final Smash Meter purposes.
  • Since there's a whole lot of changes in footstool mechanics, here's now a new footstool jump technique called Footstool Leap (or in short Leap Jump). It is very similar to Greninja's or Simon's down air. This is where the player who performs a footstool needs to press ButtonIcon-GCN-A on the right time, while also knocking opponents diagonally upwards to further follow up combos. It allows them to further jump higher as a great to for recoveries. The knockback on the inital usage is always weight-dependent.
    • During the Leap Jump, the game leaves a small window of an opportunity to perform this move easily.
    • As in Ultimate, footstools can still be teched and is harder to perform.
    • During the Leap Jump, characters have unique animations.
  • Special Zoom's have now a special background to each character, reminiscent to their games, improving it aestheticaly.
    • Donkey Kong has Jungle Japes with bright sunset scenery as a background when using fully charged Giant Punch.
    • Captain Falcon has a bright burning phoenix as a background refering to his iconic Falcon Punch.
    • Jigglypuff, if she uses Rest, has a green background with sleeping bubbles and the letter Z scattered on screen looking a lot like the textures of the modern Pokémon games.
    • Chrom, using fully charged Flare Blade, has a blue background with horizontal bright flashes, reminiscent to Fire Emblem: Awakening's cover artwork.
    • Byleth, when using clean hit Amyr, has the Garegg Mach Monastery as a background with a red background hue and horizontal flashes.
    • TBA

Characters[]

Excluding all the veterans and extra characters from Ultra, and newcomers that are yet to be announced. Some characters from the previous series return as Echo Fighters whith different playstyles different from the original, like Link from Twilight Princess that plays very similar to Smash 4.

All characters that debuted in Smash 64, including the unlockables, are the starter characters. All that proceeds of Melee until Ultimate (and Ultra) are unlockable. Newcomers can be unlocked like in its traditional way with a duel match with their homeland stages. Putting the newcomers aside, the unlocking method of this game is very different compared to the previous titles. Since it's an arcade game, to unlock the veterans, you need to complete the modes above to gain awards. Those awards include Fighter Shards which the player must collect during their gameplay to unlock them as playable fighters as the plot explained above. However, it is not simple as that; each Fighter Shard has his own rarity.

Here are the rarity symbols and their meaning:

VeryRareIcon ASB Epic Shard Those shards are difficult to get. It requires to beat certain modes without losing a game after losing all the Fighters' lives if you want to win big with these shards. If you continue, you gain lesser and lesser until you win. The amount to unlock Epic Fighters are 150 shards worth. If you already have those fighters, you can also unlock Epic EX Costumes too. Monthly Events are a good example of a moe to gain these shards very easily if you play well.
SuperRareToken ASB Legendary Shard Those shards are extremely difficult to gain since these are the rarest ones out of the bunch. It requires to beat certain modes without continuing on a Game Over on higher intensity. Only if you choose Intense Mode, you only gain 10 shard if you win either if you continue after losing a life, but also only five in Very Hard. Chun-Li Kicks into the Scene!
— Chun-Li's Tagline Entrance

Chun-Li, Street Fighter's most iconic female fighter, joins Arcade to test her challengers in battle! With the use of command inputs, most of her moves comes from the various Street Fighter series, using most of her leg-ranged and multihitting moves. She can use it for her advantage as adding pressure and spacing to their opponents. Her Kikoken, a smaller version of Ryu's Hadoken, is a reliable move to keep opponents at bay. Her Spinning Bird Kick and Tenshou Kyaku are moves that Chun-Li can rely on as finisher confirms. Obviously, her Focus Attack stuns her opponent at the higher level. Her Final Smash consist of two finishing moves: Kikosho, her Final Smash for opponents distanced from her, and her powerful Hosenka super combo for close-ranged opponents.

Chun-Li is confirmed to be fighter #130 being the third fighter out of the Street Fighter series, and the second fighter being announced for December.

