SERIES KillGames

Redge is a character created by CrakaboLazy4090 (tbc). He makes his debut in KillGames, appearing in the game as one of the game's main protagonists. He is considered the mascot of the series, alongside the mascot of his parent company, Lazy Studios.

Appearence[]

Redge is a half-demon (born from a human and demon parent), and is best known for his completely black skin. He has spiky hair that is the same color as his skin, and yellow pupiless eyes. He wears a dark red visor, a red jacket with a white shirt underneath, a pair of jeans, red fingerless gloves, and brown shoes. He wears two belts, one around his waist and the other slung around his torso, which he uses to hold the Cauterizer when not in use. Despite his appearence, he does have a mouth, normally hiding it and only revealing it when in True Demon. He can talk and eat while his mouth is hiding.

When in True Demon, Redge's appearence becomes more wild and aggressive. His hair begins moving similar to fire, his clothes become ripped, his claws elongate, two wings appear on his back, and he gains an axe-like tail.

In KillGames 2, his appearence stays mostly the same, though his hair is spikier, and he has visible pupils. His jacket is now long-sleeves with iron padding on the shoulders and wrists. His shirt is now a lighter red, and his pants are khaki. After losing his right arm in the last game, he now possesses a mechanical arm, which is red and grey. It also holds the Catuerizer, which he now uses like a wrist blade, though will occasionally wield it like a sword for certain attacks.

In KillGames: Rechained, being a reboot, the events of the first and second game are ignored and his arm is back. Unlike many of the characters in the game who all got overhauls in their design, Redge's design was kept relatively similar to his original design, with the only changes being his shoes, which are red and appear more like sneakers, and the removal of the torso belt. The Cauterizer on the other hand had recieved a massive design overhaul, possessing a more elaborate appearance with actual chainsaw handles, exhaust pipes and a furnace.

Personality[]

Redge, throughout KillGames, is shown to be incredibly lazy, abrasive, sarcastic and rude. Before the events of KillGames, he didn't really do anything, living Lane's apartment and doing nothing but sitting in front of a TV. He only joins the KillGames because Lane forced him to and because he could get a chance to kill his mother, Soul.

Redge shows little to no care for the well-being of others, with the exceptions of Lane and Yuki later on in the story. He won't hesitate to kill anyone in his way, often needing Lane to stop him from brutally killing someone. While he fights, he enjoys making snarky and offensive remarks on his enemies.

Story[]

Backstory[]

Redge was born at an unknown time, being the son of Soul and an unknown father. Redge had grown a good relationship with his father, but had always hated Soul. Soul saw Redge as a failure, much like all the other children she has had. Soul wished to make Redge's live as misrable as possible, eventually killing Redge's dad and making his life, quite fittingly, a living hell. Though, unlike his siblings who ended up dying, Redge, being a half-demon, ended up surviving. Eventually, Redge escaped into the Human Realm with the help of an occultist named Lane. Not having to deal with Soul anymore, he stayed mostly in Lane's apartment, mostly sitting in front of a TV and playing videogames.

Rechained keeps this backstory the same for the most part. The son of Lylyth (a renamed Soul) and an unknown father, Redge would live with his father in hiding for some time until Lylyth discovered them and killed him. Redge would later be forced to live in Hell for much of his life, often on the run from Lylyth. There, he met Rapturn, the daughter of Lucifer and the heir of the throne of Hell, the two striking up a friendship. Redge would then escape into the Human Realm, being accidentally summoned by Lain. Fascinated by the prospect of a half-demon, she allows Redge to stay in her apartment as he sought to enact his plan to kill Lylyth.

KillGames[]

In KillGames, he appears as the protagonist of his side of the story, alongside Lane and Yuki. Redge joined because Lane forced him too, and winning the tournament would allow him to finally get rid of Soul. During the prologue, he meets Storm, calming her down when she threatens a random bartender.

During his story, he breezed through most of his fights without any care in the world, but upon meeting Yuki, he was forced by Lane to help her get Yuki out. Initially, Redge didn't really care about Yuki, but after learning about her backstory and seeing her do things like save Misery and Colt's life and defeat Soul, he made it his mission to protect her.

Upon reaching the final match, he faces off against Storm, who he met in the prologue. If the player chooses him, he defeats Adam and wins. When Adam is killed by Soul, he faces off against his (now mutated) mother and kills him. While celebrating, he suddenly loses his arm when Maligna cut it off, but she dies as well when she dragged into Hell. During the ending, Redge is seen sitting on some rubble, and he and Storm seem to become friends. The both of them walk out of the arena, looking at the sun, appreciating that the KillGames are finally over.

