Chronicles of Juventia (Known in Japan as Juventia: The Promise of Tomorrowis a 2018 3D Action RPG Game released for the Nintendo Switch. It is developed by Germ Studios and published by Nintendo. It is the revival of the Chronicles series after Germ was bought out by Nintendo in 2016. Thus, it is considered to be the spiritual successor of Chronicles Of Lumisia. Unlike its predecessor, Juventia is set in a modern universe with a mix of classic and futuristic fantasy elements; the story follows students in the Academia, a combat academy that trains them to become mercenaries, vigilant warriors committed to keep the peace and order in their home continent.

Gameplay[]

Battle[]

The game's combat system introduces a real-time battle system as opposed to the turn-based system its predecessor had. The player can freely switch between party members during battle, using a variety of commands that range from basic attack combos and skills. Party members that the player is not controlling will be controlled by AI but can be issued commands by the player, these ordered commands queue up.

One feature in this system is the dodging system, putting an emphasis on evading and guarding enemy attacks. By dodging at the right moment, it can reward players with an opportunity to do a quick counterattack to an enemy.

In-Game Clock[]

The game has an in-game clock and calendar that sets the player's daily activities in the Academia. The system is dictated by a day-night cycle that goes from early morning, daytime, noon, afternoon, dusk, evening, and dawn. Doing an activity accelerate the game to the next stage of the cycle.

The in-game calendar follows the Gregorian calendar used in real life. A week is seven days starting from Sunday through Saturday with Monday to Friday being class days. With the game being set in a school, an academic term starts from the start of September and ends in May. In periods between plot-relevant events, the player is free to spend their time to either strengthen their characters, build relationships or finish side quests. The calendar feature of the game will often signal the player when the next plot-relevant event will occur.

Academy[]

The Academia is the primary setting of the game, with most of the playable characters being students, the player shall guide the characters in both academics and missions. A typical day in school last from daytime to dusk, which gives the player three opportunities to hone character skills and stats.

The means of leveling up characters are through attending classes. Each class yields two types of rewards: experience points for leveling up and stat points to increase character stats. The player must choose one character to play as in a class period, the character chosen will be the only one that will gain improvement. However, as the game progresses, the player will be able to choose two characters to attend the same class. This encourages players to strategize in training characters. There are three classes the player can take in the Academia:

Lecture[]

Lecture classes are classroom-held courses and strive to improve characters' stats. Every lecture session will focus on one particular stat, this will change each day. This is a more balanced way of improving characters as the player can arrange the seating plan of characters. Students sitting in front of the class gain more stat points as opposed to the characters sitting at the back. This can prove to be helpful in strategizing the characters' stat growth and lets the player decide on who to focus on.

Combat[]

In this class, players choose one character to play as they spar with their classmates and students from other sectors. This course allows the player to focus on one character's level. This class encourages players to try different characters available in the roster to level them up as the game's plot cannot have the player use all of the playable characters all the time.

Extracurriculars[]

Extracurricular classes yield additional boosts to a specific stat. Similar to the combat course, the player chooses one character to attend an extracurricular. There are different extracurricular classes which correspond to each stat. Once the player chooses a class their chosen character will attend, this character will get an increase in that specific stat.

Weekends[]

During weekends, the player can either explore areas outside the Academia or attend classes to improve their characters.

Stats[]

Stats are a vital feature in this game as stated in how they are handled in the previous section. They provide variety to the playable character roster and affect the tides of battle much more than how high a character's level is. The following stats present in the game are:

Attribute Description
Hit Points (HP) Is the amount of hit points a character has. If one's HP reaches zero, they faint and are unable to battle unless revived.
Special Points (SP) Is the amount of points a character can use to activate skills. Each skill needs a certain amount of SP. When a character runs out of SP, they cannot use their skills. SP can be regained by using items or using basic attacks on enemies.
Attack Determines how strong the physical damage (through basic attack or physical skill) a character can deal.
Magic Attack (M. Attack) Determines how strong the magical damage (through basic attack or physical skill) a character can deal.
Defense Denotes how a character can withstand both physical and magical damage from enemies.
Dexterity Is related to how fast a character can move around and also affects how a player can perfectly dodge an enemy attack.
Luck Affects the chances of a character landing a critical hit.