Quote Loads His Artillery!
— Quote's Tagline Entrance

Quote, the super soldier robot, despite resembling like a human, is ready to show his artillery expertise in Smash! While he uses his specials to send projectiles, they have a unique mechanic that can get stronger the more damage Quote does to players. That mechanic is a level-up system that his specials get stronger and can only be reset if Quote himself loses a stock. Besides of his trusty Polar Star, his main weapon that can flinch his opponent in the distance, you can use a variety of special weapons: Fireball for a safe distance, the Missile Launcher that you only can shoot once per active missile and shoot straightly in one direction and the Bubbline, while it does not have the better range unlike his other specials, it can trap opponents inside a bubble if they are at high percents. Use your Booster to recover safely but be sure to use it properly without waisting its fuel. His Final Smash, Quote rapid fires the strongest weapon in Cave Story, Nemesis, in a consectutive manner in his Level 3 state, dealing major damage to the opponents.

Quote is confirmed to be fighter #131 being the third fighter out of a indie company, and the third fighter being announced for December.

Phoenix Wright Takes The Case!
— Phoenix Wright's Tagline Entrance

While Smash is a fighting game, Phoenix Wright, or Nick in short, miraculously enters the competition unlike any other fighter in the roster. He doesn't fight nor intends to fight, otherwise it will breaks his code as a an remarkable ace attorney who doesn't use violence against his close ones. However his speeches, proofs and evidences hurt more than physical punches! In his mainline games, Ace Attorney uses visual novel elements to progress in the story such as speech bubbles and items. His Evidence Counter allows Nick to file a max of five evidences of opponents that left an evidence on stage. Each evidence is damaging and equals the amount of damage the opponent has left a mark at the attorney himself, rangeing from 15% to 30%! Maya also follows Nick in Smash to cheer him on! Her Spirit Shield protects him from projectiles and upcoming attacks. Recover the attorney himself on stage with the help of Maya's Cheering Leap! Nick's Magatama, given by Maya herself, is a counter object that seals opponents thanks to Psyche-Lock ability. The counter is lethal depending on how many evidence he got. His Final Smash gets Nick to interrogate trapped opponents caught in his cinematic finisher, mentioning a number of evidences found in his papers and sends them away. An another case for an another unsual day for the attorney himself...

Phoenix Wright is confirmed to be fighter #132 being an another fighter representing Capcom being announced for January 2022. You can choose between his original costume or his alternate being from Ace Attorney: Dual Destinies.

Amaterasu Shines Through The Heavens!
— Amaterasu's Tagline Entrance
Amaterasu, the main protagonist of the game Ōkami, and her "trusty" partner Issun, join together in Smash. As an unique fighter, Amaterasu shows elegance and grace through her moveset. She uses her Ink Pots to produce devine powers with her Celestial Brush. With this, she can attack opponents with her Celestial Brush Abilities, wasting Ink. Her special moves are pretty powerful tools to mix-up her opponents. Inferno creates a fire projectile that sends opponents away. When fully charged, Fireburst comes out, creating a big burst of fire knocking opponents away with massive damage. Galestorm has a windbox but doesn't damage opponents but it's a really good horizontal recovery option. Whirlwind ascends Amaterasu in the air but traps opponents into a multi-hit tornado. Lastly, her Veil of Mist technique, allows her to stop time around her trapped opponents. It only activates when opponents get hit by the ink strokes. Her Final Smash, traps opponents hitting by a ink stroke, sending them into her cinematic finisher. She runs at the top of the valley, summoning her Cherry Bomb ability to the opponents and makes the sun rise at the top creating a floral explosion. As for a nice detail, try running as Amaterasu on every stage. She leaves cherry blossom petal trails behind.