After game's ending, it is implied that Redge and Lane adopt Yuki.

KillGames Rechained[]

In Redge's story, we are introduced to Redge through him and Lain watching a news story on the upcoming 25th KillGames. Redge, at first, seems unimpressed by the tournament, seeing as he's done plenty of murder beforehand while living in Hell. However, after watching an interview with Blitzkrieg, he notices his secretary, Lili. Redge eventually deduces that she is Lylyth in disguise, and this prompts him to run off and join the tournament. Lain seeks to join at well, and although Redge isn't sure at first (not wanting to get anyone involved), he eventually decides to work together with her.

After killing some contestants, the two of them eventually come across a section of the city completely coated in ice. Suddenly, Redge is ambushed by a hooded figure, knocking him into an abandoned factory. The two fight, with Redge coming out victorious. He goes over to the figure, eventually revealed to be a female half-demon. She gets up, revealing her name as Yuki. Redge would learn that she was forced to join the tournament against her will, and thus decides to let her live. Suddenly however, another mysterious figure jumps out from a rooftop, attacks and incapacitates Yuki, before taking her away. Redge angrily runs after her, much to Lain's confusion.

After fighting some more enemies, we see the figure tying Yuki to a large cross-like structure, seeking to kill her. Redge manages to catch up to them, and the two fight. Redge knocks off the figure's hood, eventually revealing the true culprit: Rapturn, Redge's old friend. Having learned of the atrocities that demons have committed, she has made it her mission to kill every last one, intending on killing Yuki for that cause. They continue to fight, Redge managing to get the upper hand and knocking her into a computer system. The screen suddenly turns on, revealing the truth about Yuki: that she was originally a human and transformed into a demon by Blitzkrieg and his organization, Umbringen Labs. Redge helps Yuki out as she begins breaking down, comforting her, the two find solace in their terrible childhoods. Eventually, Redge decides to go off and fight Blitzkrieg by himself, wanting both Yuki and Rapturn to make it out alive, and seeking to kill Blitzkrieg and make him pay for what he's done.

Making his way to the KillGames Arena, he faces off with Blitzkrieg, eventually besting him. Suddenly however, as Redge is about to land the final blow, Lylyth appears behind Blitzkrieg, killing him and draining him of his blood, using to form a massive Bloodnado to start causing destruction to the surrounding area. Redge confronts his mother, learning her plan to take over the Human Realm as she taunts him, insulting him for challenging her and telling him that she should have killed him like all the other children she has had. With this, Redge goes on the attack, fighting his mother. Eventually, he manages to best him, but Lylyth absorbs the blood from the Bloodnado and transforms into her most powerful form: Eve. However, despite this power, Redge manages to defeat her.

Lylyth falls to the ground, injured and covered in blood. Angered at being bested, she attempts a last-ditch effort kill, but Redge effortlessly chops off her head, finally killing her. Having finally killed his mother, he looks to sky, finally avenging his father. Lain, Yuki and Rapturn catch up to Redge, celebrating his victory as the Wish appears. Redge goes over to it, commenting on how the only reason he joined the tournament was in order to kill Lylyth, and now that he has the ability to Wish for anything, he doesn't really know what to do. Eventually however, he settles on getting himself a coupon that allows him to get as much Mother Clucker's Chicken Tender Buckets as he wants. Rapturn then signals toward Yuki, who is looking towards the exit of the arena. Redge goes over to her, Yuki stating that because she was created solely for the KillGames, she doesn't know if anyone on the outside world will accept her. Redge then reassures her that no matter what, he'll always be there for her, cementing their friendship. Redge then asks if Lain would allow Yuki to stay with them, to which Lain is happy to, even inviting Yuki to get some ice cream later. The two of them then leave, as Redge turns to Rapturn, smiling and reassuring their friendship, to which Rapturn smiles. Rapturn gets a call from her leader, Pope Nero, reporting her success in defeating Lylyth. When Pope Nero asks if she managed to kill any demon she meets, she decides to let Redge and Yuki go off, telling him that she did. The scene then ends with Redge, Lain and Yuki look off at a rising sun.

In the after-credits shot, Redge is seen ordering from a Mother Cluckers restaurant, using his prize to purchase four Chicken Tender Buckets, only to order an additional ten, much to the annoyances of the customers behind him.

Abilities[]

Redge, being part-demon, posesses supernatural powers. Specifically, he has the ability manipulate and summon hellfire. He wields the Cauterizer, a chainsaw-sword hybrid that is powered by these Hell flames, and along with using it as a close-ranged weapon, also uses it to channel fire into fireballs, fire pillars, or even massive waves of fire that obliterate enemies in their way.

