New Super Mario PlUs is a 2.5D platform game, and a launch title for the Nintendo PlUs. It is the fifth installment in the New Super Mario Bros. series. It brings back many power-ups from classic games such as the Hammer Suit and the Cape Feather. It was released on September 15, 2020 (The Nintendo PlUs' launch date in Japan).

If one uses a PlUsControl Pad, they can stun enemies by tapping them and find secret areas and blocks. If the Nintendo MinUs is connected to the Nintendo PlUs, it can allow the player to play special mini-games with a friend.

Gameplay[]

The gameplay is similar to that of past New Super Mario Bros. games, but with new additions such as the ability to use amiibos. Unlike New Super Mario Bros. U and Wii, players now have the option to play as Princess Peach, Toad, Rosalina, and Wario. Yoshis are back but have special powers depending on their color, like a Purple Yoshi creating a barrier around it when it has swallowed 5 enemies.

Most of the elements and design found in the game make heavy reference to Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. In certain modes, 5 players who are holding regular controllers can play as the regular playable characters, while the player who is holding the PlUsControl Pad can play as Bowser, trying to stop the other players from getting to the goal. Power-ups, like the Penguin Suit, Propeller Mushroom, Mini Mushroom, and the Super Acorn return. The game also features a new power-up, the Crystal Flower, which allows the player to summon crystals to attack enemies from below.

Beta Elements[]

The Super Leaf was going to return, however since it was considered a weaker version of the Tanooki Suit, it was removed. Boo Mushroom, Frog Suit, and Blue Shell models were found in the code, it is possible that they went unused.

Worlds[]

Like New Super Mario Bros. U, New Super Mario PlUs has a seamless world map, however the areas are not named after foods and drinks.

Mario		Mario is the hero of the Mushroom Kingdom. Peach always counts on him to save the day.
Luigi		Luigi is Mario's younger, taller, and thinner brother. He can jump higher than his brother but has low traction and speed.
Peach		Princess Peach is the princess of the Mushroom Kingdom. She can use her dress to float in mid-air and reach farther places.
Toad		Toad is Princess Peach's loyal attendant. He is faster than any other character.
Rosalina		Rosalina is the keeper of the Comet Observatory. She can spin jump higher than any of the characters.
Wario		Wario is Mario's rival. When he ground pounds, the ground shakes, defeating nearby enemies. However, he is slow and has the lowest jump.

Cape Feather		Turns the player into Cape Mario/Luigi/Peach/Toad, allowing the player to fly and glide across the sky.
Tanooki Suit		Turns the player into Tanooki Mario/Luigi/Peach/Toad, allowing the player to attack enemies, fly, and turn into a statue.
Penguin Suit		Turns the player into Penguin Mario/Luigi/Peach/Toad, allowing the player to slide on ice and water, swim more efficiently in water, and throw iceballs.
Mega Mushroom		Turns the player into Mega Mario/Luigi/Peach/Toad, allowing the player to grow to a massive size and destroy everything in their path.
Mini Mushroom		Turns the player into Mini Mario/Luigi/Peach/Toad, allowing the player to shrink greatly in size, walk on water, reach smaller areas and perform Floaty Jumps.
Crystal Flower		Turns the player into Crystal Mario/Luigi/Peach/Toad, allowing the player to summon crystals to block enemies and attack enemies from below.
Flame Mushroom		Turns the player into Flame Mario/Luigi/Peach/Toad, allowing the player to be set on fire for a short period of time and shoot mega fireballs. In this form they cannot be hurt and can defeat any enemy that is not fire-related (except for anything that can shoot fire, like a Fire Piranha Plant) that they pass by.