Poké Balls[]

There are a total of 111 confirmed Pokémon that come out in Poké Balls, which are the 79 returning ones, and 32 new ones mostly appearing from Generation VIII, being in the Galar region from Pokémon Sword & Shield and in the Hisui region from Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Changes from returning Pokéballs[]

There also some changes to some moves on certain Pokémon. Mythical Pokémon such as Arceus or Darkrai have a low chance of appearing in Poké Balls, while the Legendaries appear in Master Balls. Also, the new written moves are underlined while the Mythical Pokémon are written with a (*) symbol:

  • Chikorita uses Magical Leaf instead of Razor Leaf from Melee and Brawl, which is the move Snivy uses currently. The leaves move like from Mega Man's Leaf Shield, but it has the ability to pseudo-multihit.
  • Cyndaquil uses Flame Wheel instead of Flamethrower from Melee. It moves around the stage while spinning like a burning wheel following opponents. It can also jump on platforms.
  • While Togepi can use Metronome, Clefairy is also capable of using this move with different abilities such as: Heal Pulse, Cursed Body, Gust, Supersonic and Explosion. Togepi uses Sleep Powder, Leech Seed, Magnitude, Powder Snow and Night Shade.
    • Heal Pulse heals all the fighters around Clefairy by 30%.
    • Cursed Body forbid the opponents use special moves (or B-moves) for a while, except for the one that summoned it.
    • Gust is a move that pushes all the fighters to the side with a powerful wind. The direction can vary between left and right.
    • Supersonic makes the opponents in dizzy status when hit by it.
    • Explosion works like Electrode but it is executed immediately without warning, being one of the most powerful moves in the game, having serious high knockback.
  • Venusaur uses Seed Bomb instead of Earthquake from Melee, since it's Metagross' current move from Brawl. It launches three Seed Bombs upwards in the air and goes down until landing on stage exploding afterwards. The projectile itself deals only physical damage and the explosion makes the opponent dizzy and vulnerable on impact.
    • Both Chespin and Venusaur use the same move in a different manner.
  • Piplup uses Whrilpool instead of Surf from Brawl, since it's Oshawott's current move from Smash 4. Makes a whrilpool above it, trapping opponents spinning around. While being inside of Whirlpool, all the fighters can still perform moves while spinning around. The velocity depends on the character's weight (light goes faster and heavy goes slower).
  • Weavile's stun period longer but after waking up, it leaves the opponents invincible for a while, easier to escape the attacks.
  • Raikou uses Zap Cannon, instead of using Spark from Melee. Like Suicune, Raikou launches a electric thunderbeam forward, stunning opponents for a while.

While there are some changes in moves, some of them have aesthetical changes:

  • Scizor has a literal metal texture on his claws performing Metal Claw.
  • The Alolan Exeggutor while using Synthesis, particles appear on its leaves.
  • Mimikyu, before performing its signature Z-Move: Let's Snuggle Together!, a symbol of a Z-Crystal appears.
  • The Alolan Raichu, before performing its signature Z-Move: Stocked Sparksurfer, a symbol of a Z-Crystal appears.

Some Pokémon like Vulpix and Alolan Vulpix with regional forms have a few differences:

  • While Electrode and Hisuian Electrode have the same move, both have different properties. The Hisuian form explodes leaving a blast of puffy grass behind after self-destructing. The blast stun the opponents for quite a while, leaving the significantly vulnearable to punishes. The stunning period is also extremely hard to SDI to a certain direction. When the stun period is finished, the opponents are launched upwards but kills later than the original Electrode's blast.
  • Scizor and Kleavor move the same manner, but their hitboxes are different. Scizor's attacks connect between each other while Kleavor's hits only once, deals more damage and has more knockback.
  • Weavile and Sneasler is the same as Scizor and Kleavor. Sneasler flinches the opponents with a rapid session, giving them inflicting damage with its Poison Jabs.

Mew, Celebi and Jirachi use Fly all the same. While they don't do particularly nothing, they are rare Pokémon that have almost never the chance of appearing unlike other Mythical Pokémon. The only difference is that Moltres can also use Fly, but it sends the opponents significantly upwards when hit by the Pokémon.

Latios & Latias are the only ones that appear in a normal Pokéball, instead of a Master Ball for an unknown reason.

Goldeen still has a very low chance of appearing on a Master Ball, raising the chances of getting a better Legendary Pokémon.

