Sword is a Copy Ability that Kirby can use in the Kirby series, which debuted in Kirby's Adventure. As the name suggests, this ability allows Kirby to utilize a sword, allowing him to perform various slashing attacks and hit enemies from mid-range. Since its debut, it has appeared in nearly every Kirby game and has been one of the most recurring abilities.
Description[]
Sword Kirby wears a green hat with a gold brim, topped with a gold ball. He also wields a sword, which has a blue hilt and a yellow gem at the center. Overall, he bears a striking resemblance to, and may even be based on, Link from the The Legend of Zelda series, with Sword Kirby having a green hat just like him, as well as his sword resembling the Master Sword.
All of Sword Kirby's attacks use the sword in various ways, from basic slash attacks, spinning moves, stabs and thrusts, and even throwing energy projectiles from the sword. This makes it a very powerful ability for fighting enemies, and the range it provides allows Kirby to stay at a relatively safe distance while attacking. Its quick speed also lets him pile on damage quickly. Outside of combat, the sword can also be used to cut ropes and tall grass, which can potentially open up secrets. Finally, as Kirby carries a weapon, Sword is one of the few Copy Abilities that he can use while underwater.
In Kirby's Return to Dream Land, there's a Super Ability based on Sword Kirby, known as Ultra Sword. The Robobot Armor also has a Sword Mode based on this ability in Kirby: Planet Robobot. In Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Sword can be upgraded at Waddle Dee's Weapons Shop with Blueprints. The first upgrade is Gigant Sword, which gives him armor resembling that of Gigant Edge (Wild Edge in this game) as well as his sword, which is much larger and covers a lot more range. It can be further upgraded to Meta Knight Sword, which grants Kirby Meta Knight's mask and a replica of his sword, the Galaxia. He is able to create more shockwaves with his sword slashes, which are stronger and travel farther. During the post game, the ability can be upgraded one final time to Morpho Knight Sword, giving Kirby Morpho Knight's armor and sword. This turns it into one of the strongest abilities in the franchise, increasing power, speed, and range exponentially.

Trivia[]
- Aside from design, some of Sword Kirby's moves are also nods to Link. Sword Beam references Link's ability to shoot beams from the Master Sword while he's at full health, Spin Slash is directly based on Link's Spin Attack, and Sky Energy Sword is based on Link's Skyward Strike attack in The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword.