Skill Tree[]

The skill loadout system is retained in this game with a few changes. Characters can only equip up to five skills each loadout, but each character can have a maximum of 8 loadouts. Skills are not the only asset that can be changed, basic attack combos are an additional command that can be learned through leveling up and can also be switched in a character's loadout.

Traveling[]

Traveling is limited at the beginning of the game as players can only travel outside the school on weekends or after class hours. When the player is allowed to, they can explore the country of Ordeos and visit shops and other facilities not found at the school.

Extracurricular Activities[]

The mission system in the game is compressed to homework and extracurricular activities. These missions ranged from deliveries to monster slaying and grant experience points and rewards for the player. Characters who grant quests include teachers, students, and citizens of Ordeos.

AEGIS[]

Due to the progression of technology, heavyweight armor that were once used by warriors in battle were replaced by a lighter device that provides the user protection without the need of armor. This device is what the people call the AEGIS. The AEGIS is a small accessory granted to Mercenaries to equip in combat. This gives them an invisible armor that protects them in battle without the need of actual armor. They can be programmed with arsenal data, data collected from real armor, to further improve their uses. In the game, the player can equip AEGIS data to the characters to improve their stats. AEGIS data is purchased in shops and can be installed out of battle in the 'Equip" section in the pause menu.

Programming[]

The crafting system in the game. The player can create new AEGIS data that isn't sold through shops, they must acquire a recipe-like item called 'Blueprints'. Blueprints can be sold or found in various areas in the game, they can also be rewards from completing missions especially from certain characters. Creating new data requires items such as Nethyre-dropped items, existing AEGIS data, consumable items, and accessories, which follow the blueprint.

Accessories[]

A new addition to the equipment of a character, accessories grant bonuses to specific stats and even grant an artis when a certain character equips it (however it is only usable when the accessory is equipped). Each character has two accessory slots, some accessories can occupy one or two of the slots. They can be purchased at shops, be found in various areas of the game, or as rewards upon completing missions.

Shops[]

Shops can be found in an array of places in the game's world. There are different types of shops, namely: AEGIS, Accessory, and Item shops. The game's currency is crescents, these can be earned by completing missions, defeating enemies, and selling items to the shops. The player can also sell items they don't need to acquire crescents. The items sold will become much pricier as the player progresses in the story.

Difficulty[]

An option to select a difficulty for the entire game time can be selected by the player before starting a new save file. The available difficulty modes at the start of the game range from "Easy", "Standard", and "Hard". Each difficulty mode has a different experience point distribution rate, with "Easy" having the highest and "Hard" having the lowest, which determines the speed of leveling up. Other factors affected include the level caps of Nethyres and bosses in future chapters. An additional difficulty, "Brutal", is available after completing the game in either "Standard" or "Hard" mode, which severely ups the difficulty of the playthrough but grants the player the levels and stats the characters had on a save file that has completed the story (the player is free to choose which save file as long as they have completed the story).

Synopsis[]

Setting[]

The Einhed continent is composed of four main countries: Ordeos, Aurore, Lacuna, and Nagata. Each land having their own civilizations, beliefs, and style of government. The western country of Ordeos is an innovative nation that is built with advanced technology. The northern country of Aurore is ruled by a monarchy that rules over a caste system, a caste for the noble upper class and a caste for the lower class that serve the former. The eastern nation of Nagata is a composed of three large islands: Nanyang, Gangchon, and Tawamaki islands; each island having their own culture and internal structure. The southern empire of Lacuna ruled the deserts of the continent, taking over all the land within its presence.