Bosses[]

Bosses return in Arcade being the final bosses in Classic Mode. They also appear in Campain Mode for each character depending on their themes. The images are placeholders for new icons. Sephiroth is the only character to have the same bosses as in his Classic Mode theme in Ultimate. Master Core is the only boss that you cannot reach in Campaign Mode, but only in Arcade Mode on higher difficulty. A secret boss comes up very soon.

New (???)[]

DimentioIcon ASB You will first start the battle against Dimentio. He will warp around with his Flip techniques and send dark magic beams across the stage. He also eventually makes Flip portals that traps opponents and deal massive damage, and creates boxes that traps opponents exploding them inside.

The second phase starts by Dimentio transforming into Super Dimentio. With this form, his weak point is only it's head. He doesn't take much damage if you don't collect the Pure Hearts scattered on stage. If you collected all, Dimentio suddenly becomes dizzy unable to do anything until he regains his conscious back. With the Pure Hearts, you can do massive damage against the enemy.

MotherBrainIcon2 ASB The battle starts when Mother Brain appears inside in the giant glass capsule. The first objective is to break the glass to free Mother Brain. The boss can send various projectiles that keep you away from the target so be careful. The target itself is more vulnerable if the glass is broken so don't waste your time! The boss battle is time limited under four minutes until the facility explodes and it's game over.

Stages[]

It is also confirmed that all the stages from the previous series will return to Arcade Smash Bros.. The stage selection screen, is not available anymore due to having a random stage selection after all the players are ready to battle. However, it differs from layout depending on the mode that it's playing. There are already 16 new stages announced for this game while each one is a homestage for each represented fighter.

Stage Changes[]

  • All three variant forms of Battefield are inspired by one of the concept arts of Ultimate. Big Battlefield is now only choosable in 8-Player Smash and has the same layout and visuals as the normal one.
  • Final Destination remains the same from Ultimate but is a lot more vibrant (including the background scenery) and has neon light colors around the stage.
  • Fixed a bug or an exploit with travelling stages when players get instantly Star KO'ed when a travelling platform has stopped on a section during Sudden Deaths. Now they never stop travelling until the remaining opponent gets KO'ed[1].
Super Smash Bros. (64)[]
  • Planet Zebes and Sector Z have been added to this game, receiving the same aesthetical changes from Ultimate.
  • Meta Crystal is now brand-newly added to this game for the first time as a stage instead of a single-player stage. It also receives the same aesthetical changes from Ultimate. It is now part of the Super Mario franchise, being reminiscent to Super Mario 64's Hazy Maze Cave level.
Super Smash Bros. Melee[]
  • Mushroom Kingdom, Mute City and Poké Floats are now added to the game with overall aesthetic changes.
  • Mushroom Kingdom, now named as Lost Mushroom Kingdom, recieves the same treatment of Mushroom Kingdom 64, adding correct textures of the original Super Mario Bros, especially from Lost Levels.
  • Mushroom Kingdom II has fixed textures and more consistent colors[2].
  • Mute City's layout is inspired from a mix between F-Zero X, F-Zero GX and the vibrant look of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
  • Poké Floats, now named has Poké Floats GO, has now significant balancing changes and has a more vibrant look, reminiscent to the mobile game, Pokémon GO, where giant Pokémon balloons appear everywhere designed like in Pokémon GO. New Pokémon from newer generations appear too such as Hoppip, Trumbeak, Darmanitan and more.
Super Smash Bros. Brawl[]
  • Mushroomy Kingdom has now its 1-2 section restored from Brawl, having the same treatment from Ultimate and being less chaotic for balancing and gameplay purposes.
Super Smash Bros. for Wii U/3DS[]
  • Jungle Hijinxs returns with updated aesthetic changes. The mechanics from Smash 4 are changed, now using mechanics from Stage Morph between the grasslands and the temple.
  • Pyrosphere returns with updated aesthetic changes and the stage size is slightly smaller. Ridley returns as a boss hazard with the same appearence of Metroid: Other M. However, when playable Ridley is on this stage, the boss hazard is absent for the whole match and only the stage minions appear.
  • Orbital Gate Assault returns with updated aesthetic changes and significant balancing changes. Due to also having a rough developement in Smash 4, the stage's file size has been reduced to optimize the gameplay.
  • Pac-Maze returns with few changes. The stage is now playable with the same mechanics of Balloon Fight and Mario Bros. Players can be warped to the other side of the blastzones. However, when the player is being launched at a considerable amount of knockback, the blastzones are active and receives a KO.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate[]
  • Mementos now has two new stage textures based on older Persona series as the first Persona game, being purple themed, and Persona 2, being a redish orange and yellow theme, when they play their songs from their representative series.
Ultra Smash Bros. IV[]
  • Chosen stages from Ultra return with updated aesthetic changes and overall significant balancing changes.
  • Underworld / Skyworld have now updated looks and fresh background instead of being a solid black background, inspired and derived from 3D Classics: Kid Icarus for the Nintendo 3DS.
  • Prison Island's cameo characters have now aethetical changes to reminisize their appearence from Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition. There are other cameos from Xenoblade Chronicles: Future Connected added too.
  • Waluigi Pinball shares inspired aesthetics as in the textures of Mario Kart Tour with an updated and vibrant look.
  • Bubble Bobble has now added new level sections to be playable.
  • TETRIS has now a overall futuristic layout instead of being retro.