Redge has used various moves and techniques throughout the KillGames series, as well as various other crossover games. These include:

Special Moves

  • Hell Gun: Redge launches a blast of fire from the tip of the Cauterizer. This acts as his main projectile throughout the series, though in the reboot takes the appearance of a wave of fire rather than a fireball.
  • Flame Slash: Redge flies forward a distance, slashing the first enemy he comes across. A gap closer move. Appears in the first two games, but would be replaced with Flame Spin in the reboot.
  • Flame Spin: Redge rushes forward, spinning his Cauterizer around him to deal multiple hits.
  • Flame Rush: Redge leaps forwards at the enemy slashing at them with his Cauterizer. Only appears in Fantendo Smash Bros. Battleground.
  • Flame Upper: Redge jumps upward, pointing the Cauterizer upward and performing an uppercut. A good anti-air as well as a recovery tool. Appears throughout a majority of the series.
  • Inferno Palm: A variant of Flame Upper, Redge instead performs a flaming uppercut with his fist rather than with the Cauterizer. Often appears in Fantendo Smash Bros. games.
  • Hell Burst: Redge creates a close-ranged blast of fire out in front of him that knocks back enemies and destroys projectiles. Replaced with Hell Breaker in the reboot.
  • Hell Breaker: Redge leaps upward before performing a downward flaming punch.
  • Cauterizing Cut: Redge performs a slash with the Cauterizer, that can be comboed, each attack further increasing the attack's damage. Only appears in Fantendo Smash Bros. Soul.
  • Sizzling Strike: Redge spins his blade and strikes the enemy, stunning them. Only appears in Fantendo Smash Bros. Soul.
  • Wildfire Wings: Redge creates flaming wings behind him and flies into the air, leaving an arc of sizzling sparks that deal damage overtime to the enemy. Only appears in Fantendo Smash Bros. Soul.
  • Pyretic Pound: Redge leaps and slams downward in a burst of fire, creating a wave of flames that stuns targets. Only appears in Fantendo Smash Bros. Soul.

Rage Attacks

  • Giga Inferno: Redge launches a massive blast of fire along the ground in front of him. Returns in every KillGames game he's appeared in.
  • Death Tornado: Redge winds up before spinning his Cauterizer at massive speed, pulling in anyone nearby. Would be replaced with Demon Turmoil in subsequent games.
  • Demon Turmoil: Redge rushes forward and grabs the foe. In KillGames 2 he blows the enemy up in an explosion, while in KillGames: Rechained he stabs the foe with the Cauterizer and shreds up their insides before blowing them up.
  • True Demon: A manifestation of Redge's pent-up rage against his mother Lylyth, True Demon form is a powerful super form that gives him incredible power and speed. In the first two games it was limited to only his Level 3 Rage Attack, while in Rechained in appears as his Bloodlust form, giving his flame attacks multiple hits and turning Flame Upper into a dashing attack.
  • Raging Rave: Redge's signature Instant Kill. In the first game he launches the foe into the air and slashes them multiple times before splitting them in half. In the second game it is upgraded to Raging Rave Ultra, having him stab the sword and kick it into overdrive to shred and burn up the enemy, before he grabs their head and blows it up. In Rechained, it is renamed to Raging Riot, having him slash at the foe before grabbing them by the neck and creating a massive explosion to vaporize them.

Trivia[]

  • Redge's design is inspired by Ragna the Bloodedge from Blazblue, Sol Badguy from Guilty Gear, and Travis Touchdown from No More Heroes, being created with the idea of being "intentionally edgy", leading to his entirely black skin.
  • Redge's name is a combination of "red" and "edge", as it felt like the most obviously edgy name you could give someone.
  • Redge was one of the first characters designed for the game, alongside Storm, Zmei and Misery. Of the designs, Redge is the oldest. He appeared in very early fighting game ideas before KillGames was concieved.
  • Redge was originally not a half-demon. Early drafts of the game described him as an "unknown being", but the creators wanted to give him a proper backstory and motive to join, leading to the story he has today as well as his connection to Lylyth.
  • Redge's weapon, "Cauterizer", is named after a medical technique in which a person burns the skin or flesh with a heated instrument to stop bleeding or prevent a wound from being infected. This name is meant to be an opposite of Lylyth's weapon, "Bloodletter", since cauterizing, despite how bad is seems, is actually helpful, while bloodletting is actually dangerous despite the technique being meant to help people.
  • Redge was originally planned to appear as a character in Super Smash Bros. Something Else. Eventually he, and the rest of the Lazy Studios characters, were scrapped after the creators felt they were taking slots from other characters.