Einhed's four countries lived in harmony until the Lacunan empire wanted to take over a portion of land in Ordeos. This caused a conflict between the two nations that eventually brought out an all out war. Aurore sided with Ordeos to provide manpower against the large numbers of Lacuna's army; while Nagata strayed away from the conflict but was also adamant in fighting Lacuna should they decide to colonize their islands. This event was historically named 'The Great War'. This period in Einhed caused a great rift between Lacuna and the other three nations. Lacuna was on the brink of winning the battle but their victory was stopped by a sudden influx of new technology that was invented by the people of Ordeos

The Great War lasted for half a century until a sudden appearance of horrifying monsters were wreaking havoc on Ordeos, Aurore, and Lacuna. These monsters were named Spekters, for they looked like distorted phantoms of the continent's wildlife. The intrusion of Spekters during the war was rampant and significantly affected the lives of Einhed's people. Eventually, the countries in conflict met to divert their energy into exterminating these monsters. This resulted into the formal agreement to stop the war and solve the common problem that they were all facing. And although the Great War was no more and the war-torn fields were now hunting ground for Spekters, the tension between Lacuna and the two countries was still there.

Although the countries gave their all in reducing the number of Spekters in the continent, they eventually came to accept that these monsters will never be fully gone; Spekters were treated like pests in one's house, killed on sight. With their military forces depleted from the war, Aurore put up a school for ordinary people to undergo special training in becoming a special type of soldier. This special class of soldiers were called Mercenaries, elite warriors dedicated to the mission of eradicating Spekters from Einhed for good. Ordeos and Lacuna soon followed suit to this idea and set up their own schools, while Nagata continued to close off its borders from the other countries in order to prevent Spekters from appearing in its islands.

Plot[]

Chronicles of Juventia's main story is divided into three parts which correspond t o t h e three academic years the main characters go through before graduating the Academia.

1st Year[]

The game starts with a storybook-telling of the prologue and transitions into the neon-lit Portano City, where Colin is walking home from a convenience store. He suddenly sees a woman get mugged by a couple of thugs, who immediately run away with the woman's purse when Colin confronts them. He goes on a wild goose chase after the criminals until they reach a dead end, where the pair suddenly throw out contraptions that summon Spekters and proceed to run away. Colin manages to get rid of the Spekters but is suddenly apprehended by the Portano Police Force; unbeknownst to him, Colin managed to damage a man's car while he was chasing the thugs. Colin is taken to the police station where he meets with his father, Wesley Heinrich, who angrily berates him for his recklessness. The man with the damaged car is introduced to be Percival Wycliffe, the dean of the Academia, Ordeos' mercenary school; he reveals that he was impressed by Colin's abilities and recognizes Wesley as a former student of his. Wycliffe offers Colin a spot to enroll at the Academia before the official enrollment period will start, in which Colin excitingly agrees to.

On his first day at the Academia, Colin bumps into his classmate, Chance Ansell, who tries to pick a fight with him; and Niko Reinherd, who calms both of them down and gives Colin a small tour around the school. The pair notice a blonde girl with a group of servants assisting her luggage, revealed to be Jenara Wisteria, a foreign student from Aurore. Niko's tour is cut short when the assembly bell rings and students gather in the Academia's Grand Hall to commemorate the beginning of the school year.

Colin and Niko learn that they are both in the same class sector, Sector 13; along with Chance and Jenara, who they see upon entering their classroom. Colin meets his other classmates: the child genius Theo Hawthorne; the charismatic Barrow Lykkos; the rowdy Jaz Verdent; clumsy Cadence Vivaldi; the shy Hua Meilin; and the mysterious Hana. They are also introduced to their homeroom teacher, Prof. Renee Vandbilt, who sends the class into the school's Amphitheater to begin their first assignment: a test to evaluate their teamwork by defeating virtual versions of Spekters. The class initially struggles but eventually learns to work as a team, thanks to Jenara and Colin's leadership. This leads the two to become co-captains of Sector 13 upon the completion of their test.

