Super Mario Maker 3D is an upcoming game in the Super Mario series, made for the Nintendo Switch Pro. It is an enhanced, feature rich sequel to Super Mario Maker 2, offering over a dozen new features with it. It's biggest additions include the 3D Level Editor, 3D level building, the return of Super Worlds, & more. It's biggest addition, however, is the ability to create full-fledged, open world 3D levels, with it's new 3D Level Editor. It also has both online and local co-op multiplayer, with a new local vs mode. The game is planned to release worldwide in the Summer of 2022.

Gameplay[]

Level Editor[]

The level editor is quite simple, as it retains it's features from both of the previous games. The available tools and parts are contained within a wheel, like in Super Mario Maker 2. Pressing the L and R buttons will allow you to shift through each organized section by Blocks, Items, Power-Ups, Enemies, & Gizmos. The sound wheel acts the same way. The parts at your disposal change depending on which game style you're using. The 2 sidebars offer more features and customization for your level. Such as co-op building, changing the water and lava levels, extending or shortening the length of the level, and so on. Pressing the minus button will let you test your level wherever Mario is currently placed. Holding it however, will let you test the level from the very start. Pressing plus will open up the main menu, where you can switch between editors, go to CourseBot or WorldBot, go to the Course World, and so on.

2D Styles[]

The game has a total of 8 2D styles available to use (3 new styles), with all of them being available at the start. The 8 styles are as follows:

The original 5:

  1. Super Mario Bros.
  2. Super Mario Bros. 3
  3. Super Mario World
  4. New Super Mario Bros. U (Now NSMBU Deluxe)
  5. Super Mario 3D World (Can now be used in the 3D Editor)

New styles:

  1. Super Mario Bros. 2
  2. Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins
  3. New Super Mario Bros. DS

All themes listed, except for 3D World, can only be used in the 2D Editor.

3D Styles[]

3D styles are brand new to the Super Mario Maker series. There are a total of 5 3D styles, with one being available as DLC.

Available Styles:

  1. Super Mario 64 (If you hold both the L and R buttons together while using the SM64 style in the 3D Level Editor, the style will change to Super Mario 64 DS)
  2. Super Mario Sunshine
  3. Super Mario Galaxy
  4. Super Mario Odyssey

DLC:

  1. Super Mario 3D Land ($9.99)

Characters[]

Playable Chracters[]

There are 6 playable characters in the game (7 if you count Peachette), with 3 of them being brand new to the game. In online play, these characters are randomly selected, while in normal levels, a character of your choice can be selected before play, or be set by the level's creator.

Name Description How To Unlock
Mario-pose2ppp
Mario
Mario is the first out of the 4 main playable characters and is the most basic out of all of them. He retains his already well-known abilities and moves, and has pretty standard stats overall. His moves and abilities change depending on if the level style is 2D or 3D. Default
SuperMarioParty Luigi
Luigi
Luigi is the second of the 4 and has the highest jump out of all of them. Like Mario, he retains his well established abilities and movesets from previous games. However, his high jumping sadly does not appear in the 2D styles all except for Super Mario 3D World and New Super Mario Bros. U. His moves and abilities change depending on if the level style is 2D or 3D. Default
