Spinies are four-legged enemies that appear in the Mario series. They have big, red shells with long and sharp spikes on them. They are said to be pets of the Lakitus, which toss them are Mario to attack him. When Spinies fall from the ceiling, they hide in their shell and bounce off walls. Mario can carry their Shells and he can jump on them, only if the are upside down. Their spikes will harm Mario if he attempts to jump on them, but other methods of attacking can dispatch them.

In K-Koopa, Spinys first appear in PipeVille Being shot out of Ptooeys. However, They are nearly the same strength as a Goomba and can easily be defeated. They usually only Go into their shells for defense which damages opponents.

In the Amiibo update of Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga + Bowser’s Minions if you tap the Amiibo/Spiny then you will unlock Captain Spiny and five Spiny allies as playable characters in Bowser Minions Mode.

Super Mario Spikers[]
Spinies appear in Super Mario Spikers as Power-type sidekicks. Their shells have a more metallic design, and their spikes are replaced with retractable ones that can extend quite far. Spinies will use these spikes to attack opponents or save balls. Their theme is a Hard Rock remix of the underground theme in Super Mario Bros.
Koopa Kart series[]
Spiny is a playable character in the Koopa Kart series in every game except for Koopa Kart DS and Koopa Kart 7. He is a middleweight driver in the first four games, while he is a lightweight starting from Koopa Kart Wii. In Koopa Kart: Double Trouble!!, his Special Item is the Spiny Shell.