The first month of the term has Colin and Sector 13 navigate through the basics of the Academia and being a mercenary, which includes dealing with hectic classes and exams. Come October, the class is divided into teams to go on missions outside the Academia. Colin is teamed up with Jenara, Niko, and Barrow on his first mission to Stellphim, a resort town in Ordeos frequented by Aurorean vacationers, where there is a record of mercenary disappearances in the area. They are under the guidance of Prof. Valentine Lauvlin, a seasoned merc who has a drinking problem.

Upon arrival at Stellphim, Jenara is treated like royalty by her fellow Auroreans while her Ordeosian companions are treated like workers at the resort town. The group meets with the town's deputy merc, Viktor, who helps them investigate the disappearing mercenaries. Over the next few days, Valentine goes missing after a night of drunken stupor. The students turn their attention to finding their missing professor but stumbles upon the underground canal system of the town where they eventually find the missing mercenaries imprisoned. They find out that mercenaries in Stellphim are kidnapped and forced to fight to their deaths in an underground fight club for corrupt Aurorean elites to enjoy and bet large amounts of money on; they also discover that Viktor is one of the people behind this scheme.

Viktor easily incapacitates the students with a large dog-like Spekter that he could summon and imprisons them, confiscating their weapons in the process. Jenara learns that she is to be the next merc to fight in the deadly arena. However, they are soon reunited with Valentine and find the other imprisoned mercenaries. While waiting for the next match, the group hatches a plan with the other mercenaries to retrieve their weapons and escape the underground prison. During her match, Jenara manages to cause a ruckus among the audience while Colin and the others succeed in getting their weapons back. While the mercenaries escape, the group defeats Viktor and his pet Spekter, who is promptly arrested when the police arrive. This renders their mission complete and the group return to the Academia.

In December, the class go on another set of missions. Colin is teamed up with Cadence, Jaz, and Chance, who expresses his disdain in being grouped with Colin. Along with their strict professor, Prof. Katya Glazunov, they are tasked to go to the city of Esper upon the request of Ansell Corp's chairman and one of Academia's biggest donors: Charles Ansell, Chance's father. They are to be the security team for the famous teenage idol Destiny, who is set to perform for the opening of a museum built by Ansell Corp.. Destiny would be wearing the Raja Necklace, a historic artifact given by the Lacunan emperor to Ordeos as a sign of peace. Upon arrival at the Ansell Hotel (their place of accommodation), Chance is met with pleasantry by his brother, Cheyenne; but with hostility by Charles. At a welcome dinner for the group, Charles instructs them of their mission and warns them of a group of savvy thieves, named the Marauders, that have targeted Ansell Corps' in Esper through the past years, ordering them to eliminate them on sight as they have 'been a thorn on his life ever since'. Chance questions his request, with Colin backing him up; and this starts a heated argument with his father.

Soon they meet Destiny, who exhibits diva-like behavior and proves to be a trouble to take care of. Cadence soon lashes out at her for her behavior and this causes Destiny threatening to pull them from the mission, rendering a failing grade for the students. The group has no choice but to comply with Destiny's demands for the following days. One night while Destiny is rehearsing, the Marauders break into the museum and try to steal the necklace. When Colin and the others catch them, they throw a smoke bomb and escape; signaling a chase between the Academia students and the Marauders. Confronting them in the rooftop, the students manage to immobilize the group of thieves and take off their masks to reveal high school-aged teenagers.

In custody, they begin questioning the Marauders; their leader, Lukas, explains their motive. It is revealed that they were a group of residents in the area the museum was built on and Ansell Corp. displaced their families and left them with no housing and funds to support them; they plan on stealing Ansell Corp's displayed artifacts and sell them to support their families. For the next day, the group is deciding on whether or not to arrest the Marauders, Jaz and Chance butt heads on this decision. Their argument is stopped by the sudden arrival of Destiny, who reveals that she is actually a member of the Marauders and is plotting to switch the Raja Necklace for a replica during her performance. Destiny informs them that another group of thieves, who call themselves The Vendetta Faction, has threatened to terrorize the museum opening and that they have the ability to summon dangerous Spekters at will from ball-like contraptions. Destiny requests the students to help them in their heist to steal the necklace before the V Faction could, promising to give a good evaluation that could help their grades for the mission. Colin and his classmates are perplexed with this request but Colin leaves the final decision to Chance, who accepts Destiny's request.