New Los Angeles This is Elma's main homestage. A dynamic travelling stage that shows many cameo characters that appear as an important role in Xenoblade Chronicles X plot and shows how important this location is in the game. This stage also goes around the BLADE Tower showing many platforms to pass through. In the background, there are also many Skells flying around the city and can hit the opponents as hazards.

There's currently one track of this game, which is an arrangement version of "Uncontrolable" remixed by gabocarina96.

Bowser's Castle Bowser's Castle finally makes an appearance in Smash Bros. Unlike the other Super Mario stages, Bowser's Castle has a more darker theme instead of having colorful visuals. During the matches, the lava rises up in the middle of the stage with platforms and Podoboos jumping on stage. Thwomps appear on the side of the stages, waiting for players to go near them and meteor smash them.

This is Bowser's main homestage.

Origamicastle The dynamic travelling stage inspired from Paper Mario: The Origami King. Each streamer has it's own stage theme and layout. You always begin the match on the red streamer:
  • The red streamer's location leads to Toad Town.
  • The blue streamer leads to an orange autumn theme where you see the Shogun Studios in the background and the river rapids of Eddy River on the foreground, display logs as platforms.
  • The yellow streamer leads to a nightly desert in the Temple of Shrooms.

TBA Oil drums act like normal barrels. However when thrown and rolled, they leave a slick trail of oil. This can either trip opponents, or, if contact with fire is made, leave a firey trail which damages opponents before being extinguished several seconds later. If the barrel is attacked with fire without being rolled, it will light, much like in the picture. After several seconds on fire, it will explode, damaging all those nearby, including the user who lit it.

Trivia[]

  • Mii Wizard and Mii Sports Trainer, from Ultra, are the only Mii Fighter classes that are excluded in this game.
    • This makes the third Super Smash Bros. installement that excludes veterans from previous games, excluding Ultimate.
  • Icicle Mountain, Rumble Falls, 75 m, 3DS Rainbow Road, Paper Mario and Super Mario Maker are stages that are exluded in this game due to balancing issues and already removing unnecessary duplicates.
    • Aside from the canon universe, in the fanon Ultra universe, the removed stages are Comet Observatory, Woolly World 2, Oubliette, Royal Road, Wish Park, Realgam Colosseum, Death Desert, Sand Ocean, Weyard, Desert of Dirijidoos, Wii Play and Endless Ocean
  • This makes the second Smash game that it follows the same "Everyone is here!" principle, added with extra Ultra characters and future newcomers, being the biggest fighter roster up to date.
    • The statement above also counts to the stages, except for those that are cut from the game.