On the day of the museum opening, the heist with the Marauders goes as planned. When Destiny has the real Raja Necklace in her possession, she is cornered by members of the Vendetta and is kidnapped. As this happens, Vendetta summons Spekters around the museum and causes havoc among the civilians attending the event. Colin and his classmates, along with the Marauders and Prof. Glazunov, go to eliminate the Spekters and find Destiny. Cadence and Prof. Glazunov manage to rescue Destiny from Vendetta members but the Raja Necklace is found to be in the villainous faction's clutches as they escape the museum. When the chaos dies down, Charles is furious at Sector 13 for ruining his event and finds out that they, along with Destiny, have been working with the Marauders, which angers him more. He proceeds to give the students a bad evaluation for their mission, giving them a failing grade. This shakes the group a bit on the way home.

While studying for the midterms in December, Colin mistakenly stumbles upon a hidden passageway in the school library. There, he discovers the Academia's tunnel network and find out that Spekters have actually been roaming under the school all this time. Upon finding an exit, he ends up in Prof. Glazunov's office, who reveals that she has knew all along about the tunnels and the Spekter presence in the school. She eventually gives him a special assignment to investigate the tunnels and the origins of the Spekters while dealing with their studies in the Academia, specifically instructing him to keep it a secret from Dean Wycliffe.

By March, another set of missions are given to Sector 13. Jenara is teamed with Hana, Meilin, and Theo with Prof. Lauvlin to assist with the preparations for the Cherry Blossom Festival in Ayakawa, a town in the capital where a community of Nagatan immigrants live in. The group stays in Meilin's family home and Hana is met with fear from the town's residents. This is in lieu of the sudden appearance of the Kami Syndicate, a crime organization feared in Nagata; who is causing trouble in the town.

Jenara soon finds out that Hana's full name is Takanashi Hanabi, the daughter of Takanashi Ritsuka, the crime lord leading the Kami. She confronts Hana about this and Hana confesses that she ran away from Nagata to escape the wrath of her father, who was about to marry her off to another criminal group to establish bonds. Hana reveals that she kept her identity a secret to protect herself and her classmates from the murderous Kami thugs. The Kami members in Ayakawa soon find out about Hana's presence in the town and proceed to kidnap her. Jenara and the others manage to catch up with the getaway car that had Hanabi and succeed in retrieving her. Hanabi threatens the Kami Syndicate to leave her alone, but this triggers the Kami to proceed with their plan of burning down Ayakawa on the day of the festival.

Hana faces prejudice from its residents as well as Meilin's family, who kicks the group out of their home, leaving them to sleep on the streets as no other establishment would want to house Hana. During the days of the festival, the group try to help the residents with the preparations but are shunned by them due to their involvement with Hana. Lauvlin regroups the students to divert their energy into instead planning for defending the town once the Kami enact their plan of destruction.

On the day of the festival, Kami members suddenly attack the town as planned and succeed in burning down some of its establishments. Jenara, Hana, and the others manage to stop the fire and defeat the Kami members. The town turns grateful towards Hana for her heroic deeds and proceeds to celebrate the group for the festival. The students enjoy the remainder of the festival and go home, passing their mission with flying colors.

In the final months of the academic year, the first year students are preparing for the final test: the qualifying exams, which are a round of tests that assess a student's capability to be a mercenary. Failure to succeed in this test would mean the student getting dismissed from the Academia, revoking their opportunity from becoming a mercenary as they cannot repeat their first year. This puts the first years on edge, including Sector 13. This especially shakes Colin and his group during the Esper City mission as their failing mark remarkably put a big plunge on their grades.

The qualifying exams are announced to be an interschool event held in the Academia with Fleur de Lis Academy, Aurore's mercenary school. The arrival of friends from her home country puts pressure on Jenara, especially when she learns that students of the lower caste will be dismissed immediately should they lose the combat rounds of the exams. Colin and some of his classmates struggle during the written rounds of the exams. During the combat rounds, Colin and Theo are the only ones in Sector 13 who loses their individual battles.

When the exam results are released, all of Sector 13 manage to pass except for Colin, who cannot see his name in either the list of both students who passed and the ones who failed. He is suddenly called into Dean Wycliffe's office, fearing this is the end of his journey to become a mercenary, Colin is surprised to hear that Wycliffe is giving him another chance; where he is put on probationary status. As the year ends, Colin is approached by Glazunov, who reminds him of his special assignment; promising to help lift him from probation should he continue their investigation.

2nd Year[]

Sector 13 returns to the Academia for another academic year. Colin is met with petty gossip from the student body about his stay despite his poor performance in the qualifying exams. Prof. Vandbilt announces to the class in homeroom that the lowest scorers in last year's finals (Colin, Theo, Cadence, and Jaz) were to be withheld from participating in second year missions. Instead, under Dean Wycliffe's pretense of extra credit classes, they are secretly deployed by Glazunov to investigate the school tunnels for the year.

Colin and his group investigate further into the school tunnels and find an abandoned lab with documents showing the creation process of Spekters, deducing that the monsters in the school were manmade. The name V. Etdantz frequently comes up on the discovered papers, which they find out is one of the scientists who studied under Dean Wycliffe. Their investigation stops when Valentine catches them entering the tunnels, he threatens to report them to Dean Wycliffe but is stopped by Glazunov, who instructs the students to stop with the tunnel investigations and join missions for the mean time while she fixes Valentine's involvement.

By October, Dean Wycliffe announces the arrival of exchange students from the Lacunan Institute, Lacuna's mercenary school, who will join in the Academia's classes for the rest of the year as an exercise of peace between the two countries. However, this announcement is met with both fear and anger from the student body as the cultural impact of the Great War is still rampant today. Sector 13 finds out that their new Lacunan classmate, Sigrid Thildrot, is the 9th Princess of the Lacunan Empire. Sigrid and Sector 13 have a hard time connecting, as she is constantly accompanied by Lacunan Imperial guards who cause annoyance and condescending behavior towards the sector.

On the first set of missions, Prof. Vandbilt enlists Jenara, Sigrid, and Jaz to accompany her to Marula, a Lacunan colony near the border between Ordeos and Lacuna. On the way there, the Jenara and Jaz frequently fight and argue with Sigrid, who is still being accompanied by her imperial guards. Upon arriving, they are met with a pleasant welcome by the inhabitants, who have already expected the arrival of the Lacunan princess. Marula is experiencing frequent Spekter attacks in the area and the team is tasked to help in reducing its Spekter population. The town is also met with the arrival of Sigrid's half-brother, Prince Emeka, the 4th Prince of the Lacunan Empire, who comes to visit his sister, further increasing the amount of security the princess has.

The mission is made more difficult by Sigrid's situation as she is prevented by the imperial guards to fight Spekters, leaving Jenara and Jaz to do all the work. Upon exploring the outside of Marula, they discover an abandoned lab in the middle of its desert land. One of the imperial guards enter to see if it's safe but does not return. Sigrid insists on finding the missing guard and the other two girls follow suit. Their entrance triggers the lab's functioning security alarm and locks them in. The three students are now forced to find another exit.

There, they find out that the lab was actually a place for producing Spekters, which was found to be the cause of the attacks in Marula. They also discover the scattered skeletal remains of the lab's scientists. Going deeper into the lab and finding more bodies and Spekters, Jaz accidentally releases a sleeping Spekter specimen from its container, the Spekter reveals to be sentient and can speak basic human language. The sentient Spekter proves to be very hostile as it proceeds to injure Sigrid and chase them down around the lab. With no choice but to fight it, the three manage to defeat the Spekter and as it dies, the body of a human girl is revealed to be under the Spekter's skin. The girls manage to find an exit nearby and are met with Prince Emeka, Prof. Vandbilt, and a whole squad of Lacunan troops who were searching for them.

A few days later, the townsfolk are relieved now that there are less Spekters disturbing them. Prince Emaka returns to Lacuna and abides with Sigrid's request of having no security accompanying her on the way back to the Academia. Jenara and Jaz make amends with Sigrid on the way home and convene in telling Dean Wycliffe about their discovery in the desert lab.

When he finds out about what Jenara's group discovered in the desert, Dean Wycliffe contacts the Ordeosian government to quarantine the borders for public safety. This causes a negative reaction from the Lacunan exchange students as the ban would mean they are prohibited from crossing the borders to come home during holidays; further worsening the divide between the Ordeosian and Lacunan students.

Due to her injury from the previous mission, Sigrid is barred from participating in missions while she heals. In the mean time she is tasked by Glazunov to assist in the now-resumed tunnel investigation project, Glazunov also has Valentine accompany Colin's group when they enter the school tunnels. The group eventually uncover that the tunnel is a multi-level underground complex, with the deeper levels ridden with more dangerous Spekters. They also find out that the name in the research papers is revealed to be Vera Etdantz and that she was working under Dean Wycliffe under a project involving creating Spekters.

In the second set of missions in December, the group of Chance, Niko, Meilin, and Colin (who Glazunov was forced to assign to hide his involvement with the tunnels from Wycliffe) are assigned to secretly escort a child and his mother to a boat heading for Nagata. The pair they are to escort is revealed to be Elara Reinherd, Niko's estranged mother, and his half-brother, Emil. Elara is actually a former member of the Vendetta Faction who is on the run from the group; Emil is a boy detected to control the power of aether, the strongest magical element known to man. Vendetta is after the pair, particularly Emil, as he is proven to be a potential asset for their plans.

The group is tasked to escort the pair along the Billwood Jungle, which houses a secluded port where a boat to Nagata is waiting for them. Niko and his mother get into frequent arguments as they make their way to the jungle. The group is also ambushed by Vendetta members but they successfully shoo them off. However one night while the group is asleep, Emil is kidnapped by the Vendetta faction. Niko is forced to set aside his resentment for Elara and tries to track Emil down. Eventually, he finds Emil with the Vendetta members on the jungle's port. The ship which was supposed to escort Elara and Emil to Nagata, is actually operated by the Vendetta and is set to travel to the faction's headquarters. The group infiltrate the ship and manages to locate Emil who is held captive by the faction's leader, who Colin recognizes to be Vera Etdantz from the tunnel documents.

Themes[]

As with the tradition of Chronicles series main titles, Chronicles of Juventia's story contemplates themes that reflect real life issues and values. The game's plot explores generational trauma and how it can affect one's morality and actions. Important characters to the plot all have accumulated trauma from a parental figure in their lives that they are forced to live with in the present.

Characters[]

Playable Characters[]

Sector XIII
Colin Heinrich

Colin is the son of Wesley Heinrich, an inventor and a graduate of the Academia, he was taught by his father to tinker and create machines. Through this he was able to craft various weaponry that he could use in combat. Trained by his father in combat, Colin is skilled in marksmanship and is very resourceful when it comes to battle, although having no experience in the actual battlefield. Colin craves for the taste of adventure and putting his skills to use in combat.

Colin's main arsenal is a pair of handguns. With them, he can fire quick shots at his targets and he can also bind them to form another firearm (e.g. a rifle or a shotgun). Colin is very agile in combat with his basic weaponry, he can fire multiple shots and deal long combos in addition with his mana-efficient artis. However, as he upgrades his weapon in battle, Colin can become sluggish and vulnerable in combat due to his lack of defense; he will also have to constantly reload his ammo, rendering him unable to use his weapons to his full advantage. Colin's weapon binding is in the form of an artis and he can create more weapons, increase his ammo amount, and gain more skills as he levels up.

Jenara Neve de Wisteria
